Pros: Welcome to a small paradize in Tambor. Everything was perfect from the bread at breakfeast to the monkey playing around the pool for sunset. Best lodge we have done in Costa Rica, we stayed one night more than planned. Host are a french family, very friendly.
Cons: -
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location in the rainforest, fantastic host, very relaxed and peaceful, the perfect retreat after a hot day.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Outrageous! Brand new! Upscale! 2 pools. Monkeys right outside our room and a Motmot! Very quiet here, no partying. Lovely landscaping, well lit and high security. We were able to book a bio-luminescent tour upon arrival. Delicious breakfast.
Cons: No dinner available on premesis. Big walk up hill to get to reception area (but plenty of help with your bags). You will have to drive to restaurants etc.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Thank you Thomas for this lovely stay. You built an wonderful retreat in the green hills.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: All
Cons: All was good.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Where can I start. We stayed in one of the little villas. It was like sleeping in the a perfect little piece of heaven. The view from our bed made it seem like we were sleeping in the tree tops. One morning a troupe of howler monkeys went right over our villa and we laid in bed watching them. The shower room was the standard of a top hotel and the nicest we had all holiday. We watched monkeys in the trees from the shower too Thomas is a fab host. The breakfasts were delicious. The whole place is beautiful and feels very private. I can’t recommend a stay here enough. We stayed 3 nights but wish we could have stayed longer.
Cons: Having to leave!!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We loved absolutely everything! The location is quiet and secluded, but plenty of signs to find it off the main road. The property is beautifully and cleverly designed, you feel like you are the only ones there. Set in a rainforest with wildlife all around. Thomas, the owner is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
Cons: Absolutely nothing to dislike, it is perfect!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Lodging was as if I were at home
Cons: It was absolutely amazing it was Paradise with in Paradise Thomas was an outstanding host and attended to every detail impeccably. Would definitely come here again pray to God that I do

Cons: No free WiFi, dirty bathroom, not possible to make a reservation to ala carte restaurant, there weren’t towels in the room, staff at the reception not helpful, don’t even think about playing football outside- sand it’s not smooth so you will destroy your feet. Not 5* standard
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything!
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Beautiful beach and park like grounds. Large pool. Many activities for children and adults. Everything kept very clean. Amazing buffet on Valentines Day. The dancers/ entertainers were excellent.
Cons: Very loud music. The daily buffet was a little repetitive and the al la carte restaurants were very difficult to access.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: If you are not snobbish and do not aspire to elitism, Barcelo Tambor is a great place to vacation. The Tambor bay and beach are unspoiled and scenic, the sea water temperature vey pleasant, the Barcelo facilities nicely designed, its grounds carefully landscaped, and the food vey good for a mass tourism establishment. I had a great stay at a comparatively reasonable price. Two final positive notes. Next to Barcelo Tambor is a small airport which has in and out regular avionette connections with SJO airport. At Barcelo you can book a snorkeling or scuba diving trip to the nearby Tortuga Island or a visit to the Caño Natural Reserve, both of them worthy day excursions.
Good 6.0
Cons: The inflexibility of the staff to accommodate requests relating to problems with the AC and not having the room we were given match that described during the online reservation process
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: THE SWIM UP BAR.
Cons: THE FOOD. THEY SERVED THE SAME THING EVERY SINGLE DAY AND WE WERE THERE FOR 7 DAYS....SOOOO BORING!!!!
Excellent 8.0
Pros: Wifi was poor it was only available in the reception are and not any where else.
Cons: the Wifi limitation thyere is a fee and the connection was not available all over.

