Pros: We arrived late and were pleased to see the staff left the key for us with simple directions on how to find our room. The local pub was just a few mins walk away and served perfect pub food til late. The fire place in our room was cozy and romantic. The breakfast in bed was amazing, delicious and so beautiful. We could tell lots of thought and and time went into the presentation. The garden is lovely and we met Kimberly who was very friendly and kind while chatting.

Pros: You can’t beat the location and the breathtaking views. The rooms are comfortable and clean. Each room has an ocean view and balcony. You can listen to the waves from your bed each morning and night. The staff is friendly and attentive. The bar/restaurant was great. People who aren’t even staying at the hotel come here just for the food and the view. A beach and kayaking are just steps away at the beach you can see from your balcony. You can spend your entire time within 500 feet of your room and feel that you’ve had the real Mendocino experience.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Views were fantastic In room fridge was a nice touch Breakfast was great and reasonably priced
Cons: Room decor and bathroom was dated and the room was musty. Shared balcony doesn't lend for true privacy No bottled water in the room (and vending machine was empty) Old school keys No gym No pool Cookies were incredibly hard
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location was perfect
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The ocean view was terrific and the food and service were great as well.
Cons: The mattress was not too comfortable.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: the View!
Cons: Had to request extra bed covering for beds - response was terrific!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Johanna Brock suite was a great little room that was right on the ocean bluff. Great experience
Cons: Having upstairs neighbors in a home/ suite style setting. The house was divided into 3 suites. 2 downstairs and 1 up. Our neighbors were pleasant it was just not the place I expected to hear people above me.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: - Awesome views from the balcony - Very nice and attentive staff - Nicely furnished room - Dining table with chairs and good fridge and coffee machine, so we were able to have breakfast in the room with our kids. - Restaurant was good, but quite dark and no views on the sea (which is really a pity!)
Cons: - Bathroom ventilation was very loud. So we didn't switch it on much. The bathroom was very humid. - Highway directly between hotel and sea, so you can hear it all the time (but luckily not really see it) - Breakfast only in restaurant, cannot be booked with room (can get quite expensive with two kids)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Unbeatable view. Good room service!
9.3 Excellent
Cons: Beds could be more comfortable and carpet looked dated
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Along with the location, I appreciated that the hotel uses bath and shower products that are NOT tested on animals and also has a recycling program that makes use of left over soaps.
7.0 Good
Pros: The view from the room was great. It’s the thing that stood out for us on this trip.
Cons: The food was a little too pricey for the quality.

Pros: Fabulous patio. Super friendly staff. All that is. Loved the fire in the morning. Great selection of wine. Maybe cut hedges at bottom of front patio for visibility of beach - have to be at least 6’ if sitting to see from sofa. Thank you. We will be back.
Cons: - unfortunately found a hair in my dinner at the Sunday evening soirée for the priest retiring.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing property with an amazing stuff. The only problem we had was that we had to leave after 3 wonderful nights. We loved everything at Brewery Gulch Inn. The stuff was very friendly and forthcoming. We arrived around 7:30 pm and they were expecting us with food prepared and left in the room as well as a bottle of wine. Because I told them we were celebrating my wife's birthday that week, they also let a bottle of champagne in one of the rooms. The food was fantastic. Each morning they had the standard breakfast + something special. Every evening they had a complimentary snack and wine tasting. They call it a snack but it was more or less a dinner, very good and well prepared. The rooms were very comfortable and clean, offering everything you may need. The main lobby had a library of books and almost 400 DVDs with various movies (both very new and older). They also had various board games, a big fireplace and a very beautiful terrace. We spent every night there watching the sunset over the Smugglers Cove, enjoying a glass of wine and playing some games. The grounds of the Inn are very nice, with several trails, ponds with waterlilies and many beautiful birds. The Inn is also located very close to Mendocino and many of the attractions of the area. We spent 3 nights at the Inn, but we would love to spend 3 more. We did not get the chance to see everything, and we will definitely like to come back. Our trip was longer and we had several more stops in Eureka and Sacramento, but in the end, both my wife and my kids voted Brewery Gulch Inn the place where we should have stayed longer and where they would love to return.
Cons: There is nothing there not to like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was our second visit. We had been looking forward to the Million Dollar Bacon. I, unfortunately, had to give mine to my husband as I couldn't eat it as it was way too spicy for my indigestion. I don't know if it just had too much pepper or what you did to the bacon but my stomach just won't tolerate anything but bland so maybe that's on me. But even he said it wasn't what he remembered, not quite as good. Sorry! But we liked the room. Last minute reservation so we were lucky to get it. Was too cool for me to walk around but my husband did and enjoyed it very much. I love the fire in the main lobby.
