The owner is very friendly and a great Chef
If you like hotel chains, then stay away. If you are looking for an authentic French village experience then book now! The food is incredible. The owner is a fantastic host. Highly recommend. Book dinner reservations. If you have a food issue, let them know 24 hours in advance because it is a traditional fixed menu. Food is excellent. Breakfast is perfect.
Nothing to complain about.
It was very comfortable and welcoming. The owner/chef was incredibly helpful in every way and his meals were excellent. We had a fabulous experience.
We were met by Marc, the owner/chef who is a wonderful character and very charming. He checked us in personally and told us about the menu in the restaurant that evening, goats cheese to start, one cold with herbs and one baked in filo, for main there was duck inside a potato gateau with sauce, for dessert walnut ice cream and nougat ice cream, both in tuile baskets and an individual chocolate pudding with a runny centre. It sounded delicious...and it was!! For an aperitif he suggested a kir with saffron syrup, which was also delicious and we had a very nicely chilled bottle of rose with our meal. A nice evening walk around the town was required after that superb meal before retiring to our air conditioned room overlooking the square, very welcome after the over 30C heat of the day. Breakfast was also a delight, the usual bread, croissant and pain au chocolate were served together with delicious artisan jams of peach and cherry. There was also farmers fresh yogurt and a freshly cooked mini pain perdu with vanilla...truly delicious and we certainly did not need any lunch!! We checked out and continued our road trip very satisfied with our stay at the Lion d’Or.
The bathroom was rather small and in need of updating. Currently has a bath with overhead shower. To make better use of the room space, I would recommend removing the large bath and replacing with a walk-in shower, giving more room around the toilet area.
Lovely hotel in town center. Interesting breakfast with lovely fresh orange juice and some of the owners special treats.
