very comfortable, welcoming and attractive place
We loved this small hotel nestled into the harbor of Greetsiel, a fishing village in northwest Germany. The tiny town abounds with old buildings and picturesque homes. In fact, Hohes Hotel itself dates back to 1629, I believe. Our room was very spacious and had a sweet view of the canal that is the terminal point for the harbor. The village is quiet, yet has ample shops and eateries. The full breakfast we had at the hotel was excellent, with many choices of pastries, meats and breads to start our day. We were very happy with our choice and we slept soundly (well, my husband did since I had fallen and fractured my leg that day and felt wretched). The bed was big and immensely combortable. This was a great stop in an authentic German town!. We highly recommend it to other travelers.
We somehow thought we had booked a first floor room because our confirmation indicated a first floor room. It turns out that in Europe a first floor room is often what we consider to be a second floor room. I had broken my leg earlier in the day and when we arrived at the hotel, grateful that we had first floor accommodations, we were informed that our room was on the second level. Struggling up a flight and a half of stairway on my backside, in a cast, with crutches at my side was a miserable undertaking. Agony. But the staff were so kind and helpful and even brought us beer to help with ordeals of the day. It was an honest mistake about the hotel floors and no one was to blame for anything. Just turned out to a taxing surprise. We have nothing but good things to say about Hohes Hotel and their staff, their food or their lication. We were very happy there.
Was not possible to park the car close to the hotel.
