Rooms at the Volcano Lodge are unique in that each room has a secluded, private terrace with a view of the Arenal Volcano. Additionally, every room gets a desk, coffee maker with Costa Rican coffee, and cable television. Each room features custom furnishings and a cozy rustic feeling with modern influences.

Dining options are influenced by the surroundings. The Sura Bar and Bistro offers a traditional Costa Rican menu with beautiful views of the volcano as well as waterfalls. Sura is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Arenal Lobby Bar is a great place to catch sporting events while enjoying great drinks, good music, and bar snacks. The Thermal Forest Wet Bar: El Chonete has swim-up bar seating as well as dry seating so guests can enjoy a nice cocktail in the thermal waters of the pools. There is ambient lighting, music, secluded pools of varying temperatures.

The Volcano Lodge Hotel and Thermal Experience is completely unique in its proximity to the Arenal Volcano which creates natural hot springs that guests get to soak in and unwind. There is also the opportunity to swim at the base of the La Fortuna Waterfall, go horseback riding through the rainforest, and even watersports like water rafting, canyoneering, and spelunking. Pros:The hotel is set in stunning scenery and the grounds are fantastic it has been very well thought through. Very friendly helpful staff and easy to find. They served some delicious cocktails and they were always made to perfection! I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.
Cons:The only thing that let it down was That the food wasn't really that great. We had different steaks both nights and both times they were over cooked and tough. The breakfast is a buffet and again could just use a bit more attention.

Pros:I cannot say enough about our stay at the Volcano Lodge and Springs. We booked it because the rainy season rates were hard to pass up and because 95% of previous guests rated it Excellent. The room rates were so low that I wondered if the ratings could be true...but I have never had more good things to share about a hotel experience! We stayed in a superior room with an amazing view of Arenal from our porch. The property is designed so that the view from your patio makes you feel like you are at a private villa. All we saw before us was Arenal and lush vegetation. There were people next to us but we never saw or heard them. You couldn't even see where the cars were parked. It was almost total solitude. The room was attractive and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was always warm. Our room was only a short walk from the main pool and mineral springs which was a pleasant surprise. Others will have to walk further but the grounds are so nice that the walk is like a stroll in a garden. I read some reviews that the breakfast was adequate but nothing special. I have no idea what they were talking about! To me it was a wonderful daily brunch. We stayed 4 nights and looked forward to each morning. Most food items stayed the same but how can you complain about having fresh bananas, pineapple, papaya, and watermelon, three different breads for toasting, pancakes, scrambled eggs, rice and beans, sweet plantains, lunch meat and cheese, a waffle station and made to order egg station with 6 toppings for omelets, OJ and Mango / Banana juice, and coffee to pick from? There were also two breakfast breads each day that varied and one or two different Costa Rican hot items each day that included small sausages, chicken or sausages in a creamy tomato sauce, and several types of what they called "hash"…potato based one time and green bean based another. To top it off, the restaurant has a great view of Arenal and the pool / mineral springs area and an attentive and cheerful staff. They even attached their old bananas to a nearby tree each morning to attract birds! The pool was clean and the mineral springs area very relaxing. They just added a second hot springs and bar. The grounds are filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees with a running / walking nature trail that they are just getting going. It was a bit confusing but we loved it…especially watching the intricate world of leaf cutting ants! Bottom line...you will love this place!
