Tucked against the Pines of northwest Nebraska, the Best Western West Hills Inn makes a friendly base in Chadron, Nebraska, where the plains break into pine-clad buttes and canyons. This is fur-trade and frontier country. Chadron State Park, the oldest in Nebraska, climbs into the ponderosa pines just south of town, the Museum of the Fur Trade preserves the region's trapping history, and the summer Fur Trade Days revive it with rendezvous and contests. Chadron State College brings events to town, and the Black Hills rise a short drive north across the South Dakota line. Every room has been extensively updated, with free high-speed internet and a large breakfast buffet to open the day. Friendly service and a quiet setting round out the stay, an easy landing after a day on the road. Right where the prairie climbs into the Pine Ridge, Chadron opens the door to the buttes and the Black Hills.
