The hotel is very comfortable. The dinner included was also fabulous. I love the little garden.
The hotel staff are nice and very helpfully. But they speak very little English. Communication was difficult.
Room is too small for a family of four. The dining area is just like a school canteen without any privacy at all. Especially when we had our breakfast, there was a tour group of some 25 people from China seating next to you. It was noisy and messy.
Lovely view of the immaculate garden from the room and great outdoor onsen
Musky smell in the room probably due to dampness and tatami. Quite far from Kofu station (20 mins bus ride) so quite inconvenient traveling with heavy luggage. Would be fine if driving.
I stayed 2 night 1st day many people stayed 1st day dinner is relatively poor but 2nd day is good Hotel' s manager and reception are very kind always
The property is relatively close to Shosenkyo Gorge - we made the drive in about 20 minutes. The staff is incredibly gratitude and courteous! At 8:00 PM, the lobby area turns into a lounge for karaoke and serves spirits and beer, which we really liked. The breakfast is worth the ¥1000 yen - it included regional hoto udon, rice, salmon, tofu, fruit, and vegetables! Onsens are clean and relaxing - ryokan has indoor and outdoor for female, as well as males,....and they switch sides daily so that each get use of the hotter sauna. Food is provided on the lanai to feed the koi fish in the garden pond. Ryokan has ample, free parking.
Interior is dated, but we commonly find this for older, traditional ryokans. If you want one that is pristine, then go to a modern ryokan that is pricier. Garden pond is murky, much unlike the clear water we typically encounter for koi ponds. The fish and turtles don’t seem to care, though. The garden was also a little unkempt for Japanese standards. You’ll need to take a cab from Kofu Station since it is a bit of a distance, but we drove so not an issue for us.
With a stay at Yanagiya in Kofu, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Maizuru Castle and Entakuji Temple. This 4-star ryokan is 11.1 mi (17.8 km) from Hottarakashi Onsen Hot Spring and 1.5 mi (2.5 km) from Hosen-ji Temple.
