Top tips for finding the perfect Honolulu hotel

If you’re looking for a 5-star hotel in Honolulu, then your best bet is searching in Waikiki, which has a large selection of luxury hotels right by the beach, including The Royal Hawaiian, a Luxury Collection Hotel. The Waikiki area has the largest concentration of hotels in the city, so you can still find a good deal in this area, as long as a short walk to the beach doesn’t bother you.
For cheap hotels in Honolulu, you can try Pagoda Hotel in Ala Moana or the Aston at the Executive Centre Hotel in Kaka’Ako. Keep in mind, however, you will likely have to sacrifice a beachfront view, and options in these areas are somewhat limited, despite being budget-friendly. These areas are a little closer to attractions like the Aloha Stadium and Honolulu Zoo, but a little further inland from the beachfront hotels and resorts in Waikiki.
Salt Lake is the closest neighborhood to Honolulu International Airport, but if you also want to visit the city center, keep in mind that the popular neighborhoods of Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu are within a 20-minute drive from the airport by way of the Queen Liliuokalani Freeway. If you need accommodations close to the airport, the Best Western The Plaza Hotel is reasonably priced and has an outdoor pool.
If you need to get from hotels in Waikiki Beach to the Honolulu Zoo or other attractions in Honolulu, you can hire a car or use the city’s bus service. Known to locals as TheBus, there are 100 different routes, so it is possible to get just about anywhere in the city, no matter which hotel you end up booking. The Surfjack Hotel & Swim Club and the Ohana Waikiki Malia by Outrigger are hotels very close to bus stations in the Waikiki area.
