It’s just under 6 miles from the centre of El Portal, and about 7 miles from the landmark Merced Grove Ranger Station. The Yosemite Arch Rock Gate entrance is roughly 9 miles away.
Yosemite View Lodge is the pick of the hotels in El Portal. It’s a 5-star lodge on the Merced River, just over a mile from the centre of town. It’s about 2 miles from here to Yosemite Arch Rock Gate entrance, and if you want to go skiing in winter, drive a bit further to Badger Pass Ski Area.
