I was born in Bad Berleburg and our family moved to Canada in 1954. We came here to visit with family and to enjoy the beautiful town and surroundings. The breakfasts were generally very good and traditional, with lots of breads, buns, cold cuts, cheeses, eggs done to your preference, etc. With my cousin and his wife we saw a lot of the picturesque area and some that had special family significance. I'm a biologist and was particularly excited as the nearby wilderness park is now home to Germany's only free roaming herd of European bison (Wisent.) Also, we really enjoyed the tour of the palace, Schloss Berleburg which is a short walk from the hotel.
The hotel, rooms and furnishings are very dated. That's not unreasonable given its age and how difficult it would be to update it. Floors were very springy and squeaky. It was a bit disconcerting that the room door is locked with a key from the inside. If there was an emergency in the middle of the night it would be a real trick to get out quickly if you had to fumble for a key, in the dark, half asleep to unlock he door. That's probably something they should update asap. On our second day, there was not nearly as much variety in the breakfast fare compared to the previous day. Not a huge issue but noticeable. At that time there were only two other ladies having breakfast at the hotel and so not as much food was being put out.
The breakfast was good. Good location centrally in the city. Nice study of building from outside. Clean
The worse we’re beds: too short and uncomfortable