Excellent 10.0
Pros: This place is an absolute gem! The casita was clean, comfortable and had AC and a refrigerator. The view was incredible! Sunrises every morning. The staff was wonderful, helpful and very accomodating especially Farina. The grounds and pool were gorgeous and well kept. And I can't forget our amazing yoga instructor Michele! Yoga every morning at 7 am on the beautiful yoga deck. He also offers massage services.
Cons: The roads getting there are a little rough but hey! It's worth it! Breakfast was not included but was available.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The casitas were charming, clean and comfortable and the grounds were stunning. The infinity pool had an incredible view and was perfect for relaxing after a hot day. I can’t say enough great things about the staff, especially Farina, who were welcoming and went out of their way to make us mojitas with mint from their garden and a late dinner. I highly recommend this place. It’s a romantic little jewel!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The staff, Farina and Larissa, made all the difference in the world. From a warm friendly greeting to resolving any issues to making reservations for us, they were kind, courteous and attentive. The property is perfect: cool breezes, clean accommodations, warm showers and the most amazing views. We are family of 7 and had two 2 bedroom villas we cooked most of our meals to save some money. It was perfect.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: It was just gorgeous. We loved everything about it.
Cons: Nothing.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: gorgeous infinity pool
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The room. The pool. The service. The food. The staff. The view. The cabanas. The location. The vibe. The open showers. The sunrise. The proximity to the town.
Cons: I didn't like that my stay was so short. 3 days was not enough. I could easily spend over a week here.
Excellent 8.8
Pros: Beautiful pool and view of the ocean. The whole Vibe was relaxing, like a resort. Very friendly staff. Thank you Michele for the wonderful sunrise yoga class!
Cons: The villas were basic but we were hardly in our room anyways. Some limitations of staff being present at the bar and able to serve alcohol.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff was excellent. Larissa was very attentive and friendly.
Cons: Hill was hard to drive up in a car without 4 wheel drive, but we made it!
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Perfectly situated in a remote and quiet location, the property boasts private casitas, a swimming pool, a yoga deck and a bar where you can order excellent Italian food. Marco, the owner and chef, is dedicated to pleasing his guests. The staff are kind and helful. The Italian/Costarican food is truly wonderful, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner - be sure to book ahead! This is a perfect place to rest a few days, visit the Montezuma area, and enjoy the beach from afar. Owing to its location atop a hill, you can see the wide ocean and feel a nice breeze (as opposed to suffering from excruciating heat when near the ocean). Highly recommended for couples or travelling buddies.
Cons: Keep in mind that Casitas Sollevante are situated on a hill overlooking the ocean. This means that walking to the village takes 20+ minutes via main road and service road.
Excellent 8.0
Pros: I loved the cleanliness and the unique style of the hotel. The staff was beyond friendly and helpful as much as they could with any requests we had.
Cons: On kayak the map shows as if it is walking distance to the town of Montezuma. Unfortunately, it is not walkabout because you are up in the mountain a bit. It is a very quick taxi ride to the town, however if you plan on staying out it may be a bit difficult to find a taxi for the ride back. I called the hotel and was unable to get assistance with a taxi back to the hotel so we just kept asking around town.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Super friendly and helpful staff Great pool with view

Excellent 9.2
Pros: The staff very amazing very friendly and helpful. The location was lovely- right on the beach. Nice pool area, and really clean and pretty grounds. The owner was around a lot and checked in with us at breakfast and dinner to make sure everything was ok. Good restaurant for lunch.
Cons: Nice restaurant although limited dinner menu and quite expensive. Bad WiFi and intermittent tv signal.
Good 7.0
Pros: The location on the beach is great
Cons: Too quite, pools were baking hot, food options limited and not reflective of Costa Rican cuisine Really disappointed with the golf clubs I hired for $20. You could have bought what I used at a jumble sale for 50 pence. Several different make of clubs in the bag including a females club or two. Ben hogan clubs that says it all very old and pointless using them ruined my enjoyment of the course.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Very nice beach setting. Great staff and restaurant. Resort never felt crowded, small enough, in terms of capacity, to be personal. Owner was on site for our whole stay and is very friendly. White face mokneys hanging around the pool resteraunt.
Cons: Lot of stairs to our room (the rooms are scattered across different locations on the property) which was sometimes taxing in the heat. Ocean was a bit rough so you had to pick your times for swimming.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Beautiful and well maintained with plush vegetation. Staff were welcoming and so accommodating. Owner very present and looking to make sure we were happy.
Cons: Wish they had more restaurants but ones they had were great. We stayed 5 nights and didn’t have bad meal.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything! Food, drinks, service, room. Owner is fantastic!
Cons: Loved everything about Tango Mar!! Only suggestion is better communication between front desk and clientele. Nobody told us they offered taxi service.
Okay 5.0
Pros: The location is good and secluded for those with a car. The property is on a very nice beach, though not one you want to swim in due to the strong surf. Very pretty though. It's very near Cocalita falls and the area surrounding the property is nice and rural. The grounds are well groomed and there are flowers peeking out from the well manicured hedges. Three or four pools and lots of places to feel as though you have escaped. Massage was fantastic and the atmosphere is tropical if a little sterile.
Cons: Indifferent staff at the desk and in the restaurants. Appalling wifi. Most sites timed out before they could load, in the room or in the lobby. Though the lobby was marginally better. At semi-premium prices it is not acceptable quality. Asked for help booking something and was pointed to a computer in the 'business' area. 5 minutes to get a beer when there are three servers in a bar with only two other tables is poor service. When there was rain in the evening not one waiter helped guests bring their food under cover. They did ensure the seat cushions from empty tables didn't get wet. The food was fairly low quality (especially for the price) and the staff never bothered to ask if any of the meal items were good or bad or whatever. Just drop the food and take the money.. Very indifferent service. The room (jungle) was nice enough but felt a little worn. Not sure if the bed sheets had been changed or if the bed was just sort of sloppily made before I arrived. All in all kind of a let down if you have high expectations. Fine as a way to segue into your Costa Rican vacation but not really the best you'll find in the area.

