Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hafaldan HI hostel old hospital building in Seydisfjordur, you'll be a 5-minute walk from Seydisfjordur Harbour and 8 minutes by foot from Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hostel is located in the town's old hospital and has a lot of flair. Everything was very clean and there is even a guest sauna in the basement. The staff was very friendly and told us a lot about the area.
Cons: The kitchen can get a bit too crowded at dinner and breakfast time
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Sauna and kitchen were great! Good facilities and rooms.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Usually we do not stay at hostels because some persons of our group do not like it. this time we tried it because they also offer rooms with private bath. We were really happy. I liked the atmosphere of the old hospital. Every room is different and has it’s own character. The joined kitchen is well maintained and clean. You can find everything you need. They even have a new sauna for their guests - a nice add on - especially with Icelandic weather ;) the hostel is located right in the centre, 2 min walking distance to the supermarket, a great fish restaurant and also the church.
Cons: I can understand that everybody needs to take the shoes off. But I really disliked people running around without socks ... that’s unhygienic and not necessary. Price for rooms is quite high.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great room size (double with bathroom), access to laundry, good kitchen. Fantastic location easy walk to central town. Shoes off inside property
7.1 Good
Pros: The location was great and the staff member was wonderful.
Cons: This hostel was the only one on our trip that did not service breakfast. For the price point I was truly disappointed.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The town is gorgeous and very walkable. The location of this hotel is perfect. We did not use the kitchen although it looked very clean and well organized. The restaurants nearby were fantastic. The hotel was spotless and very quiet. We did not use the sauna but the showers were huge and there seemed to be plenty of them for the number of guests. We would definitely stay here again.
7.1 Good
Pros: The staff was helpful and friendly. The room had a en-suite bathroom and the beds were comfortable.
Cons: You hear people walking by early in the morning and the communal dining room was too crowded so we had to go out for dinner.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Friendly reception and good clothes-washing facilities available. The kitchen seemed well equipped but we did not use it.
Cons: We booked a room with on-suite bathroom, paying the higher rate. Unfortunately, this comes with the "benefit" of hearing all of the other guest on the floor commuting to and from the toilets as well as all the flushing as the shared facilities are located right next to room number 20 and the walls have absolutely no sound proofing quality whatsoever. The lights above the beds were battery driven - not a major issue, despite the non-sustainable aspect - but rather a pitty that all the batteries were flat! The light above the toilet in our bathroom was not working so we checked the bulb, which lead to us discovering that there was clearly a rather disturbing wobbly electrical contact in the cabling. As soon as we touched the light it would flicker on and off. Beyond the lighting, the bathroom was clean but had a pervasive smell of mould and the small radiator's fixtures were broken so it was hanging on to the wall by luck more than anything else. This could potentially be dangerous if someone is careless and puts any kind of weight or pressure on it, as it may lead to a hot water pipe rupturing and scalding.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Seydisfjodur is very charming and I’m glad I chose to stay here over Egilstadir. Right next to an awesome swimming pool and the town bar. The rooms are very pretty
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The building is just beautiful. Old hospital, very nicely decorated, very comfortable. Nice little sauna. All clean. Well equipped kitchen.
Cons: Quite noisy. You need earplugs for a proper sleep as you can hear every step of the other guests.
Hótel Aldan - Seydisfjordur - Building

