Overview

Beside a park near the centre of Magdeburg, the Best Western Hotel Geheimer Rat, Magdeburg, Germany, is a tranquil hotel with antique-furnished rooms, cable TV, free coffee and mineral water through the day, a daily breakfast buffet, free Wi-Fi, charging points for electric cars, and secure indoor bicycle parking. A green park lies right outside and the city centre is close by, with the Elbe and the cathedral within easy reach. Quiet residential streets surround the hotel. Magdeburg is the riverside capital of Saxony-Anhalt, an old trading city on the Elbe with more than a thousand years of history. Its towering cathedral, the oldest Gothic cathedral in Germany, holds the tomb of Emperor Otto the Great, the colourful Green Citadel by the artist Hundertwasser brightens the centre, and riverside parks and promenades line the broad Elbe. Boat trips and cycle paths follow the river out of town and into the green countryside.
