Toshiharu Ryokan

I really enjoyed staying here. The rooms were nice and clean and I had a comfortable sleep, the breakfast was delicious, the amenities were plentiful and the staff were great!

Personally just didn't enjoy sharing the communal toilets but again that's just personal choice but you get over it.

The breakfast was excellent. The location was very good. The staff could not have been more helpful.

There wasn’t a toilet in our room

Toshiharu Ryokan is in a historic property, and has a quaint and beautiful traditional Japanese feel. Walking by the inner courtyard garden each day and relaxing in our tatami room was exactly what we were looking for. It’s the perfect Kyoto experience. The staff were incredibly hospitable and helpful with any questions we had about Kyoto and our luggage. We had daily breakfast at the ryokan, which was amazing. The number of beautiful and delicious dishes was incredible.

The eight guest rooms do not have private bath and bathrooms, and two of each are shared. We barely ran into other guests due to when we were there (Feb 2020), so we didn’t have conflicts, but we were not able to get some of the bath times we wanted. Also, know that the hallway to the bath/bathroom is covered but open, so it was a cold jolt to make a quick trip to the loo. Neither were a problem for us, as it was part of the quaint experience, but someone who needs a private bathroom would not be happy.

What an AMAZING experience! There's no better way to dive into the Japanese traditions than staying at a Ryokan. The Toshiharu Ryokan is a great choice. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast is fantastic. And the Ryokan is well located, close to subway and bus stations. I highly recommend it.

Nothing. You need to know that bathrooms are shared but this is part of a real Ryokan experience.

Everything. The staff were wonderful - helpful, explained Japanese culture, made us feel welcome and made us the best breakfast we've had in Japan. The accommodation is amazing, and very comfortable.
