The rooms all had alot of character and loved all the artwork around the building. Loved the setup of the building. The bars and restaurant I visited in where very nice and interesting menus.
Had an issue with one of the in hall bathroom doors not liking my door key so it would take a few tries to get into the bathroom. Also It didnt seem to be clear to people they needed to lock the door so people couldnt come behind them.
The soaking pool was wonderful. Staff were attentive and engaging. The hotel is cute and has fascinating decor. Room was impeccably clean. Bathrooms were clean. The elevator is tiny and breaks alot when going up and down which I loved. Beautiful historical building with a great vibe.
a quaint and charming love letter to rock and roll in the form of a hotel with original personalized artwork and more beer and whiskey then you could ever possibly hope to shake a stick at. Good stuff
the elevator is kinda creaky
The restaurant and bar attached to the property was probably the only part that stops me from rating the hotel lower than I did. The food at Zeus Cafe was absurdly delicious, and I couldn't stop eating there. The bar had live music, the staff was friendly and knowledgeable, and the location is within walking distance of almost anything you want to do in Portland.
Most rooms in the hotel have bathrooms separated from the room you're staying in. The robes they provide feel rough and scratchy. My room was sparse, and the musical theme of the room led to art that was, to put it lightly, off putting. Although I'm admittedly spoiled by my mattress at home, the one I slept on at this hotel was hard and unyielding.I get that McMenamin's properties are supposed to have a historic and ascetic design, but the concept is less appealing in practice than it is on paper.
McMenamins Crystal hotel is in an awesome location! It's very close to lots of walkable shops and places to eat. My partner and I were wary that it would not be clean because we saw so many collected oddities and antiques in the pictures, and the bathrooms are communal BUT IT WAS SO CLEAN. They must clean or check the bathrooms every hour because I would throw something in the trash and the next time I went into the bathroom the trash was emptied. The staff is so lovely, the restaurant has a great breakfast, and we had a really great time! Bonus, they have a rotating residency program for musicians that play at Al's Den downstairs, so they often have live music to listen to at night! Even on the slower nights of the week.
Portland is a magical place in its entirety, but for a classic experience of this forward-thinking city, the Crystal Hotel and Ballroom is the place to stay. It is located right at the edge of Pearl District which doesn’t get a person much closer to the music scene in the hip town of Portland, Oregon.
The Crystal Hotel and Ballroom is 100 years old and is a flatiron classic structure. There are 51 guestrooms to choose from and each room is decorated with inspiration by a song or performance at its neighbor, the Crystal Ballroom.
The Zeus Café, located on the 1st-floor, offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner for guests. Of course, Portland is all about good food and fresh ingredients, therefore the food here features Northwest ingredients. Guests can enjoy the food before hitting the town and even stop by for a late-night snack.
The hotel is just steps away from McMenamins Crystal Ballroom, which is a famous live music venue. For guests who really are itching for a music-filled vacation, Everyday Music is just across the street and has a plethora of music-related retail available for purchase.
To visit Portland and not go into Powell’s City of Books would be like visiting Rome and not seeing the Coliseum. Powell’s is a wonderland of books, used and new, and fun gifts. The place has several floors and color-coded topic zones. After a musical and funky day in Portland, there is no better place for an epic sushi experience than Bamboo Sushi, an eco-friendly sushi restaurant with some of the best fish one can eat.
The funky town of Portland is a beloved Oregonian city. The people, city, and nearby nature are welcoming and mysterious at the same time. What better way to stay in such a town than to be located right in the middle of it all?
