If you are taking the Durango to Silverton train, this is place to say. Only a short (2 1/2 blocks) walk from the hotel to the train station. We had a king suite on the first floor next to the pool. It gave us easy access to the pool, breakfast area and bar for the nightly happy hour. The room was large and comfortable for our 2 night stay even with the window at ground level with the back parking lot. There's lots of noise due to being next to the pool but that is closed at 9 PM so you can get a restful night's sleep. The breakfast spread was plentiful but the breakfast room gets really warm with a lot of people. The main part of Durango is walking distance from the hotel. You may not need to rent a car to get around unless this is just one stop on your journey like it was ours. Our draw back from staying here again is the large high rise building going up next to the hotel. It really hides the Best Western.

Opt for an Indoor Room
When booking, inquire about indoor rooms to avoid the inconvenience of accessing outdoor rooms through the inside elevator, especially if carrying a lot of luggage.
Consider Noise Levels
If seeking a quieter experience, inquire about rooms facing outwards, as rooms facing the indoor atrium with the pool and spa were reported to be noisy during the day.
Check Room Location
If noise is a concern, request a room away from the pool atrium to avoid potential disturbances from pool activities and noise.
Inquire About Construction
Before booking, check with the hotel about any ongoing construction near the hotel to avoid potential disturbances during the stay.
Verify Room Type
Ensure that the room type selected meets expectations, as some guests found the rooms to be smaller than anticipated.
Consider Room Layout
Be aware that the hotel has a unique layout with some room entrances outside the building and some inside around the pool, which may impact noise levels and privacy.
Parking Considerations
Be prepared for potentially hectic parking situations, especially during peak times, and consider this when planning arrival and departure times.
Manage Expectations for Amenities
While the hotel offers a range of amenities, such as a pool and hot tub, be aware that the indoor pool area may not offer much privacy and can impact the atmosphere in surrounding guest rooms.
Check Cleaning Standards
Some guests reported issues with cleanliness, so it may be beneficial to communicate any concerns directly with the staff to ensure a comfortable stay.
Inquire About Dining Options
If expecting a traditional bar experience, clarify the operating hours and offerings to align expectations with the hotel's bar services.
