Great experience. Would rent again without hesitation.
Pros: I would definitely rent again. The only reason I gave it a "Good" rating rather than an "Excellent" is explained in the comments of "what could have been better".
I had paid online in advance. The process of picking up the car was smooth and quick.
When I asked if there was a complementary map, I was provided with a simple map of Halifax - exactly what I needed.
When I returned the car and followed the signs into the parking garage, an attendant was immediately available outside to direct me into a parking space and examine the car for any damage.
Cons: Because it was foggy, and raining outside, and rather dark in the parking garage, I didn't see that there was some food debris in the centre area around the gear shift when I received the car.
It was the next day that I became aware of this, outside in bright daylight. The rest of the car was very clean, including the floor mats. I do not feel that this area was intentionally overlooked but rather missed for the same reasons I didn't see it until later. The people inspecting and preparing the car for the next rental would benefit from some good lighting to notice details.
And, renters should be more considerate in the care of their rented vehicle to prevent this kind of soiling - totally unnecessary.

Where are the electrical cars?
Pros: I like the white colour.
Cons: Bad fuel efficiency for a small car (8.8!), instead of compact cars you should have fuel efficient. And when will we be able to rent electric cars?
Price was definitely more than advertised.

Deceptive, Fraudulent Business Practices
Cons: Three significant problems with our car rental experience:
1) After paying in full online with Kayak, we were billed again at pickup at the Hertz counter in the amount of $64. The counter clerk explained that every day she receives complaints about the extra billing and that there is nothing she can do about. We paid the $64 since we needed a a car right then; in effect, a hostage payment.
2) Our Hertz counter clerk urged we self-inspect the car for any significant problems. We did so and found only an aged, minor paint chip and some minor scratches on the bumper. We accepted the car as is with these minor damages. After returning the car in clean condition and with a full tank of gas, we received by email a damage investigation notice that there was the chipped paint and bumper scrapes. There should, of course, be no investigation of these issues since they existed prior to our rental.
3) After receiving the damage inspection email, I called Hertz's damage inspection manager Kelly Ann Boutilier. On the phone, Kelly Ann promised to look into the matter immediately get back to me the same day for resolution, since she was leaving for a 3 day trip. Kelly Ann did not follow through and get back to me as promised.
Conclusion: Our rental experience was highly negative. Truly, this has been a flim-flam, con. At the moment, we are being billed $131.74 for the original charge, plus a second billing of $205.07. The original contract price was just $42.51/day x 3 days = $127.53. We are placing both charges with our credit card in dispute.

Pros: It was very easy to pick up and drop off the car. The staff member were very kind.
Cons: However, I did not end up with the type of car I thought I had rented. They gave me the keys to a much bigger car than what I expected. Having never driven such a big car, it made me very uncomfortable at first. And they could not find another car to match my criterias, even though I had made my reservations a few weeks in advance.
Pros: Worked out very well for us. Drop off in Halifax was very efficient. Some of the questions on comgirtbetc didn't apply as I dropped it off and left.

Cons: The gps setting, we are old fashioned and are not familiar with the new technology. It will be perfect if there was 5 minutes introduction.

Halifax Car rental online special
Pros: The price was lower than other deals, even Costco, who I normally use.
Cons: We arrived at the Halifax airport in the evening, around 9pm. I booked online and when I received my receipt, I noted it said "specialty car". I called the Halifax Airport Alamo to find out what this meant. She said likely a smaller SUV...not a van or larger car. When we got there , a very bossy, unfriendly clerk said, you get whatever I have left. You might even get a pick up. When I told her I had called ahead for clarification, and what I was advised, she said" that's wrong, she should never have said that, I will have to speak to them at the meeting..." Very loud and rude person. Did not like her service. She was also very short to a customer who was booking with National, and the service person was not at their counter, and she said over here, see the sign, THIS is National get in line! But the car - a Buick SUV was great, and ran perfectly. It was great for sightseeing, with excellent visibility and good power.

Car features were nice!
Pros: I don't rent often. The car had iPlay and a touchscreen built in which made it very easy to navigate and make phone calls with my iphone. Car happened to be brand new with 10km.
Pros: Polite helpful desk staff. Very easy and rapid process.
Cons: Everything was fine with the rental.

Pros: Staff at Halifax were excellent.
Cons: The two telephone reps ( from Timbuck2) did not do anything they were asked to do even though they acknowledged they did.
Vehicle was smaller than advertised even though the disclaimer may have shown that. Our vehicle was not similar to a Chev Tahoe by any standard.
Pros: The car was as advertised and the staff at Halifax Airport were friendly and helpful
Cons: I got hit with a $20 Premium outlet charge that wasn't stated when I booked with Kayak

Cons: Unfortunately the car was extremely hard on fuel despite asking for an economy. I drove only 60 km on the highway with no traffic and it cost over $20 to refuel. The car did not run well, you could feel it shifting every gear like there was something wrong with it and it was an automatic.
Other than that, it was okay. Their staff are very friendly.
