Amazing views! Even got upgraded to the VIP Suite! The staff were very attentive and a great help with recommendations of places to eat and things to do!

Everything was perfect

When you come to a place like this, to relax, to re kindle, to explore, to find nirvana, you don’t want to skimp out on all the amazing trimmings that made this stay amazing. The VIP suite was everything promised, and the customer service was phenomenal. Greeted at the ferry by a driver for a private transfer as we venture up the hill an through the island to our villa. Our guests were most helpful and welcoming, introducing us to Altana as well as the rest of what the island has to offer (most of the recommendations we visited and was not disappointed). The view from our room was amazing and yes you can see the sun setting from your own private plunge pool. The VIP suite was large and much larger than we needed. The pool was our favourite place of an evening, to have the boys in the bar bring us cocktails while we watch the sun set just forgetting about life. We loved having a morning swim and then enjoying a large breakfast on our balcony while enjoying the island views. The breakfast was slightly different each day, once with eggs, but considered a continental breakfast. We never finished it all despite our appetites and the morning baked fresh pastries were an absolute treat. For coffee snobs I can say I was happy with the pot of provided coffee even when we would order lattes in addition. On our last day we had a very early transfer so a snack pack of fruit and pastries and juice was left on our room. This was a lovely touch and we certainly enjoyed them over airport food watching the sunrise before leaving this beautiful place. The bathroom was quite unique in a cave style shower/bath, and the toiletries were lovely. The water is not potable in Santorini so stock up on bottles water which is cheaper than petrol here. Altana is right off the walking track which has its pros and its cons. It’s extremely convenient for shops, restaurants, roads, walking trails, ATM’s etc.

The down side to being right off the track is a bit of lack of privacy. Slightly elevated off the path, you can see everyone walking and posing for photographs. The thug that annoyed me most was being next to the church means you have models being photographed in local clothing half a dozen times a day, a few weddings and trespassing tourists and wannabe instacelebrities wanting the perfect pic. This can be seen rom the balcony, kitchen/living and bedroom. Keep the curtains drawn to avoid people looking in or potentially jumping through your windows. The bed was also too hard for my liking, which I found hard mattresses to be common through Europe but wasn’t off putting. We were getting free hydrotherapy in our own pool.

The staff members are so kind! I loved that you could have breakfast in your room and that all the little things (transfers, luggage...etc) are taken care of. They are good people and they seem to love what they do . Out of all our travels for our honeymoon (Italy and Greece) this was BY FAR our favorite accomodation.

Our room had a little bit of a smell whenever we came in from outside :( nothing major but it was definitely noticable.

This is a lovely property to stay at. All the staff are wonderful and very friendly. The position of the hotel is excellent and we had breathtaking views of the Caldera. The position is close to restaurants. Rooms were spacious and contemporary. We will be returning.
