Excellent 9.6
Excellent 9.0
Pros: A marvellous experience. Absolutely charming staff made you feel so welcome. Great dinner and breakfast. The baths!!! . And the futon was sublime. Thank you so much
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Breakfast and dinner were excellent. The service impeccable. This onsen is spotless and clean. The owner was so wonderful, she came out to greet us during dinner and greeted us when we took a tour. We highly recommend this onsen, the service makes us feel at home. Best dinner and breakfast
Excellent 8.3
Pros: nice view (lake and fireworks), very friendly, esp. Mama-sang :)
Cons: as of August 23~25, need painting (outer wall), need re-tinting (bathhouse)
Excellent 10.0
Pros: I think I can safely say that this hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff was amazing, very helpful and kind. The food was divine and we got to experience Japanese cuisine through just a dinner and a breakfast. Kaiseki was served in a private tatami room. The Onsen was clean and spacious with a lot of options for bath necessities. The location of the hotel is really good as it is by the lake next to the water temple and a few meters distance from the public foot baths. They picked us with a minibus from the train station and they return us the same way which is really convenient as the station is a bit far from the hotel. We just headed to the tourist office at the station and they called the hotel to pick us up. We were welcomed with some tea (we had teapot, water etc in the room) and some sweets. The always helpful staff showed us around our room and arranged for our dinner and breakfast times. The staff was so friendly we felt like we were home! I would definitely recommend this hotel to everybody and I will probably return another day myself!
Cons: Nothing to mention here.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Private onsen, view, food wonderful
Good 7.5
Pros: Location by the lake
Cons: Food so so.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Nice staff and food. Impeccable.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Very nice Ryokan, the staff was so friendly and welcoming. We had a room with a privat onsen in it and it was really fantastic with the view onto the lake. The japanese dinner was also fantastic. We absolutely recommend this place.

Excellent 8.4
Excellent 9.2
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Out door bath room Dinner and breakfast are nice. Cofort bed
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Great Japanese garden, onsen, and hospitality. 1,400 year-old history of ryokan (registered the oldest ryokan on Guinness records at one point).
Cons: Futon was a bit hard and slight odor of smoke in the hallway. Food was so-so but it was catered to my pescatarian diet. I appreciate their attentiveness to my dietary restriction.
Good 7.9
Pros: The thing about Houshi is that one can probably write an entire dissertation on it given the time. We had booked 2 nights in what is indubitably the oldest inn in the world. We had some idea of what to expect, but the reality was indeed quite distant from it. I should note that in spite of welcoming innumerable foreign visitors, the front desk staff speak little to no English. While we did manage to work around it during our stay (and most visitors will), what bothered me was that no one replied back to the messages we sent them requesting a station pick-up. In their defense, I did ask them a day before arrival, so mea culpa. However, I called them before arrival, only for my calls to be disconnected the moment the lady at the other end realised I didn't speak Japanese. So far, not a good look . We made it to Awazu station and took a taxi to the Ryokan, were greeted by an affable staffer and the same lady who dropped my earlier calls. We were then given some warm matcha tea and sweets while they checked us in. Dinner that evening was served in a grand dining hall, and we were looking forward to a sumptuous keiseki dinner. However, the dinner on the first night felt wholly underwhelming given our experience at a ryokan near Yudanaka the night before. While the food wasn't bad, it wasn't anything to write home about. We retired to our room for a hot bath, but the bathroom itself had this intense musty smell indicating that it was probably aired out last a decade ago. In the meanwhile, the staff had made our beds and our tired selves took a quick shower and retired. Breakfast the next day brought some redemption, as it was elaborate and extremely delicious. We explored the sleepy village the Ryokan in located in, walked to the nearby Motorcar Museum of Japan, came back to indulge in the private hot-spring bath (3300 yen - worth it if you want to enjoy it with your partner), and then took a quick nap.
Cons: A musty bathroom, lack of communication when using the Booking.com app
Okay 4.2
Pros: Food
Cons: Room facilities, air conditioning had sound loudly at night; the safe have 4 layers but only one was worked. Floor was not flat in the room. No hot water.
Good 6.7
Pros: Staffs are extremely helpful if you can understand Japanese
Cons: The room is dated
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Impeccable services. The room we booked was a little bit cold, and they were happy to arrange to a differrnt room. Also, when we were worried about the next reservation in another Ryokan, they were happily checked with that Ryokan delivering our special request for us. Onsen (hot springs) was wonderful - the water quality, bath tubs and piblic bath areas were very clean and well maintained, outdoor bath was very nice. Nice and all necessary toiletry amenities. There was nice tradition art experience park nearby, where we had a fun and shopped for nice souvenirs gifts.
Cons: Some areas are old and therefore looks not clean, but considering how old this Ryokan is, it is very well maintained.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Natural hot spring Onsen, history being the second oldest hotel in the world
Cons: Limited ala carte menu for youngest 12 year old kid, carpeting looks a bit tired and old
Okay 5.8
Cons: Hotel really old, we booked 3 rooms; 2 for four and 1 For 2. 2persons room no bath room inside the room; 4 persons sometime have hot water sometime not. Air conditioner was really old, no remote adjust the temperature and the button like 20years only 1,2 and 3. The most important was really noise. Very disapointed.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: The onsen bath was very nice. Food was delicious, and the meal staff were all very friendly and meal service was excellent. The Ryokan's gardens were beautiful, a pity it was raining and we couldn't go out for a walk. Definitely need a car to get there. It was also a short drive to Natadera.
Cons: Was a little disappointed with the dinner as I thought there will be crab since we're in Fukui/Ishikawa area that is famous for crab. The meals were tasty though. The futon mattress was very thin, the adults in the family all woke up with sore backs. My family were a little concern about sleeping with the the oil heater as it was giving off a strong gas smell, but the staff assured us that it was safe. I still placed it as far from the sleeping area as possible. Luckily, the humidifier also gives out heat. Room's Toilet/Bath area was cold, we had to move the oil heater to warm up the toilet/bath area before my mum or the kids would bath.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Beautiful view to lake with sunrise and nice Onsen with panorama view of lake .
Cons: Hotel a Little bit old , but very nice .
Excellent 8.0
Pros: nice lake view from our room and from the onsen and a very nice staff
Cons: the room and the view and the onsen
Okay 5.0
Pros: Nice onsen, spacious rooms, clean
Cons: The exterior of the hotel looked very run down, not like the pictures. Hotel interior and rooms were better but still dated. Hotel did not have the capacity to serve all guests in the restaurant and they were full by 5pm so we had to drive off property to eat dinner after a long day. Immediate neighborhood around the hotel was not inviting.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Very nice lake view from the room. Electric Bicycle available for rental to enjoy a pleasant ride around the lake.
Cons: Outside onsen is quite small and the view to the lake is obstructed.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Perfect
Cons: None
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Good lake view from both room and onsen facility Convenient with the shuttle bus to train station
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Real Japan
Excellent 10.0
Pros: So we had one of the large rooms with its own bath and it was a treat, huge room, overlooking the lake with an incredible night sky view. I highly recommend getting the dinner included in your stay, its served at the Hotel's restaurant and its this incredible 7 course Japanese cuisine tour de force, with some incredible dishes (everything from Kobe beef to sashimi to traditional pickles and soups and finally a desert). Its expensive but really its worth it for the premium experience you get.

