The people were very nice and the breakfast buffet was very good.
We were in single rooms that had stained carpets and torn upholstery, and we were paying 390.00 euro per night. this was an outrageous amount to pay, even if it was medica. the holiday inn express was charging 410 euro, without pre-payment including breakfast and much nicer accommodations. We also paid 390 Euro for Saturday night even though medica was over. We should not have been charged this higher rate for our Saturday stay, the Holiday Inn express did not. I appreciate being moved to alternative accommodations, with a kettle, and an ironing board, but I would never stay there again. I would still like to be reimbursed for the over charge for Saturday night. that was 720 euro for two rooms when it should have been less than 200 euro
Good service and nice staff. Room old and dark, dirty carpet and uncomfortable beds. Me and my colleague got food poisoning, which was probably from the hotel breakfast.
Good-ish location, ten minutes walk from main train station and public transport to Altstadt, quiet area (shame about the group of lads - football fans? - that woke our floor up at 5am), staff welcoming and efficient, free landline calls to Europe and free Wi-Fi in room very good. Breakfast very good for this standard of hotel.
I requested a non-smoking room but didn't get one - the smell of stale tobacco was strong. The bed sagged uncomfortably in the middle (room 449). The free landline call didn't work initially but after a call to reception I was able to use this service. The wi-fi reception in the room oscillated and sometimes cut out, though this didn't affect me so much since I didn't need to use it intensively.
I like that it was only 15mins walk to the central station which was convenient for me for the train connection to the Messe exhibition. It was also quite peaceful in a quiet street but not too far away from the busy shopping streets.
I did not like the fact that there is a coin activated safe in the room. I dont know if it is common practice in Dusseldorf but I have travelled and stayed in a few hotels and resorts before and have never encountered this problem. Its not about how much it cost, but its about when in the room one wants to feel no constraints.
