Good geographic situation
It was so cold, we must add heater in the room but it was to cold in the kitchen
The peace and quiet and only the sound of the waves.
TV reception poor as Ariel broken and the staff seemed to know there was a problem but didn’t think it was important enough to fix prior to our check in
Kitchen was lovely with great sea views. Very clean and helped it was quiet when we were there so spacious
Room heater was broken, WiFi didn’t work in rooms.

This place is unique. Lovely staff, great service, location, and facilities. I stayed here a thousand times if I could.
The Punakaiki Beach Hostel boasts a beachfront location along the Wild West Coast of New Zealand. This area has consistently received high praise from the world’s many travel experts, including Lonely Planet, ensuring that guests of the hostel get the best experience possible. And though it is described as a hostel, the hosts aim to provide more than a clean spot to catch some sleep. Sitting on the shore of the Tasman Sea and overlooking Paparoa National Park, it is less than half of a mile from the Pororari River and around 45 miles from Hokitika Airport, making it ideal for surfers and travelers of all kinds. It is part of the Punakaiki Beach complex, and visitors can find plenty of spots to lounge in the sun, hit the waves, swim a bit, and enjoy an array of food and beverages. The hostel has a large furnished area in the gardens above the beach, meaning you can also spend time lounging and relaxing here. Offerings vary, and the hostel is able to provide accommodations for up to 44 guests between the two houses on the grounds. All of the accommodations include free Wi-Fi, use of the fully-equipped kitchen, free beverages, lounging areas, and shared outdoor spaces. The rooms and bed types include doubles, dorms, shared rooms and even a private cottage for two. All feature beds already made for the guest and full bathroom facilities. The cottage even has a beverage system and entertainment system. There is also the “House Truck” for two! If heading to the western coastal area of New Zealand, the Punakaiki Beach Hostel offers an unforgettable spot for a memorable stay.