Excellent 9.2
Pros: Bridget and Leon were great hosts and spent a lot of time helping us find things to do in the area and giving us a history of the place. The food was good and we enjoyed the horse ride. It was a great place to relax after a long day exploring the beaches, forests and snorkeling! It is off the beaten path, which was one of our favorite things about it. I wish we would have stayed longer!
Cons: The only issue we had was that one of the mattresses in our room was very firm, and I sleep on a firm mattress! Also, I would book the bungalow which is separate from the other 2 rooms to have a little more privacy and quiet.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: A/C pretty good. The Shower and also the utensils for cook were really helpful.
Cons: The place is 10 minutes from Tambor Beach. The place is sparkling clean and the owner was really helpful. She gave us directions to playa cocalito. This place is really good for the value, especially for a group of friends or family with a Sedan accessibly road.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The ranch sits in a calm and relaxing area not far away from Tambor by car. The house was big enough to accommodate 8 people, it was clean and had all necessary appliances to cook. We really enjoyed our stay.
Cons: The wifi was down at the time due to public construction/renovation.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: PURA VIDA!!!! Relaxing, peaceful, genuine hosts and their dogs are the best! Best time on my trip (or in the past 20 years) was horseback riding with Leon and the dogs frolicking the whole way just made me smile and forget the outside world. If you are looking for a serene authentic experience, this is it.
Cons: Nada
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Everything
Cons: Wow !! What an experience we had as a family in this beautiful ranch with those beautiful people- Brigitte and Lean are so genuinly kind and welcoming. We had great and interesting discussions in thz evening. The double room was very large, confortable and clean with an all equiped kitchen outside. Breakfast made by Brigitte, with delicious home made multigran bread and mango jam, was aamazing. The kids had a great horseback riding experience (because it is not like any other offered everywhere) .. Because Leon makes all the difference with his stories and because the horses are so happy in this place. When there, we visited tombor and montezuma... Both very close by car. The ranch is huge, very simple, peaceful and beautiful... We didnt want to leave this place... We hioe to be back soon and recommand to anyone wanting to experiznce a real finca in costa rica.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Great location - green and pleasant and great for bird watching . Also close to Tambor beach , montezuma and the Curu national park - all of which are great spots . Brigitte the host was very helpful with local info and organising ferries for us . The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed to cook for ourselves and the rooms were cleaned every day. It felt very safe and relaxing - Thankyou Brigitte ;)
Cons: Sadly - through no fault of Brigittes the internet was down which made planning things and keeping track of our businesses harder - but kept the youth more interactive - so there’s always a bright side ;)
Excellent 9.0
Pros: We liked the nature surrounding the ranch, the beds were very comfortable and the room was very clean. We could buy breakfast at the ranch and it was delicious. Very quiet and peaceful place that we recommend. The hosts were really nice and friendly! Fidelito is far from the dust and about 10 minutes drive to Tambor beach, which is a perfect combination!

