Breakfast not included. Staff friendly and cheerful. My single room without en-suite was upgraded to double with en-suite, which was great, and when I friend, for whom I had booked a single room, also had her husband accompany her, the hotel agreed to just charge the extra for the double room, as they had them available. Many thanks!
The rooms were quite dark, with tiny bathrooms, and my room stank of cigarettes! (the lobby area by the front desk also smelled a little of cigarettes) As we arrived late in the evening, by the time I got to the front desk, the staff were packing up, so I ended up staying in the room. Also the central lightbulb didn't work. When I took it to the front desk on the second night, to ask for another, they didn't have any! (I would also recommend that the Victoria hotel got with the 21st century and used low energy bulbs - they would also save themselves fuel costs.) TV control was difficult, as you had to move forward or back thro channels, rather than typing in a number - e.g. instead of putting in "13", I had to forward a channel 12 times. This was also the only way to see what was on each channel.
We didn't eat at the hotel it was clean And fine for what we needed would book with an ensuite in the future
Should have booked a room with a bathroom. Nice crisp white sheets.
Friendly helpful people .... Basic accomodation but very clean ....
It was cheap
It was a small and okay room. The bed linen was nice and fresh. There was plenty of hanging space.
There was a very strong smell of damp in the room, a mouldy wall and a bright security lamp shining straight at the window. The window could have done with a lace curtain or obscure glass windows as there was not enough room to change clothes in the bathroom.
With a stay at Victoria Hotel in Newport, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Friars Walk Newport and Newport Cathedral. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Self parking (subject to charges) is available onsite.
