Very comfortable (almost luxury), but discreet.
LOCATION FOR THE TOWN OF SANTILLADA IS PERFECT, SERVICE WAS GREAT, TERRACE LOVELY.. BALCONY IN OUR ROOM A REAL BONUS POINT
.. BUT THERE IS ALMOST NOTHING TO DO HERE OTHER THAN SHOP FOR SOUVENIRS AND LOOK AT THE OLD TOWN.. WHICH IS VERY PRETTY BUT NO MORE THAN AN HOUR OF INTEREST. THE ALTIMIRA CAVES WERE OUR DESTINATION BUT THEN REALISED THEY ARE A MUSUEM AND PHOTOGRAPHS AND NO ACCESS TO THE CAVES. NOT THE PARADORS FAULT BUT MAKES THIS A LESS USEFUL STOP OFF POINT
Great and friendly staff
Price of the breakfast was to high
Santillana del Mar is one of our favourite places in the world. We were privileged to stay in Parador Gil Blas’s which is five star luxury in a four star coat. It is just sheer bliss.
The staff were a little bit on the amateurish side. Not their fault, they are all lovely people. Better staff training would help.
We were very late booking this Paradores and only did so because Brittany Ferries re-scheduled our ferry crossing from Plymouth to Santander a week before we were due to sail. This re-scheduling meant we would arrive in Spain too late to drive to the Paradores we had previously booked (in Plasencia) for our first evening. We had stayed here before and knew the hotel and town well. We were given in fabulous, large room off the main landing with two balconies overlooking the main square. A wonderful bonus.
Nothing, although if you haven't been here before a street map of the small, historic town would be useful to have with you as finding the Paradores through the small, cobbled streets (several pedestrianised and many that aren't are one way only) would save a great deal of time trying to find the hotel.
With a stay at Parador De Santillana De Gil Blas in Santillana del Mar, you'll be within a 5-minute walk of Regina Coeli Diocesan Museum and Museum of the Inquisition. Featured amenities include express check-in, dry cleaning/laundry services, and a 24-hour front desk. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
