10.0 Excellent
Pros: The kindness of the staff. All very helpful and went the extra mile.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The Staff were the high-point of the visit. The visit was off-season in a tourist town, so it was quiet, but far from dead. The Bar was the only place in town that was buzzing. They were in the middle of a Winter renovation, so the room was freshly painted (no smell). This is a long-time Family owned hotel with very genuine care and visible attention to detail. Although everyone was kind and welcoming, we were both grateful to Louise (owner & manager) and Orla, a happy whirlwind in Reception, the Bar, and serving Breakfast the following morning. No Corporate Conduct Manual here, the whole package far exceeds my picky expectations. They all were happy to cater for my dietary preferences, something that many other establishments not only ignore, but refuse to cater for. Stunning scenery, smiling happy staff, NOT another rip-off hotel!!
Cons: They tick all the boxes.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful. We had gorgeous sea views on a beautiful December day! Would highly recommend it!
5.0 Okay
Cons: On our 2nd morning, the person serving us breakfast was sullen, unfriendly, and frankly off-putting in her attitude and demeanour. This is unacceptable, we were paying guests and were not treated with the level of professionalism we should have been afforded. The lady serving us our first morning breakfast was fine, helpful , courteous and efficient, but the subsequent morning was shamefully disappointing(to make matters worse, I suspect that this person is one of the co-owners, but have no definitive proof of this).
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Service was excellent. Having a store close by was awesome.
Cons: There was a humming sound throughout the night. I think it came from a nearby service closet.

Overview Reviews

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice accommodation, clean, comfortable, good breakfast, ocean view, great choice of food, friendly owner.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent for our purpose. The evening meal and the breakfast were top notch both from a quality and choice perspective. The room was spacious and the facilities were as expected, very functional.
Cons: The rooms were prone to external noise, disturbance and the sound of general commotion. To be specific a generator and pump like mechanism droned loudly at various times during the night. It could be clearly heard in the room. Other occupants or persons in the guesthouse making noise in corridors or other rooms could be clearly heard in the room. These matters interfered with the general comfort of the paying guest and disturbed sleep.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: If you are playing golf at Waterville or just want. great beachfront location this is the place to stay, great fish restaurant with fresh lobster and other specials. There is a residents lounge on the first floor with a great view down the beach.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: While the rooms are a little dated the views are amazing. It was the meal i had that evening that really blew me away. Best food i have had in a LOOOOOOOONNG time. And the waiter from Donegal is a complete dote.
Cons: The TV is very small in the rooms and the bathroom was quite cramped

Pros: This was our second time returning to the old cable house and it's still as wonderful as before! Great value for money, warm and cozy and we were given such a warm welcome! It's central and close to all restaurants and shops! Thank you so much Margaret and Alan! Until we meet again... Ps. Anyone reading this.. You've got to have the pancakes for breakfast ...absolutely delish!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff breakfast location to restaurants views in town of sea
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent, Scrambled egg and Smoked Salmon - delicious and generous portions
5.0 Okay
Pros: It would have been helpful to know in advance that their restaurant wasn’t operational. The website still advertises its seafood and we were looking forward to the meal.
5.4 Okay
Pros: the hostess was great /
Cons: the host, i'm assuming the husband, was lecturing us about " trying to run a business"- his demeanor was uncomfortable
6.6 Good
Pros: It was close to where we needed to be. It was very classic on the inside and clean - the bed linens were beautiful!! It is within walking distance of stores and restaurants - the town is lovely.
Cons: The rooms are not terribly sound-proof and could use some work (to be expected - it is an older house). We found the owner to be friendly and helpful, but at times a little too in your face and wanting to be helpful. Some people might like that but we are a little more private.
4.0 Okay
Pros: staff courtesy and friendly.
Cons: my reservation was not "confirmed" at hotel, is not an hotel but a B&B, I was accommodated on a different room (respect the one that I have reserved), the bathroom in the "new" room was not ensuite (differently from my reservation)
5.2 Okay
Pros: There was a delicious breakfast and the staff was very friendly. The bathroom was quite big.
Cons: The rooms were a little bit small, so there was not much room for the suitcases.
6.8 Good
Pros: the friendlyness and the staff couldn't do enough for us
Cons: extension was not complete no covering on dining room floor and fitting not finished
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The b&b was lovely, as were the owners. Couldnt do enough for us and it was really close to the centre of Waterville. We ate 3 lovely meals each night in Waterville. All walking distance of the Old Cable House.
6.4 Good
Pros: The Landlady was ever so helpfull and couldn't do enough to make our stay pleasant
Cons: The drainage replacement outside the hotel was noisey at 7.30 in tghe morning but was through no fault of the hotel and will no doubt be finished by now
3.6 Mediocre
Pros:
Cons: The welcome to the b&b was somewhat unusual, the receptionist did not introduce himself, merely silently escorted me to a door which ultimately was the bedroom. When asked about activities in the area, he had no information to offer. The orange juice for breakfast seemed to be diluted concentrate from a tin
5.6 Okay
Pros: Bedroom was comfortable. Proprieter friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good - variety of menu plus something different to the norm e.g. smoked salmon and poached eggs, pancakes with fruit - delicious!
Cons: No television or tea/coffee making facilities in room. T&C was available on request free of charge
2.8 Mediocre
Pros: not a lot
Cons: we belived it to be a hotel it turned out to be a b&b

Pros: Real charm to the old schoolhouse. very comfortable bedroom, excellent wifi and fantastic shower after a long days out exploring. The location is just breathtaking with endless amounts to see and do regardless of the weather. The place was made even more charming by the hosts who are so friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts were our favourite time with magic shows for my daughter, stories from times past and even a morning song from the host. Who wouldn't love a stay here, very memorable. We had great fun. Thank you.
Cons: Not much in local area for eating out late off season

Pros: The hospitality was wonderful, we felt right at home. The Irish breakfast was an unexpected bonus as well!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Charming property, easy to find with a nice blend of “remote & quiet” and within minutes of where we wanted to be. We primarily interacted with Dominick (host) who was friendly & very helpful. We would love to stay here again & wish we could have spent more time at this location. We left early the next morning for a landing tour of Skellig Michael. Dominick gave us wonderful directions (about 20 min. drive) and he woke up early to provide a quick breakfast of hot tea/coffee, toast & butter/jam, cereal & fruit. Our 3 teenage daughters are STILL talking about Dominick’s magic tricks, riddles & stories! THANK YOU for your wonderful Irish hospitality!
