We have visited Hampi as our last family trip on our India stay and decided to spend them in a bit more child-friendly resort. Vijayshree resort sounded promising and looked good in its performance on booking.com. Even here, the reviews are misleading. Having arrived there, the first impression was good so far: 1. A huge space for kids to run around. 2. Nice huts with all necessities, even though the bathrooms are totally run down and are old in style. 3. But that's it actually: Soon after, the big disappoint started. We were literally waiting for a tea after unpacking for an hour and needed to follow up twice till we received it in our rooms. From then onwards and throughout our stay we realized how poorly this Jain resort is organized, managed and actually performs on its non-existent hospitality - especially towards kids and our 20 months old toddler. In many points we didn't like the resort: I have witnessed a service staff member shouting heavily at a woman cleaning the dishes outside. It happened during the day and in front of the guests. - Breakfast is only Indian food and you keep waiting for more as it has never been enough at the same time. Not delicious anyway. No highchair in the entire property by the way. - Last but not least, a complaint has not changed anything. It has rather worsened their attitude towards us a family and they kept dropping the phone when we called for something. In the end we simply happy to leave this place and not come back. Under the bottom line, a resort should be a temporary shelter and refuge for travelers. We paid a good amount, but simply felt we were more a burden for an incapable team and management. No hospitality, no service, and no warmness. Not recommendable, especially for families and kids!
Here are only a few points which are appalling: - The desk staff doesn't understand English properly, pretends to do so and takes whatever order you give for food wrongly or just ignores it. You are wondering half an hour later what happened to your order and realize they actually haven’t taken action. In the final bill, they try to charge you on the order which you actually never received in the end. Often they would just drop the phone or not even pick up your calls. - The way to the huts is quite long and as a family after a long day out, you might need their car service to your hut. The driver makes you wait for 15 minutes until he is finally ready to bring you to your room and shows you an unfriendly attitude for having asked for this service. If you don’t end up walking the distance anyway. And even at night this car is quite loud and keeps bringing the late arrivals to their rooms. All in all a very disturbing setup. They could use an electric car as it has to keep driving around in this so-called eco-friendly, vegetarian resort (which is by the way not mentioned anywhere in the descriptions of th - Another odd fact is that they have refused to provide me an ashtray as it is a Jain resort. As a result, you would find cigarettes on the grass areas and elsewhere - again not very child-friendly. - One evening I have pre-ordered and explained the dinner meal for our son for our return after a full day out to Hampi. They have not prepared anything by 18.30 and were too busy to take immediate action and prepare some noodles. Took them roughly an hour to prepare some noodles. My explanations that our boy is tired and needs something quickly remained unheard. He went to sleep without dinner and kept waking up at night. Obviously hungry after a long day in Hampi. We thought we were well prepared by pre-ordering, but that was too much for their staff.
Surroundings were well manicured. Nice pool.
Very understaffed by untrained interns who did their best but were pushed to the edge because of constantly having to tell client that things were unavailable. No soda, no tea (It's India for pity's sake!) just as an example. I will be following this up with the seemingly very young and inexperienced owner.
Staff was terribly trained. They couldn’t find the booking from booking.com. They took so long for delivering anything to the room and one staff actually slammed the phone down.
Both Location and food
The breakfast was up to my requirements
The swimming pool is lovely, but lacks basic equipment (almost no sunbeds). Distance from Hampi is fine, a few kilometers but easily done with a rickshaw.
The place is quite pretentious, pretending to be luxury but lacking some basic elements (poor lighting in rooms, lack of sunbeds near the pool...) Breakfast is very average. And the overall atmosphere is weird. What really annoyed us was the attitude of staff and management. Despite sleeping one night at the hotel (and having arrived quite late on the day of our check-in), we had to literally beg and negotiate for the hotel staff to give us some complimentary wifi access after our check-out (they ended us giving us 30 min access) so that we could check our train schedule for that same night. We also had to pay again to wait by the pool for a couple of hours after our check-out, as our train was late at night. Frankly, we found this very unfriendly.
