Excellent sized room and good quality bed
Bedroom furniture rather shabby and shower cubicle needed updating
•Bed and pillows reasonably comfortable •the area was excellent to get to places so is ideally placed. •when I complained about neighbour the staff were quick to move me without my even having to request it. •bathroom and shower were clean. •good check out time.
•blood on one of my pillows. •blood on one of my towels •noisy outside although this is New York... •Extremely thin walls in hotel so very noisy inside. •had to move rooms due to noisy neighbour who kept me up literally all night. •Pretty sure the shower on my side of the floor did not work. •lamp in room didn't work. •bathroom and shower could do with upgrading as very dated.
The location isn't to bad and the area is certainly nice. The ethos of the place and the assistance they provide to people in need is great this maybe is the reason for the dilapidation of the fixtures, fittings and furniture as they are are helping more people.
It is all a lot older, more dated, worn and shabbier than we ever expected. It served a purpose for us and we were there only a few hours in all honesty if we'd been there more than a night we would genuinely been upset. It isn't really somewhere you'd want to spend your time which you could say works in terms of getting out there sightseeing and doing things but really handing money over for a place where you feel unsure you can touch anything isn't great.
There was a roach that fell on me as I was walking out the hotel room
The place was clean, though it seems that the building is quite old. Hassle-free check in. The location is superb!
The AC keeps making noise (especially if you turn the cool on high). Lucky enough it's autumn when I was there and the weather is cool so I didn't need the AC.
Tucked away in the Union Square neighborhood of New York City, Seafarers International House is a harbor of hospitality, conveniently located one block away from major subway lines. Rooms are extended to seafarers, international and domestic travelers, and church groups, as well as students and clergy. The rooms are simple, clean, safe, and available for short stays at a modest cost with helpful staff available 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Though Seafarers International House’s Nordgren Chapel is a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, all religions and denominations are welcome to stay. Rooms are clean and tidy with a touch of personal charm and the hotel features amenities such as air conditioning, makeup service, cable television, telephone, free WiFi in public spaces, coffee, laundry service, private or shared bathrooms, ice and vending machines, and computers available for use. All beds are single beds, with a maximum room occupancy of two people.
Seafarers International House was founded in 1873 by the Augustana Lutheran Church as a mission to Swedish seafaring people in the Port of New York. Shortly thereafter, its prime goal was to serve as a mission to both Swedish seafarers immigrants. In 1987, Seafarers International House became an affiliated mission of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. By staying here, the room revenue from each guest’s stay helps to support their mission of caring for seafarers and migrants who are often at sea for months and thereby put at risk of depression, abuse, piracy, and accidents.
