Location and the style was great.
We went into our room and it was very warm. We noticed a sign in the wall not to adjust the heating but to contact reception if we wanted it changed. I find 0 on the phone, as instructed and asked if the heating could be turned down, the receptionist said yes. Approximately 60 minutes later, I felt the radiator, it’s was still too hot to touch. I rang again, only to be told that it had been put down to 18, I explained that I couldn’t even touch the radiator, the guy said it will take a while to cool down, I had already waited 60 minutes! I asked if it could be lowered, he said the only option was off, I said fine. He did explain that it might be chilly in the morning, to which I replied, that is fine, I couldn’t sleep in that heat anyway. The radiator was still hot a hour later so I had to open the inner window and the door to the room to chill it down. I woke up at approx 1 am and the radiator was cold, my partner woke up at 3.30am and it was boiling hot again! It wasn’t a pleasant night at all, which was a shame as the hotel itself was lovely.
Cobwebs in room, never stopped at a hotel where earplugs are supplied for noise! All in all very tired property
Room was very clean and staff were friendly. Great location and considering we were next to a main road, we could not hear any traffic noise at all. I would definitely stay again.
Hotel is a little dated, however for what we paid it was good value. Food prices were a little expensive and if offers were on we would have eaten at the hotel.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Great location for the city centre attractions.
The ground floor bedrooms in the ‘new’ part of the hotel are a bit tired and this annexe of the hotel is quite hard to access. The breakfast buffet was very basic and the tea was far too strong to drink.
A warm welcome and traditional hospitality awaits guests at the Plough and Harrow Hotel in Edgbaston, Birmingham. The red brick Victorian architecture of the original building together with the large garden, lawns and plentiful car parking serves to set the Plough & Harrow Hotel apart from other Birmingham hotels. Built in 1704, originally as a wayside inn, the hotel has over the centuries become steeped in history and is recalled by many as being one of the most popular places to stay in Birmingham during the 1980's & early 1990's and was the Egon Ronay hotel of the year in 1984. The restaurant was renowned as the place to dine at lunch and dinner and the hotel was regularly frequented by celebrities, politicians and personalities of the time. Unfortunately from the mid 1990's the hotel suffered from a lack of investment from a number of corporate owners and it changed ownership several times. In 2010 the hotel returned to private ownership for the first time in 50 odd years and TTM Partnership LLP, the new owners, commenced a gradual plan of phased investment & refurbishment which is expected to take up to 10 years to complete and will ultimately cover all areas of the property. The ultimate aim is to return the hotel its historic position as a good quality, independent boutique hotel in Birmingham and being the hotel of choice for corporate & leisure travelers, wedding receptions, local functions & events as well as an everyday place to enjoy lunch, dinner or afternoon tea's. When the existing public areas & bedrooms are refurbished consideration will be given to expand the hotel and possibly include a spa & beauty facility although this is likely to be around 2020 onwards.