9.0 Excellent (300 reviews)
C$ 199+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hótel Aldan in Seydisfjordur, you'll be a 1-minute walk from Seydisfjordur Harbour and 7 minutes by foot from Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.5 Good
Cons: We were very happy with our ccomodation.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It is an interesting Hotel. We stayed in the Bankinn part. Room was neat. could have had another pillow. Off the Ring Road through beautiful scenery. Breakfast was good and had porridge and some fruit.
Cons: The entrance to the building is a set of stairs made of rough concrete - I believe it is a historic building so perhaps these can't be changed. It was difficult getting my suitcase up the stairs - had to drag it up over the rough concrete which wasn't all that great for the suitcase - but fortunately we were on the ground floor. This building has an upstairs also.
7.7 Good
Pros: Beautiful, picturesque little town at the head of a fjord, and without the Hotel Aldan, it would be a lesser place. They've been creative in taking old buildings and converting them into lodging and restaurant (which was perhaps the best feature with some excellent dining).
Cons: The place needs updating, seems rather worn. The wireless internet hardly worked most of the time. When the Costa Fortuna cruise ship docked and disgorged its thousands, it looked like a scene from The Walking Dead: zombie-like people aimlessly standing and strolling outside the hotel with the goal of connecting to its unrestricted wifi. For those of us who were paying guests, that degraded our access.
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff , location and b-fast ok
Cons: No body help us with the suitcase and we were in the second floor without elevator
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff friendly, very good location.
Cons: Other guests moving around the building was very audible in our room as the floors are wooden and the doors bang loudly
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel building we stayed in, Bankinn, was very cute because it was old yet modernized.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hotel with character, second bed was in a built in nook, kids loved it! Loved the city.
7.9 Good
Pros: If you're looking for a place to stay in this town, there are not many options, but I suspect this is one of the best ones. The hotel is clean and convenient.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, amenities, meals, and service were excellent.
Cons: I wish we could have stayed longer.
7.5 Good
Pros: We were placed into the old bank building, the room we got had quite a big bathroom which had nice toiletries provided. The bedding was nice and warm. The breakfast buffet (paid extra) was expansive and had lots of options.
Cons: We ended up in a room with 2 twin beds, my partner did not sleep well due to the size of his bed. We could hear a lot of noise from the upstairs rooms. Some of the furnishings (stool chairs) were more run-down than charmingly worn.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Loved the location in Seydisfjordur, Iceland. Lively atmosphere, calm and peaceful surroundings.
Hotel Hallormsstadur - Egilsstaðir - Building
3
9.0 Excellent (232 reviews)
C$ 229+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Hotel Hallormsstadur in Egilsstadir, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hengifoss and Snaefellsstofa Visitor Center. Featured amenities include luggage storage and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Oh my gosh, I would happily stay here again. Seasonal property located in a National Forest overlooking a gorgeous lake. Very close to Hengifoss. Great drive to Krahaunaker Dam. Saw vague, but highly active Aurora during our stay. Staff was exceptional. Incredible breakfast selection, best I’ve found in Iceland yet! Four wheelers for those interested, hot tub, walking paths. Also saw a small, brown fox that ran along the road in front of the car for quite some time. Resident and owner friendly cat.
Cons: Nothing, it was a fantastic place.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Felt like a real hotel, spectacular view right across the lake, surrounded by trees, unfortunately the weather was not good. Buffet dinner and breakfast were amazing, exotic offers and many other choices.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to a room with a balcony where we enjoyed a lovely sunset. The view is very nice. The breakfast was great. The hotel grounds are very nice. There is hiking and beautiful waterfalls nearby.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location, great variety on breakfast. It's not the newest property, but it does look better inside than the outside!
Cons: Rooms are a bit too hot ( but opening the window and controlling the heating is possible). Rooms could be double checked (lamp didn't work in the bathroom).
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff was nice. The spa was fine. The area around was very pretty. The put new towels in everyday, but they didn't have to. waste of water and soap!!!
Cons: For that price I would expect more facilities, like minibar, towel dryer and a double bed NOT just 2 bed put together and slip away from each other during the night. I would also expect the bed sheds to be cleaned/shifted more often, we were there for 3 days only shifted once. The restaurant was also way to expensive, 7000 kr. for a buffet that would cost 3000-4000 kr in Reykjavik or Höfn!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything was exellent
6.7 Good
Pros: Nice rooms, large enough Beds were comfy Nice breakfast
Cons: Rooms we were given were close to reception and hence too noisy (especially hotel staff loudly chatting in the morning) Swimming pool was closed, no notice was given (though we were kindly offered to access Spa facilities)
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, very comfortable rooms and beds, lovely campus, delicious and extensive breakfast.
Cons: Send directions or a better address for GPS with the confirmation email - Google Maps was off.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Hiking trails nearby
Cons: There were about ten people from Japan sitting in front of our room with the emergency door open , and clambering up and down the emergency exit since they wanted to see the northern lights. We didn’t complain at the time, but the hotel should find a way to keep its guests better behaved and not allow bothering others, especially since they were clambering up and down the emergency stairs, well after midnight, with total disregard for the emergency exit sign. A small thing, the receptionist was off putting both by not knowing much about the surrounding town and in saying we were fine in checking out before check out time. We don’t come to a hotel in order to be judged by the receptionist.
7.1 Good
Pros: Great restaurant for dinner and excellent breakfast options! Friendly staff and clean room.
Cons: Horrible pillows!! And we tried to call reception numerous times but the phone was never answered.
5.0 Okay
Pros: a lot of outdoor activities

Pros: Rooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast had good variety and was served in a room with a nice view of the lake.
7.0 Good
Pros: Only if somebody has been travelling along Iceland can appreciate the forest, where this hotel and the cottages are, as there are no trees in Iceland at all!!!! I recommand the wooden cottages where we stayed.
5.3 Okay
Pros: Restaurant and bar were great. Staff were extremely helpful.
Cons: Our room was in a strange separate building, with combined male/female shared facilities.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The staff was very nice, especially at the restaurant.
Cons: The toilet in our cottage had not been properly cleaned before our arrival. There was no TV nor fridge in the room.

