I have stayed here before and wanted to show my family a real ryokan with an onsen. I'm sad to say, I was very disappointed, even though some things have improved. One positive I must mention is that the food was absolutely incredible.
The staff... They are rude, and I also experienced this last time, however it seems to have become worse. We were literally chased around the place by the receptionist demanding that we pay right away rather than at check out, which ruined our last morning staying there. We were made to feel like criminals or something by this person. In addition, when we checked in we had to wait in our room a long to wait for the staff to welcome us and introduce us. Again, time wasted and I think it just seemed like they did not really respect us or our time. When the staff came to make our beds, they did not say anything to us at all, just came into the room and chatted between themselves. Again, I found this very rude and quite unlike the level of service and politeness I would expect in a hotel/ryokan, and especially in Japan. Aside from the poor service and unfriendliness of the staff, the place itself has definitely aged in the few years since I last visited. The outdoor walls need a paint, the room in places looks a little tired, and the salt has built up in the onsen. I think the "love" is missing here and they only now care about making money, and making sure they get paid. In all, I would not really recommend this experience, especially given the price, you should try elsewhere.
Modern ryokan with private outdoor bath as well as indoor bathroom. Great dining experience.
Really expensive. Limited meal times.
Fuji Onsenji Yumedono has a unique atmosphere and provides an authentic Japanese experience situated in an old fashioned building with a private Onsen, a special breakfast experience and nice traditional guestrooms.
We were unable to make a dinner reservation as it has to be made 5 days in advance.
The staff were excellent and always friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast and Kaisecki dinner were an absolute highlight. The grounds of the hotel were magnificent and we absolutely loved having our own private onsen. We wanted to try a traditional Japanese Ryokan - in honesty it wasn't for us, but we really enjoyed the experience for a couple of nights and would highly recommend giving it a go. There is a nice restaurant just around the corner which was called charcoal dining, and this was away from the tourist traps on the main Street. It's a good location for the bus to Fuji's 5th station.
Not being offered water or a drinks menu with the meal was a little disappointing.
Fantastic experience. The staff was so nice and helpful. The room is spacious and nice.
With a stay at Fuji Onsenji Yumedono in Fujikawaguchiko, you'll be in a national park, steps from Lake Kawaguchi and a 4-minute drive from Fuji-Q Highland. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
