The location is in a nice quiet neighborhood. The Hotel is a funky conversion of an old school, with creaky wood floors, old steam radiators hanging on the walls and lots of fun places to explore.

We had a King size bed in a room that would have been much better with a Queen. No seating except for two chairs around a very small table. The table was too small to be used as a desk for anything larger than a tablet or very small laptop. The room was defiantly not designed for business travelers eve though I was there to attend a business meeting/symposium.

Loved the historic nature of the accommodations, the bars (The Detention and Boiler Room), outdoor spa, our sunny room (#112) and walking/biking distance to restaurants and markets.

    Noisy neighbors.

Kennedy school is so unique, it was fun to stay somewhere that had so many things to do. The drinks and atmosphere in the boiler room pub after dinner in the courtyard was great.

We stayed in the English wing and the rooms are very small with little in them. We ordered breakfast before we had to leave for the airport in the morning and had nowhere to eat or put the plates, there’s no table or trays or anything. Really cramped space with only two adults. It’s also very loud, you can hear everyone around you, so we didn’t sleep well. The food is ok at best.

The building is fantastic. Pretty cold in the room, but the space heater got it warmed up while I was at the movie. The room itself had everything needed & furnished in the traditional McMenamins style. My room had a bit of outside street/car noise but was mostly covered with the space heater white-noise. There are likely other rooms further from the main traffic flow. I loved it all the same.

Just a bit of street noise as above

About

Overview

Portland is a unique town and McMenamin’s Kennedy School certainly reflects that. Previously an old elementary school, the Kennedy School stays true to its name and offers guests a quirky stay in the heart of Portland.

The rooms are very unique and stay to true to the building’s original purpose. All rooms have a schoolhouse feeling and some even feature original chalkboards and cloakrooms. All rooms come with a private shower and free Wi-Fi.

The food offerings at Kennedy School are very classic, much like its décor. The Courtyard Restaurant serves typical pub fare and the highlight of this particular eatery is its cozy outdoor seating. The Cypress Room entertains customers with reggae music and décor features international rums as well as full meals or small bites. The Kennedy School also has not one, not two, but four bars of varying themes including the Kennedy School Theater Bar that offers regular bar eats and beer in addition to regular theatre dining such as popcorn and candy.

The Kennedy School has taken full advantage of its unique location by transforming the old school’s auditorium into a movie theatre. It is also very close to the Alberta Arts District as well as several shopping centers. Guests are never far away from discovering the magic of Portland.

Other amenities within the hotel include a heated saltwater soaking pool, free bike rentals, meeting rooms, room service, and a hot tub. Pets are also welcome to stay at the hotel. McMenamin’s Kennedy School is the premier place to stay and explore Portland.
