Hallways and rooms in the older section need more of a sound barrier as sound echos through the hallway and I was next to loud neighbors.
Good for Romantic Getaways
My wife and I celebrated our anniversary there. We had our kids with us the first night. The room was comfy and the kids enjoyed the playing the the pool. After dropping off the kids, we had a second night to ourselves. The staff were great and we loved the room.
The pool was cold. I mean, COLD! My daughter's lips turned blue! It didn't stop her from playing, but it really limited me in playing with her in the water.
I was traveling on business for a conference. My outbound flight was canceled due to bad weather, and I wasn't able to get in until the following evening which would make me miss the entire conference. So I called the hotel to explain my circumstances. However, the hotel has a strict no-refund policy no matter the situation. They were completely unwilling to provide a refund, partial refund or even a credit for another stay. Will avoid all Hilton hotels in the future....

A Great Room Is Worth Big Bucks - However...

Every room is definately NOT worth $200/night. When you're in the tower, on the 20th floor & have a beautiful view of the city / river / area it's one thing, but on the Pantlind (old) side - the fourth floor affords you a view of the parking garage across the street, a tiny room with, what feels like, a water closet for a bathroom and barely room to turn around.
Excellent location downtown on Grand River front, very comfortable, top-notch facilities. Good for both luxury leisure travel and business (hotel contains many quality-appearing meeting rooms, plus is integrated with downtown skyway system to convention center, arena, and office buildings). Part of the hotel is a very interesting and elegant historical restoration. Hotel could be OK for families, but seems more oriented toward adults. Overall, an excellent hotel and worth the money.
For some reason, we were told at check-in we wouldn't receive full housekeeping during our weekend stay; instead we got vouchers for hotel food and services. We have no problem using sheets and towels for several days (just like home!), but I thought it strange that a luxury hotel would not have full housekeeping on weekends (I don't know if that was true for all guests, or if there was a special issue that caused it this one time). I marked "value" and "cleanliness" slightly down for this reason. Also, sound deadening in the historic part of the hotel (where we stayed) could be better. There was a fair amount of noise from the hallway and plumbing noise from adjacent rooms.