Cons: As I said above, bacon could have been less, or not at all spicy. You could tell visitors about heat/spice level of food to save waste and allow them to choose well for their needs. As for the rest, grounds and rooms are beautiful, clean, wonderful amenities and I'm sure we'll we back.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This place is a dream. Mendocino is enchanted and enchanting. As for the hotel, breakfast will knock your socks off. The evening "wine hour" is really dinner with wine, buffet style. Fresh, gorgeous food prepared by a chef. A great selection of local wines are poured. The hotel isn't easy to get to, winding roads through redwoods and wine country and finally along Highway 1 on the coast. That isn't a criticism, the fact that it's off the beaten path is what makes it so beautiful (can I say again how breathtaking it is?) and special, I mention the driving stuff as an FYI. The hotel is lovely, very comfortable and serene with great views of the ocean (which is literally right across the road). I highly recommend the room called Osprey. We were in another room first , the Heron, which was fine, but the Osprey has great light, views on all sides and a soaking tub with a huge window that looks out to the sea. Stunning. The staff is so friendly and anticipates your every need without being stuffy or pretentious. On the night we arrived they had dinner waiting for us in our room because we arrived late and missed wine hour. We ate in front of the fireplace in our room listening to the waves crash on the rocks. I mean, come on. A truly uncommon and lovely stay.
Cons: Nothing! Everything was delightful. Oh, yes, one gigantic complaint. One night there was apple pie for dessert and it was one of the top ten apple pies of life. But there wasn't more apple pie at breakfast, dinner the next day, breakfast the next day...you get the idea. More apple pie!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing property, i see forest arround, the ocean is very close, the building - a lot if wood - nicely integrated with the nature... i arrived here passing the Red woods - a sequoia forest - you can not imagine the feeling...
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The wine hour/food was excellent! Views are phenomenal and the property is gorgeous!
Cons: We could hear the people in the room above us walking around, going to the bathroom etc.. The roads to get to the property from the Airport are like being on a roller coaster. Beware if you get car sick.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very charming. Beautiful place. Excellent breakfast.
Cons: Very expensive.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was outstanding, and the room includes both breakfast AND dinner. There's 24-hour beverage service, as well, so you can get a cup of coffee or tea or cocoa whenever you want it. The view of the bay, out our window, was also stunning. It's a great place for bird-watching, and I enjoyed wandering the grounds.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was great overlooking the bay. The food was outstanding, it was unique and tasty. It was almost like staying at your own house but with a better cook. It has DVD's so you don't need to rely on network for Netflix
Cons: The main issue was the lack of AC, normally this wouldn't be a issue based on it's location. But with heat waves becoming more of the norm they need to figure out something better than a fan. During the day the room was really uncomfortable, it really did cool down until evening
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing Inn on a well maintained, gem of a property. Relaxed, comfortable, attentive, luxurious, gourmet all rolled into one exceptional experience. We’ll be back!
Cons: Nothing!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful views and very quiet
Cons: Walls are a little thin, hear everything
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The pillows were wonderful!
Cons: Wished for beach access.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Good location, great view, nice remodeling, very comfortable
Cons: BBQ needed some attention and cleaning. Adding a hot tub or jacuzzi would be a nice enhancement
3.7 Mediocre
Pros: That they were very pet friendly.
Cons: The deception. The website looks so beautiful. The place is much different, the photographer did a great job. Never stay in the Pomo cabin! Beware! The floors are so crooked you get dizzy just walking around. The hot tub had so much chlorine in it it was hard to breathe while in there, and the hot tub at the top of the property was conveniently out of order. We will never stay here again, you can find much nicer places to stay in Mendocino.
9.7 Excellent
Pros: The local charm was worth the drive and the price of the cottage. The local cuisine was divine!
Cons: Nothing actually
6.3 Good
Pros: The coffee was fabulous.
Cons: The hot tub didn't work. The freezer and fireplace fans were in need of service, we were woken up at 4am by the freezer. The fireplace fan sounded like a jet engine alternating with a screeching noise. No oil, measuring cups or spoons or a can opener in the fully equipped kitchen.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great view..Pet friendly. Fully stocked kitchen. The staff were super friendly, and made us feel welcome!
Cons: Dog odor. Couch needed to be replaced.

Pros: Beautiful place. Right near the ocean. Breakfast was excellent. Food was well prepared. Rooms were exceptionally clean.
Cons: Can’t think of anything I didn’t like.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Cozy and clean. Super comfy bed
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room, great location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff and grounds are wonderful. Special place!
Cons: Picky but the wallpaper in our room was kind of tacky
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Dinner and breakfast were both excellent! Room was beautiful, comfortable and spacious.
Cons: We should have stayed longer.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Private hot tub and comfortable room
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast selection and food was good. Beautiful ocean views. Lots of walking trails. Location is perfect.
