Portland is a magical place in its entirety, but for a classic experience of this forward-thinking city, the Crystal Hotel and Ballroom is the place to stay. It is located right at the edge of Pearl District which doesn’t get a person much closer to the music scene in the hip town of Portland, Oregon.
The Crystal Hotel and Ballroom is 100 years old and is a flatiron classic structure. There are 51 guestrooms to choose from and each room is decorated with inspiration by a song or performance at its neighbor, the Crystal Ballroom.
The Zeus Café, located on the 1st-floor, offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner for guests. Of course, Portland is all about good food and fresh ingredients, therefore the food here features Northwest ingredients. Guests can enjoy the food before hitting the town and even stop by for a late-night snack.

Cons (-) Since the Crystal is a renovated but charming old building with charming old windows, street noise can be intrusive (trash day can be brutal). Now that I know what the earplugs in the nightstands are for, my stays are much more pleasant.
Cons (-) Bathroom was not in our private room, elevator was ancient, lighting was too dark, street was too noisy.