Excellent 10.0
Pros: Super clean with am amazing view and very quite. Great breakfast that changed each morning
Cons: No complaints
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The location is amazing, especially if you like to be off the beaten path. Views are incredible, the photo attached was off our balcony one morning. We also saw monkeys crossing one of the suspension bridge cables. Breakfast was good but not fancy, served on the patio by the pool. Everything seemed very clean. We didn't mind, but you have to climb a lot of steps here, drive up steep roads, and the driveway itself was pretty rough and would have been very difficult in a small car. It's a good 15min walk down the (very steep) hill to the beach, and probably 25min to the town. If you have a problem with heights, you may want to avoid the suspension bridge! None of these things were a negative for us, but good to know ahead of time.
Cons: Although the room was clean, we had ants in the room when we arrived. The guy on staff sprayed around and tried to clean up the dead ones, which mostly solved it. The bed was pretty firm.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Excelent breakfast with very good service. Clean and nice room with a fantastic view to the sea. From the beach there was a very steep slope to the hotel which was hard to walk. Very nice and friendly staff!
Cons: We missed pick up service from - and to - the beach
Good 7.0
Pros: The hotel was set above Montezuma with a steep road to get there - not easy to walk back from after dinner in Montezuma but it was certainly picturesque and a "hanging bridge" to use to walk to the neighboring road. Plus breakfast had the same sort of view. The hotel also had air-conditioning which was nice after the humid days there. It was also well set up just near the waterfalls of the small town.
Cons: Nothing springs to mind !
Excellent 9.0
Pros: I loved the view from the room, the breakfast area and the pool. There was good coffee to make in the room and a great restaurant was just a short walk away. The hanging bridge was great too.
Cons: For some people the location on the hill could be difficult but we enjoyed the walk and exercise.
Excellent 8.3
Pros: Very clean, brand new
Cons: No mirror other than the small bathroom mirror
Excellent 8.0
Pros: The location was absolutely stunning (we, of course, particularly liked the suspension bridge and the nearby paths to the waterfalls), staff were super friendly and helpful and the hotel was very well-kept.
Cons: Possibly bringing luggage up and down on the outside stairs, but there the staff quickly intrervened and did it for us.

Pros: Awesome location at the ocean with tidepool and beautiful and big garden! Staff was very friendly. Waterfall, beach and town in walking distance.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The ocean view, the garden with the hammocks, the natural pool, the location, the peaceful and laid back atmosphere, the staff: wow gotta go back there !
Cons: Nothing
Good 7.0
Pros: The location was perfect, the backyard leading to the beach is amazing! Nice sunset view!
Cons: The smell in the room, was some musty smell as if it needed a dehumidifier in there.
Good 7.0
Pros: Staff. Beautiful setting and tide pools.
Cons: The linens could use replacing otherwise all great
Excellent 10.0
Pros: This place is a true paradise: its location, wonderfully created and maintained garden just on the shore next to the ocean is magic place to stay. It brings you to another world of appreciating the moment, daily sunrise, quietness - only the sounds of ocean and birds. The facilities are well maintained, the owner is German lady and you can sense a highly practical, quality driven with good standards approach, and friendly hospitality in everything. The breakfast wasn’t included in the price of staying but was worthy to have in the beautiful terrace with the view to the garden and ocean. Very good diversity of breakfast and tasty bread! The best in Montezuma! Closest is the waterfall where people come for hiking, and yoga studio is just 3 mins walk! I couldn’t find the better place in Montezuma and overall it is one of the best I have ever stayed, while traveling a lot! Thank you
Cons: Nothing here to say.