Cons: Being a historic building, sound travels everywhere throughout the house. Can be a little noisy. The cost for a tiny glass of orange juice at breakfast is outrageously expensive. If your not a coffee drinker getting all the free coffee you can drink, you can't help feeling that you're subsidizing their free coffee with your super expensive juice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: We loved the hot tub, breakfast and comfy bed. The location was superb for enjoying town.
Cons: We could hear the loud TV in the room next door while we were trying to sleep. The area around the private hot tub could have been cleaner- someone else’s cigarette butts, a bottle cap and potato chip crumbs were all around the tub. Also the tub wasn’t totally full. In the bedroom, TV’s Vizeo icon shone really brightly in our eyes all night. The alarm was set by someone else for 6:30AM and woke us up.
7.0 Good
Pros: We have stayed here twice before and every thing has been great the place is beautiful
Cons: The room was next to the stairway and it was loud . And got bit all night by ants
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location
Cons: Room is small
6.3 Good
Pros: Location. Price relative to other places nearby (but now I see why). Bathtub in the bathroom was the saving grace.
Cons: Noise. There is no sound proofing. I could hear everything, including early morning breakfast prep and someone playing loud music from another room at 730am. Old furniture and bed. The mattress was so used up.
Nicholson House Inn And Spa - Mendocino - Building

8.9 Excellent (136 reviews)
C$ 233+
Overview Reviews
When you a stay at Nicholson House Inn and Spa in Mendocino, you'll be on the waterfront, within a 5-minute walk of Friendship Park and Kelley House Museum. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, coffee/tea in a common area, and microwave in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The location was excellent. We have been to Mendocino several times and this is the first time we stayed in town and we loved walking to the coffee shops and restaurants. (Don't miss Luna Trattoria, which is literally next door and is one of the few places open till 10pm on weekends). The build was old victorian style with a common living area downstairs with TV, kitchenette with coffee maker, microwave. Our room was quite comfortable with an attached bathroom, but the way the roofline came over the headboard of our bed, we couldn't sit on our bed which was annoying. We tried to watch some movie on netflix but had to do so lying down. Breakfast was quite good. Typically included a home made quiche, bowl of cut fruits/berries, bagels/english muffins, Juice and coffee. Yogurt and granola were available too. The lady that worked at the breakfast place was very friendly and helpful. We had a Tesla and were wondering about charging places around. She took the effort to call McCallum place nearby and got details on how to find their charging stations which helped us immensely.
Cons: other than the fact that we couldn't sit up on our bed (see above), can't think of any negatives.
8.5 Excellent
Pros: Overall a good experience. The place was clean and the lady doing our check in was a world of help for the area. Secluded and off the beaten track, but the entire town is within walking distance. The place where we ate was only a couple of blocks away and was one of the best fish and chips I've ever had.
Cons: I find it a little distasteful to find thick paint on everything. You wouldn't paint your house this thick so why would you do it to a house from 1905?
6.6 Good
Pros: Location and service from the check in staff.
Cons: Toilet in my room was a little cramped for space.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Location was good and things were clean.
Cons: This property was very outdated for the price (linoleum flooring?) and is, quite frankly, odd. Breakfast in a garage? Improve the linens and buy more comfortable pull out beds. Sounds between rooms were loud. Further, staff was not the most facilitating. Lastly, add some car chargers to facilitate the electric cars. Kitchen faucet spouted water all over the counter. Overall, I get the sense owners were squeezing cash out of this property while not caring about the comfort of guests and not seeking repeat business.
7.5 Good
Pros: Clean. Comfortable. Great location downtown.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a charming bed and breakfast. The bed was so comfortable! I can’t say enough for the breakfast! Delicious breakfast! I would definitely stay there again.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Good location, with good restaurants right next door and access to an adjacent spa
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Exceptional breakfast
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Walking around town, having so many restaurants to choose from, great shops. But we have to rave about the breakfast, what a treat to have a delicious home cooked meal, different every morning. And the cook, I so apologize I forgot her name, gave us great tips on things to do, and was just a kick to talk to.
Cons: The room was very small, not that we didn’t know the dimensions ahead of time, but seeing it was a bit of a let down. The bed was a bit soft, but OK for two nights.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff was wonderful. The breakfast was beyond my expectations. It was clean. The bed was comfy and the bedroom was cozy.
Cons: The kitchen and bath were quite dated. The sofa bed, very uncomfortable. For that reason, it isn't so suitable for 4 people.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic staff
Cons: Everything was excellent

Overview Reviews
When you stay at Blackberry Inn in Mendocino, you'll be by the ocean, within a 5-minute drive of Agate Beach and Friendship Park. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: no breakfast per se but they offered us fruit and muffins to take to our room for the next day.