Pros: Sirry at the front desk is an asset to the hotel. She is such a lovely human being and so helpful. Goes out of the way to make one happy. Breakfast was good. Location of the hotel is good. Rooms were adequate and very clean.
Cons: The smell of sulphur in the hot water was quite a put off.
5.4 Okay
Pros: Close to restraunts. Proper hotel, quite rare outside of Rekjevik.
Cons: Tour groups use it, so noisy at breakfast, ran out of Skyer !
2.0 Mediocre

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable bed . Helpful staff. Buffet breakfast was good with plenty of variety.
7.5 Good
Pros: This property felt relatively updated and exactly what we needed for a 1 night stay. I enjoyed the overall atmosphere and location, close to gas stations with convient stores and cute shops and cafe’s.
Cons: N/A
7.9 Good
Pros: First was the front desk they where very nice and helpful. Where fast checking me inn, the room had one off the best beds I ever slept in. And looking out the window was a very nice surprise mountains that surround the hotel where beautiful. My only regret was that I didn’t stay longer and I will 100% come back.
Cons: It was to short off a stay that’s what I didn’t like.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean standard hotel. Friendly staff.
Cons: Expensive and breakfast was extra.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Nice and clean room with a large bathroom (also very clean). Breakfast was good. Good location near to restaurants and cafes, supermarket and gas station. Free parking
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I enjoyed the location and the property owner was very accommodating. I would highly recommend this property. We will be back again.
Lyngás Guesthouse - Egilsstaðir - Bedroom

8.6 Excellent (1,403 reviews)

A stay at Lyngás Guesthouse places you in the heart of Egilsstadir, within a 5-minute drive of East Iceland Heritage Museum and Fardaga Waterfall. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. A roundtrip airport shuttle is complimentary (available 24 hours).
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Modern and spacious with excellent, clean facilities. The kitchen had everything you would need and a lovely sitting area.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The city didn’t have a great look, but the location was very good for us, to switch between traveling south and north of the island. Our room was clean. We could wash and dry our clothes (it was a rare find). The staff was friendly and very helpful. They recommended a restaurant nearby, which was perfect. A place for breakfast was also nearby (a cool cafe/bar with a very good taste for music and food).
Cons: Shared bathroom/toilets will always be a minus.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and sweet facility. We loved every bit of it. The staff was also very kind.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very clean and comfortable with good facilities. Good size family room for two adults and two teenagers. Close to nice American diner.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Clean and comfortable
Cons: No
7.9 Good
Pros: Nice and clean guesthouse, staff was friendly and helpful. Good internet.
Cons: Be mindful as the property has a wrong adress on Google Maps so you better use the GPS coordinates.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely clean and hygienic
7.9 Good
Pros: The room was very comfortable and big. Nice location
Cons: The kitchen was not very big.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Everything was clean. Use of fully equipped kitchen.
Cons: The rooms are arranged around the dining area which makes it very noisy at night and in the morning if you have fellow guests who are non-considerate about their noise level like we experienced. Also the cooking smell creeps into the room. The doors are self closing ones and none of the other 10 guests on our floor was able to hold it until it finally shuts. So think about constant door banging.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: the landlady recommended a very nice local restaurant.
Cons: google map mistakenly locates the place to a police station. Someone from the hotel better check that.
Olga Guesthouse - Egilsstaðir - Building
6
8.6 Excellent (688 reviews)
C$ 101+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Olga Guesthouse in Egilsstadir, you'll be a 2-minute walk from East Iceland Heritage Museum and 13 minutes by foot from Fardaga Waterfall. Limited parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean linens, comfortable beds, adequate number of clean bathrooms, , map on kitchen table, good location, quiet guests, well supplied kitchen, cute house.
Cons: Kitchen wasn't adequate if more than one party needed to cook at the same time. 20 minute " limit" was not reasonable time to cook dinner. Kitchen could use better lighting , oven didn't turn on (instructions?), needs an effective pot scrubber, boot rack at the front door, more hooks/hangars in the rooms. Would prefer to pay separately,as we were a party of four friends.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: No breakfast available on site. Instead there is an American 50s style diner up the hill next to a gas station that served a variety of food. Guest house facilities clean, comfortable with a shared bathroom. Camp ground was in another part of town a short drive away. The check in worked for us but only because we had access to the internet and email. It would have been hard/impossible without it. It was close to the local museum.
7.1 Good
Pros: Easy to checkin / checkout. Free parking near the house for 4 cars and also on the other side of the road. Bathroom was shared but very clean, rooms were also neat and tidy. Bars, diners, restaurants in a walking distance.
Cons: there is a shared kitchen and one of the guests was cooking dinner and the whole building was smelling bad, we had to escape and went to a bar
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice house
Cons: No
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The booklet with Olgas tips was very nice and helpful! The house is beautiful, like on the photos. The breakfast in Skalins Diner was an like a wonderful time travel. Great!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were in the basement room . Very comfortable, quiet. Appreciated the breakfast voucher for great breakfast at nearby diner.
Cons: Nothing .
8.3 Excellent
Pros: very comfortable beds. fridge in room. good coffee.
Cons: noisy entrance door
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good location. Clean. Decent sized rooms and a good value for Iceland. It's a house. Walls a bit thin, but certainly OK.
Cons: I didn't like getting instructions on how to get in the day before arriving. My wife and I were on vacation. We didn't know how to get in. I'd left my phone charger at a previous stop (we were 11 days into our trip by then). This isn't cool-requiring someone to have a device; a power converter; etc Need a better way to do this. We had to go find someone with a phone and ask if we could use it - only HOPING the owners finally sent an email telling us how to get in.