Pros: Staff very friendly, nice breakfast
Cons: It’s a bit noisy because it’s located next to the main road
Mediocre 2.0
Cons: This was by far the worst hotel ice ever stayed at. I've stayed in hostels that were a third of the price and 10X more acceptable. It was filthy and absolutely uninhabitable. We stayed long enough to book another room and got the hell out!
Good 6.3
Pros: Kind staff, food smelled good, greeted with a blended drink, same day booking & on site parking.
Cons: Room did not match booking.com description & bed was a foam pad on slatted wood.
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Breakfast was great. Staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful
Cons: Would be nice to have some hangers, otherthan that everything was fine.
Poor 1.0
Pros: Very local experience, I suppose...
Cons: Where to start... - filthy sink and moldy shower head - random hairs all over the room's floor - broken electric shower, cold water only - unfriendly owner, awkward check-in made us feel unwelcome - HDR pictures on booking.com are very misleading, place looks nothing like this - the restaurant below is supposed to close at 10pm which would be fine, but apparently this is the place where locals hang out to get drunk. This meant people bawling in front of our window until the middle of the night which thanks to paper thin walls made sleeping impossible, even with earplugs in - surprisingly much traffic on the neighbouring road, even at night time. Additionally mufflers do not seem to be a thing in this neck of the woods. - ordered food "sin ajo" which was confirmed by the waiter, but food came out with literal heaps of garlic on it which is a bit problematic for an allergic. I really don't understand how this place rates North of a 7, I recommend avoiding it at all cost.
Okay 5.0
Pros: Honestly the only good part was that there were a few nice employees especially Lester.
Cons: The place was extremely loud. The main road was connected to parking lot and very loud trucks were passing at all times. The bar downstairs stayed open late with very loud music and metal doors slamming then they reopened at first light making it impossible to sleep. The manager/ owner/ chef was rude and refused to return any money once we decided that we didn't want to stay. He insisted that we spent the difference in his restaurant which was subpar at best. He didn't have many ingredients for the food and drinks that we were made to spend a good deal of money on. At one point we ordered desert and were asked to prepare it myself because I am a chef. They didn't have most of the ingredients for cocktails that were listed on their drink menus. Would not reccomend.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: We like this hotel much and had pleasure to stay. Staff is amazing, ready to help with anything we need. We felt there like second home. And super good food in the restaurant, not expensive and delicious!
Okay 5.4
Pros: Staff
Cons: No hot water for the shower ... Food is ordinary
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: Being near Tambor beach.
Cons: The room door was hard to open and close the key was to turned too many times before it opens the door. The shower water was too cold , the heater was not working. The manager fixed it but still hard to use.
Okay 5.8
Pros: Good breakfast. Good connection with public bus (next to bus stop). Rent a car just accross the street. To the beach 10min walk. Clean
Cons: Cold shower. Staff speak no english.

Pros: Location and the staff.
Cons: Noisy and the bed was average.
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Staff was attentive and helpful. Location was great. Fridge and coffee pot in the room is a plus!
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Matilda was an incredible host. She made our stay memorable and went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. I would stay here again because of the service and friendly environment. Thanks again Matilda !
Cons: The beds were to hard and no pool. Other than that the accommodation was outstanding
Excellent 10.0
Pros: Perfect mix of relaxed, social atmosphere and privacy. 30 second walk to the beach and anywhere in Montezuma. The owners have run this hotel since the 80s and you can tell they pour their heart and soul into it. Would definitely recommend.
Mediocre 3.0
Pros: Just the very basics: 24hr reception and that we could leave our bags there for a few hours while exploring the town. Didn’t really like anything about the room itself.
Cons: The room was dirty, the bathroom had mould and dust everywhere. We had a room on the side and the hotel is situated next to a road —so some noise was to be expected. However, there was no sound insulation whatsoever and whenever a car passed it was like it went right through the room (we slept w the windows closed). We aren’t fussy at all. We’ve mostly stayed in hostels this trip (both in private rooms and in dorms) and this hotel was definitely the worst place we’ve stayed at in our three weeks here.
Excellent 9.6
Pros: Right in the center of Montezuma! Clean e comfortable room! Warm watet not hot but I think is problem of all Costarica! Staff helpful
Cons: The room close to the share kitchen is very noisy early in the morning so not good!

Cons: Nada
Good 7.0
Pros: Beautiful location, great view from the window and a quaint place
Cons: The business next door had a concert and disco and the music was unbearable loud until about 3am
Excellent 9.0
Pros: Great location, basic but clean.could ask for more!
Good 7.0
Pros: Good wifi, reception very helpful
Cons: On middle of things so quite noisy
Okay 5.0
Pros: Clean sheets and towels. Bed surprisingly comfortable. Location was nice, right next to beach.
Cons: Open to main guest area and kitchen. Very loud. Room 21 had horrible sewage smell all night long, made me physically ill and could not sleep, it was too late to change rooms and I was only there for 1 nt. I should have been fully refunded but was only offered 10% discount. Only one wall plug worked, so either fan or charging phone.
Excellent 9.2
Pros: The location is awesome! Steps from the beach! Staff is super helpful and nice
Excellent 10.0
Pros: The lady who manages the property is absolutely charming -- very helpful and always pleasant and professional. The building is rustic. It's right on the shore so waves come right up to the building. It's a gorgeous sound day and night. We had room 9 with terrific views and which has no A/C. We didn't need A/C as I prefer the windows open so I can hear the sound of the surf. This property isn't luxurious in the usual sense, but it has luxury for the soul. As soon as I got out of the shuttle in front of the building, I knew I'd like the hotel, and it is one I'll remember from my visit to CR. There is a nice kitchen which us for use by the guests. If you want to cook, it's fully equipped.
