Jakes - Treasure Beach - Building
1
8.7 Excellent (242 reviews)
C$ 306+
Overview Reviews
Before hip design-driven boutique hotels became a thing, there was Jakes. The hotel began its life as a restaurant, with Sally Henzell as proprietor-in-chief. A great success, tipsy guests begged Sally to build a place where they could spend the night. So she built one, and then another, and then another of her striking structures in a style that can best be described as Jimi Hendrix meets Antoni Gaudi on the beach in Jamaica. These buildings—in bursts of blue, pink and acid yellow—dot the laidback beaches and sparsely populated coast of Treasure Beach. You’ll find most of these buildings at Jakes where, together, they house our colorful community of rooms. Some have ocean views, some have garden views; some have interior seating and dining areas; many have outdoor showers. Each has its own outdoor space and private entrance. No two rooms are exactly alike, yet all have oodles of character and charm. In each of our hotel rooms: A/C, Wi-Fi, mini fridge, coffee maker, Bluetooth speaker, digital safe, rainfall showerhead
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything about the place was great. If you are looking for an all inclusive, sitting on the beach, this is not it. If you are looking for a charming experience where you integrate with the community, this is a remarkable place.
Cons: The few, entitled Americans who I came across.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very helpful and friendly.
Cons: Nothing
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The atmosphere is just lovely. Situated near the beach and surrounded with beautiful plants and trees, this is the perfect place to relax. The adjoining restaurant that is from Jakes as well is lovely, offers great food and is a great place to enjoy a beer and conversation in the evening. The staff was lovely and helped us with all our inquiries.
Cons: We had some trouble with our air conditioning in our rooms. In one room the only mode was very cold and in the other room it was more of a fan. We could still sleep very well, so no biggie.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Food was excellent; tasty without the salt and fats. Love the environmentally friendly and sustainable approach to life - no plastic, no plastic straws, fresh food and coconut water - right by the relaxed beach with very little folks around.
Cons: I liked everything but this is not a place I would go all the time. It is a bit secluded so if one if looking for off site fun and night life, it might not be the place to be. Go relax!!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: the employees are friendly and helpful, I feel like home there, the whole facility is working finely and I had a really lovely time here.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Yoga area was open to the ocean and the sea breezes, but covered from the sun. It was pure heaven! They also had free weights for a light workout.
Cons: Leaving
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Everything, the people, the place, the food, the atmosphere. Jake's is the treasure in treasure beach! I could not fault it and will definitely be back! Smurfs for breakfast down the road is as authentic Jamaican as you can get. Pelican bar is also worth it as the boat ride is beautiful!
Cons: The mosquitoes! I get bitten a lot so if I was going again I'd be sure to take every precaution. Bug spray alone was not enough for me!
7.5 Good
Pros: The best views I’ve ever had from my room, right next to the ocean. Simply breathtaking!
Cons: They could do better at breakfast. The bed was a bit too small and the mattress felt worn out.
7.1 Good
Pros: Liked the staff, the food, the location, the black sand beach and crashing waves.
Cons: The bed was too high.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The beach. The hospitality. The staff. The scenery.

Pros: Treasure beach is one of my favourite parish, the beach and sunset give nigril competition. The staff were lovely and friendly and I couldn't fault them. The rooms were comfortable and the hotel is near all the amenities, definitely would recommend this hotel
Cons: Two things, first was the small pool was open and the large pool was closed. Second, when you sit on the balcony, the trees are spoiling the beautiful, stunning views.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: The receptionist Cindy had a lovely personality and aimed to please however, she really wasn't given much to work with.
Cons: The rooms were small and lacked basic amenities, more of a motel kind of set up than a hotel. sparse furnishings and very thin bedsheets. The bathroom flooded out the room each night, the first night I was moved, they claimed to have fixed the problem but the next night I returned to the previous room and got up in a flooded room.
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Staff was accommodating
Cons: The hotel information published is misleading. This hotel does not fit the purpose in many ways. For example very old bed and mattress, was told to stand on furniture to operate A.C. and filthy bathroom.. the price quoted by booking.com was not what was charged.. cost of stay was excessive.