With a stay at Hótel Snæfell in Seydisfjordur, you'll be a 2-minute walk from Seydisfjordur Harbour and 6 minutes by foot from Skaftfell - Center for Visual Art. Free self parking is available onsite.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location and the charm of the hotel were divine.
Cons: Walls were so thin, I could hear snoring from the room next door!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: cute location, cute rooms, clean.
Cons: breakfast could be included
7.5 Good
Pros: Proximity to town. Ample parking.
2.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Room was tiny , like staying in a closet with a bed. No room to walk around let alone put anything away. Had to keep luggage in car. Bed and pillows covered in dust. Staff was unfriendly and not helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very good breakfast, nice location near the lake, big room with nice views.
Cons: Very small sink, bathroom without ventilation.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very nice staff.
Cons: Really small bathroom
7.1 Good
Pros: We did like the style of the property and its location on the shoreline.
Cons: A bit overpriced considering the size of the room.
7.9 Good
Pros: Clean, convenient, adequate accommodation, in an aged property. Our room very small, but beds comfortable, and all very clean. Nearby "Nordic" restaurant for breakfast (buffet) very good. Dinner there really good too.
Cons: Room very small, but all that was available when booking made.
7.1 Good
Pros: The breakfast was good but pricey. The town is very scenic
Cons: the instructions on how to check in were almost hidden. the room's windows leaked a lot of cold air and there was only one radiator - not enought to make the room comfortable. The bathroom had no radiator and with the leaky window was cold.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great breakfast, great location.
Cons: The room was absolutley tiny!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hotel check-in is in a separate building across the bridge at the Nordic Restaurant. Stop by the restaurant to check in, also the food is great at the restaurant, which is charming. The hotel appears to be in a old converted building of 3 stories. It was probably not a hotel before. The bathrooms were probably added during the renovation, so they are quite small. Everything creaks in the building, so if you're a light sleeper, bring earplugs. Beds were nice and comfortable, pillows were nice and firm. Had a view of the lake and the community is charming. There is only 1 common area on the second floor. It's a quiet little town surrounded by a beautiful fjord. You can walk around the town in about 25 minutes.
Cons: Small bathrooms, but most European countries bathrooms are usually small. Due to the small rooms, wish there was a larger common area to lounge, that was stocked with coffee, tea or hot water amenities. That would be a nice addition.

Cons: The room was extremely small and disfunctional, meaning there was no room to move around the room, and among other things, the beds did not have adjacent nightstands.

4.6 Okay
Cons: water all over the floor after shower. Room was too far from hotel parking lot
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This was a really unique stay. At first we thought it was an old converted hospital. It is actually a boarding school! The boarding school is converted to a hotel during summer to assist with accommodating tourists, given the growth of tourism over the past years and the lack of available accommodation.
Cons: The shower nozzle was not adjustable. I'd still stay again. It's a boarding school and therefore a unique stay.
