Wonderful 150 year old ryokan. If you are looking for a traditional Japanese inn, this is it. I had a huge room ( I believe thru are all very large). I used thr ladies public bath several times. I also had a cedar bath in my room that used hot spring water - so if you want a more personal experience that’s also possible. The kaiseki set meal was exquisite- but just too much for me to eat! They have a good list of drinks to compliment your food. Obviously, the surrounding area has become built up since it was built. But the Japanese garden is lovely. I took a taxi from Futsukaichi station, it was 800yen - around US$9. Not worth trying to walk with luggage.
Food was great, staff was nice, bath was nice! The surrounding area was also charming as it was more of a small town, a good change of pace from the big cities.
It was kind of far away from a station so a little out of the way to get to (either a 15 minute walk from the closest station or a bus ride).
Nice Japanese garden and a decent location with prominent street frontage.
Food is not at all to our tastebuds and food menu does not have English translation given that they would have know of our nationality when we make booking. Weird layout with toilet and bathroom at opposite ends of the room. there is no hand soap at the toilet and had to walk across the room to wash my hands.
It is a very much Japanese style hotel to enjoy Japanese hospitality and experience. The staff were extremely hospitable and friendly. The Japanese garden is so beautiful. And the food is excellent.
We arrived around 12:30pm, and had to wait until 3:00pm to check in even the room is ready. In fact we were told the check-in time when booking was 2:00-3:00pm. Most hotels allow checking in before 3:00pm when a room is available. Perhaps they can be more flexible, especially for foreign travelers coming from airport without any other place to go.
The food, the quality of the room, the service by the staff.m and the garden
Not located in a beautiful place.
