We booked a room titled “special view room” and it was. It was laid out like a small apartment minus the kitchen stuff. Amazing view. Bedding was top quality. Walked from there down the river about 2 hours and caught a taxi back. Good stuff. Nice city.
Street performers below till midnight but it was Saturday night. Not too loud.
Stayed at this Holiday Inn only for a night. There are two in Tianjin if I'm correct, but I chose this one for its location as I just needed one place to rest with my wife and toddler. It's near the Tianjin Eye (5 minute walk on the riverside which itself is a great attraction) and close to the train station (10 min from cab) from which I hopped on a high speed rail to Beijing. Food: even though it's really close to the old town and some touristic destinations I found the immediate surroundings a bit empty by night. There was a KFC and some chinese live bar restaurant down the corner but overall not many food options if you don't want to eat at the hotel. There is one convenience store at the lobby but it's a self-service kind of one, and you need Wechat Pay or Alipay to use it. Since I didn't have it I had to buy water and snacks at this hole in the wall shop around the corner. Breakfast had both chinese and 'western' options, with good variety specially on the chinese side. About the room: spacious, had a cool view of the river/bridges but opposite of the Tianjin Eye. Bathroom was great.
Room felt clean, but even though it was a non-smoking room, as everywhere else I've been to in China, someone smoked inside so pillows and chairs had that stank (not much though). That'd be my main criticism of the hotel: you'd find cigars on the ground in all common areas so apart from the room itself everywhere seemed a bit unclean.
The rooms are very spacious, the service was good, and the view from the room is spectacular. It is next to the Tianjin Eye, and one can walk on the HaiHe River promenade and easily find their way towards the highlights of the city.
The furniture and overall room style is a bit worn-out and out of fashion. When we arrived, the temperature was very high and there was an intense smell of chemicals. We had to turn the ventilation off and leave the window open to get rid of it.
I was really lucky to choose this hotel. In China few people speak English, and thanks to the staff of the hotels because they helped me to communicate with local people. Joe gave me his personal contact and helps me for everything in the city and in the hotel. I had some health problem so I asked Joe to prepare some special health food that was not in the menu and it was really good and support me. When I had some problem Jason came with me in the pharmacy and help me for talking with pharmacist in Chinese. Every body was helping me, I felt at home in this Hotel. And the rooms are really wonderful and cheap.
Everything was perfect, nothing to tell
Clean and spacious room
nearby not many convenient stores and eateries