Pros: Staff is friendly and the whole environment is comfortable
Good 7.5
Pros: Close to the airport, comfortable rooms and good internet. The vending meachines provided everything needed for a night in the room.
Cons: Reception booked a cab to the airport, but failed to inform me that it would not open at 06:30 only, Waited out in the cold for half an hour for the lights to go on!!!
Excellent 8.8
Pros: The room is large and the beds are great. Staff is very helpful. The free coffee from the Jura machine is excellent. The breakfast was good with a large variety of products.
Cons: Windows were locked. The possibility to open a window would be nice. The restaurant was okay, but nothing special. Not everything that was offered on the menu was available.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Overall is great! Font desk staff are kind and helpfull

Pros: all
Cons: location
Excellent 9.2
Pros: Huge room with an amazing view over the lake! Friendly and efficient staff. Decent breakfast.
Cons: The room price was considerably inflated due to Golden Week (as they were everywhere).
Good 7.1
Pros: The hotel is situated away from town. We like the view of the lake and mountain from our room. Good facilities.
Cons: The staff who checked us in was not very friendly. Not explaining the facility, gave us the key and told us the breakfast time only. In fact, they have onsen, swimming pool... etc in the hotel.

Okay 5.2
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The location is close to the station and bus stop (which will connect you directly to the airport) and some convenient store. It is very convenient for travellers who have a tight schedule to catch all the transportation mode (and some snack on the go). The room also very clean, and the bed is comfortable. For a solo traveler like me, it is more than enough.
Cons: The internet connection is not that strong. If you travel while you bring your work or homework, you may expect some internet disconnection. The internet is sure still work well, just don't expect it is a speed you can get in kanto area or tokyo.
Good 7.0
Pros: The bed is okay and the bathroom
Cons: I aircon is not that cold
Okay 4.0
Cons: Carpet ripped, not very clean, had to wear slippers or wasn't comfortable.

Excellent 9.0
Pros: Spa
Cons: Room size
Good 7.0
Pros: ONSEN ON FORTH FLOOR WAS VERY NICE NATURAL HOT SPA IS SO GOOD OUTSIDE BATH CAN FEEL FREEDOM SUPER MARKET IS FIVE MIN BY WALK I CAN GET VERY FRESH SASHIMI AND SUSHI IN DISCOUNT PRICE AT 18:30
Cons: VERY SMALL ROOM BOOKS OF FAKE HISTORY LOL
Mediocre 3.8
Pros: The onsen was quite good
Cons: It took a very long time to check in. The staff seemed to have problems first with my residency card (I didn’t bring my passport as I live in Japan) and then my credit card. The room was very cramped, for example the desk was piled high with things but none of it really fit. The tv was too big for the table and looked like it might fall off, the hairdryer was in a drawer too narrow for it so the drawer wouldn’t close, there was no free space to put anything so I had spend a good five minutes clearing thing and putting some of it on the floor so I could even start to make a hot drink. I appreciate all the amenities but the room wasn’t big enough. Which is odd considering there were at least three people talking loudly and up late next door - I’m guessing there’s wasn’t the same size. The pillow was terrible and the bed hard. I didn’t sleep well. Note there are also two APA hotels very close, and given the amount of maps there are available I’m guessing a lot of people, like us, go to the wrong one first.
Good 7.5
Pros: The hotel met my expectations. The room and bed were very small but that is very typical for most of the hotels I’ve visited in Japan. Room was quiet and clean although quite worn. Staff was super helpful and friendly.
Cons: The bed was a bit broken: the bedframe was broken in the middle and I had to put some books under the bed to make it more confortable.
Okay 5.8
Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Space
Good 6.7
Pros: Basically this hotel has a good place near station, a clean and warm facility.
Cons: Room is too small. The Wall is so thin that you can even hear clearly about what the neighbor guests are taking-_-
Okay 5.4
Pros: Breakfast and service was great.
Cons: Room was small. Access to hotel restaurant was not accessible to a handicapped personl
Good 6.3
Pros: Location, spa
Cons: Litle room
