One of the best hotel in this beautiful city !
The location of this property is just slightly out of the central, historic city center, which is perfect. It's a very walkable distance from the train station, but just far enough to be quieter than most hotels in the area. The neat part of the property is that you have to take their funicular from the street level to get up to the hotel. Which means that it has a feeling of privacy and exclusivity that I have rarely experienced with a hotel. Everyone who worked there from the front desk personnel, maids, restaurant workers, bartender all made us feel like V.I.P. guests. They were so helpful. On top of all of this was the breakfast buffet that awaited us in the morning. It was one of the best, most carefully considered menus I have seen in a European hotel. They had everything you could want in the morning, down to a beautiful looking yogurt with muesli and fresh berry concoction that was so tasty. When I booked this property it took a little work to talk my husband into spending the extra money to stay there versus other properties that were less money and closer to the center of the old town area, but he was so glad we stayed there after the first night. He even said it was one of the best bookings I had made on the entire trip! My only regret was that once my husband my that statement, it was too late to extend our stay for another night. Guess what? It's popular, and with good reason!
The signage from the street could be a little clearer to know how to get to the hotel's funicular. Other than that I don't think there was anything we didn't like!
Staff members were courteous and helpful. Property was unique and historic. Location was convenient, quiet and offered picturesque views. (Included) breakfast was extensive.
Some aspects of the room (staircase, bathroom fixtures) showed signs of wear and required modernization. Second bed (pullout sofa/chair) was not a comfortable option.
Staff are professional, and answered all our questions readily. We happened to book the hotel over the weekends and there were weddings going on till late. The hotel informed us upon check in, and even left a bottle of wine to apologise for the inconvenience caused. The view from the hotel was beautiful, and we actually felt excited seeing the majestic grandeur from the city. I would definitely consider it again should i return to Luzern .
that said, it was still slightly noisy at night, because our room was right next to the ballroom and music was played till around 1+ 2am on both nights. I wouldn't say it's the fault of the hotel though, but it would have been perfect if everything ended before midnight so we could get our sleep.
I liked the lift to the ground below. Walking around the city was amazing.
The breakfast could have had more choices and kept longer.
