The decision on whether or not to rent a car often comes down to your plans while you are in Mallorca. If you only plan on staying in one location, like a great beach, you most likely don't have a need for a rental car. If, however, you plan on doing extensive traveling throughout the island, having a rental car is a great option because it allows you to get to a number of destinations on your own schedule rather than having to use very expensive taxis or waiting for public transportation options.

In Mallorca, drivers drive on the right side of the road, and because there are quite a few narrow roads here, it is always a great idea to get a smaller car if possible. Locals here can't get a little bit impatient when driving, so don't be surprised by drivers overtaking you. Because this is a smaller island, it is never going to take long to get from place to place but be aware that when you leave the main roads, you're going to encounter very narrow roads some of which are not paved. On some of the more mountainous roads, you may find very little protection at the side of the road and very steep dropoffs.
