We stayed for 2 nights in the cottage. The cottage is spacious for 5 of us. It's a bit of a drive from the town centre but it was worth it. The place is beautiful.
Like this family cottage so cozy and can park the the car right in front of it The staff is very friendly and nice though we do not speak the same language
It’s for me an idyllic location in the middle of nowhere in the woods. If you want to see monkeys in the wood, just walk tat twilight o the big hotel where you’ll check in; it might be a 5 minute or a half hour walk; you’ll see lots. Hotaka is a lovely little place, the Wasabi farm is awesome and the Hotel provide a shuttle bus. Bus, walk and rent bikes in Hotaka and you won’t need a car. The scenery around Hotaka is just beautiful: paddy fields with snow capped mountains reflected in them, little old farmers tending cute little fields etc....
My daughters left a day early and headed back to Tokyo; there was “nothing to do and horror of horrors, NO WIFI (except in the hotel) One day it rained and was cold in May. I read a book with a jumper on. There’s something odd about the heating. One day it was very hot but I couldn’t find the air con. The cabins are a little tired and of course there are beasties in the woods. The knife was blunt. Accept these things and expect tranquility and you’ll be fine. Oh the walks through the woods are not quite as extensive as expected but walk to Hotaka and get the bus back. I took some great photos on that walk.
Located in the park so can be difficult to find if you arrive at night. Not well lit and depend on the cottages you are allocated. We have a great time staying 2 nights can be cold in earlier season. The onsen was great and we enjoy it. Would definitely consider for the next visit.
We allocated a unit up on a slope and we need to drag up our luggage in a rainy drizzle so not the most pleasant start. Need a car unless you prefer to be isolated
Great beautiful mountain location. Loved the bath in the cottage. Tatami family room and Kotatsu was perfect for playing games with our family.
