They had female dorms.
We felt really uncomfortable in this hostel. It didn't feel very clean. There was no hot or even warm water when we had shower and it was only around 9-10 pm. There was no staff around after 9 pm. There was no lockers for storing valuables. There wasn't much around the accommodation.
This is a super cheap hostel in Kyoto, great for backpackers on a real shoestring. The bathrooms and kitchen were great.
Beds didn't have the privacy curtains so many hostels have now, or lockers easily available to each guest in or near the room. Staff could be friendlier, have more information on hand about busses serving the neighbourhood.
The location was good, especially if you are arriving into Kyoto main station. There are some supermarkets nearby also. Wifi was good throughout. The shower rooms were really good and powerful. It only costs ¥100 to wash your clothes. Sliders are provided to wear inside as you must take your shoes off. There is a large fridge freezer to store your own food and an equipped kitchen. Lots of info on the walls about things to do and see in Kyoto.
Overall I think the hostel could do with a refurbishment. In my dorm the bottom bunk of the bunk bed was just a mattress on the floor. It was a bit horrible sleeping in the dark corner of the room on the floor. This was also not great as the carpet and the room generally smelt quite old (though clean!). Check-in time is a lot later than I am used too - 4pm. 2pm would have been better. Staff had limited English but were friendly enough.
They were very sweet and they let us leave our luggage before check-in and also after check-out!
The room was very small, it had four bedrooms and we discovered that there were five people there! Two of them, sleeping together it seems, were members of the staff. It was kind of uncomfortable.
It’s the cheapest hostel in Kyoto! TV in each room! Awesome!
