But Markham is a great alternative for a slightly slower pace of life just outside the city. I have a lot of friends who have chosen to live and work in Markham rather than Toronto for a more comfortable quality of life, and I’ve found the city has its own pulse that makes it well worth visiting. The region is incredibly multicultural, much like Toronto, with excellent global cuisine. Markham may not have the same number of boutique or luxury hotels as you’d find in Toronto, but there are still plenty of options. Here’s my pick of the best hotels in Markham for families, solo travellers, road-trippers, and more.

When I can, I always book a room at a Delta when I’m travelling for business. And when it comes to the Delta Hotels by Marriott Toronto Markham, that’s a wise choice. This hotel offers great value for money and feels more like a luxury property than your average business hotel.

It's one of the best hotels in Markham for business and leisure thanks to its abundance of amenities. I love the gorgeous streamlined fitness center with cardio equipment and free weights, the indoor swimming pool, and the fireplace in the lobby lounge.

It’s also worth noting that this hotel is conveniently close to the highway and offers free parking for all guest. A major bonus if you’re road-tripping through Ontario and don’t want to have to worry about where to park your car.

The Residence Inn by Marriott Toronto Markham is extremely welcoming and cosy, with lovely concierge staff. I particularly like this hotel for its well-maintained in-suite kitchenettes, which come with a fridge, dishwasher, and microwave for added convenience.

Despite being a residence-style hotel, the Residence Inn by Marriott Toronto Markham also features an on-site spa, a small fitness center, and an indoor pool. But my favourite part is the hotel’s tennis and basketball courts.

I also appreciate that breakfast is included at all rate levels here, and the buffet is well worth checking out. It features a variety of hot and cold menu items, from eggs and bacon to yogurt and fresh fruit.

The Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Toronto Markham is one of the best hotels in Markham for road-trippers. It’s conveniently located near highways 407, 7 and 404, and it’s only about a 10-minute drive to the center of town. There are just 99 guestrooms to choose from, which gives this hotel a much more intimate feel than some of the bigger establishments in Markham and the Greater Toronto Area.

Road-trippers will also appreciate the electric vehicle charging on-site and free parking. There’s also an indoor saltwater pool and a small fitness center.

I also like the fact the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Toronto Markham features interconnecting rooms – great for families – and pets are permitted for an additional fee.

Holiday Inn is another one of those brands that flies under the radar in terms of the value-to-cost ratio. I’ve stayed in Holiday Inn properties all over the world and they’ve been some of my most comfortable stays.

This particular Holiday Inn is a comfy, reasonably-priced place to rest your head. It's decked out in a sleek and modern decor scheme that feels airy and bright, from the lobby to the guestrooms and suites. You’ll also find full-sized soaker tubs in many of the rooms and an indoor pool for those who want to do laps or go for a leisurely dip.

I particularly liked the hotel’s outdoor patio area, as well as the first-class breakfast buffet on offer. Make sure to try the fresh pancakes and the turkey sausages.

The Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre & Spa is one of the best hotels in Markham for business travellers, but it’s also a great spot for those visiting for leisure. The hotel is located just outside of the downtown core, which makes it easy to explore the city on foot.

I love the huge floor-to-ceiling window in the lobby, which gives the hotel a distinctly glamorous feel from the moment you check-in. There’s also a beautiful indoor pool that opens onto the outdoor garden area.

My favourite spot has to be the sultry-chic lobby bar, which is the perfect place to grab a glass of wine or a cup of tea after a long day of meetings or exploring the city. I also like that this property has an on-site spa with treatments ranging from facials to massages.

This hotel is set right in the center of town, which makes getting around Downtown Markham a breeze. The Toronto Marriott Markham also takes its cue from luxury-leaning hotels in the big city with a sleek and modern design. I love the floor-to-ceiling windows in each guestroom and suite, which provide plenty of natural light in the morning and a great view of the Markham city lights come nightfall.

The property also features an on-site restaurant loved by locals and visitors alike. Ruth's Chris Steak House offers everything you’d expect from a classic steakhouse, with upmarket additions like decadent lobster mac and cheese and seared ahi tuna.

It’s also well worth checking out the sleek lobby bar here. The mood lighting and the sophisticated bar display make this spot a serious contender for the best hotel bar in Markham.

There’s an indoor saltwater pool, a fitness center, and an on-site laundry room that guests can use at their own convenience. It’s also worth noting that this property offers free parking for all guests, as well as EV charging stations.

The property is incredibly cosy thanks to amenities like in-room soaker tubs, electric fireplaces, and the full-sized kitchens and dining tables that come in many of the guestrooms and suites.

This hotel is also brilliant for active kids. There’s plenty of outdoor space for them to explore and there’s even a putting green on-site for little ones looking for a round of mini putt.

I love the fact this hotel offers a free breakfast buffet as well as semi-regular evening socials where guests can take advantage of free food and drinks while mingling with fellow travellers.