Cons: Very, very soft mattress. Not average firmness but less. Need to add a board. But room/suite/cottage was spectacular otherwise.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, close to town center.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Quiet and very easy to check in after hours.
Cons: Nothing
7.4 Good
Cons: One of the factors that we used in making our desision on where to stay in Mendocino was the promise of freshly baked goods by pastry chef - Katherine. What we got was two lemon muffins in a zip lock bag. fresh fruit was available in the office to supliment the breakfast . If I am staying at a charming Bed and Breakfast, spending 170 a night for a room, I kinda expect more than grocery store muffins. Very disappointed in that
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We loved this little quaint place (we couldn’t decide quite what to call it! Motel wasn’t enough, but it didn’t have some of the facilities of a hotel). The place was full of character and although the rooms weren’t particularly modern in decor, they were good quality and well maintained. We found the room really comfortable and relaxing. They gave us muffins and fruit for breakfast too, and it was all organic (including the coffee in the room).
Cons: There were a couple of very minor things; one curtain wasn’t quite long enough to block out the morning light, the hem on another had come down. The bathroom was small and could benefit from an extractor fan as it looked a little damp on the ceiling. These are minor things though and wouldn’t stop me from staying there again.
5.0 Okay
Cons: The bed was ok not the most comfortable . The room was over priced. Very sheet construction.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It was nice to have the breakfast. I wish the muffins were covered. Location was very good, worked well we had to be in Casper for a Wedding and it was easy to get there from your location.
Cons: It was nice.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Overall, the property was really cute - like an old-time city street with various shop and business fronts, where each room has a different function (bank, saloon, barber shop, etc.). This cute personality didn't carry to the inside though, but rooms were generous, well-equipped with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc. The decor appeared a bit dated, but didn't feel out of place. Plenty of parking right in front of the room, with a very quiet neighborhood, but also a bit away from Mendo's main drag.
Cons: Each outing required driving (for example, short drive into town took ca. 3 mins).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location and quaint. One of a kind!
Cons: Nothing!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice place like it’s own little town and rooms was cosy and quirky helpful staff sorted us out for arriving after check in closed
Cons: Breakfast could’ve been a few more options

9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great ocean view room; large and spacious bathroom. Balcony great. Room service was good and had a huge menu. Super dog friendly! Beautiful sunsets. Can’t wait to go back.
Cons: Nothing really! Our view was a bit obstructed with vegetation but we could still see the ocean.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Room was great. View and property stunning. Excellent food and again the view. I forgot how incredible the universe is at night until I stepped out onto my deck to hear the ocean and looked up. Absolutely clear air. Star gazing at its finest next to Alaska.
Cons: Nothing
4.5 Okay
Pros: The view from the room was stunning. I like the light in the closet. The room size was spacious.
Cons: This facility is past its prime. I stepped in roken glass in our room, the shower did not drain, the iron was burned and ruined my husbands shirt, the curtains ripped, ants in the room, no coffee creamer, bed was too hard and the mattress very thin, overall the facility appeared run down. We complained and instead of compensating us for the substandard room, the hotel charged my card twice.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Heritage House is historic and in a breathtaking location. We enjoyed the most spectacular room for location and view. The staff is lovely.
Cons: For 40 years we have enjoyed fine dining at HH. Perhaps because we dined there on a Monday night, which might have been Chef's night off, the food was mediocre. Overdone, dry hamburger; thoughtlessly plated Mary's chicken. Sullen dining room service. No bread and butter service without paying for this as a side -- a definite no-no in Northern California. Recommend Le Beaujolais or Luna in Mendocino Town, just minutes away, until they get their kitchen up to the standard of the resort.
5.5 Okay
Pros: The location is magnificent but it was. Missing a magic of the area.
Cons: The room was not up to my expectations. We experienced ants, the floor was shabby and the was poor housekeeping as there was much dust under the bed. Facilities were shopworn and needed painting and updating.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property is gorgeous. Beautiful grounds and bra views.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The spacious bathroom and room. Gorgeous ocean views
Cons: Limited parking, and dimly lit walkways
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The location is amazing: at the edge of the redwood forest on California Highway 1 on the rugged and rocky shores of the Pacific Ocean. The room we stayed in was large and nicely appointed with a huge wooden deck facing the ocean. The room had a fireplace, bar area with a Keurig coffee maker, a refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom was huge; the shower was even bigger with a rain shower head. The resort is extremely pet friendly. Our dog was welcomed in the lower dining room of the restaurant, as well as in the bar area. The grounds are delightful, beautifully manicured with a meadow, a gazebo overlooking the rocky shore, and plenty of trails. We were only there for one night, but we will return and spend at least a week.
Cons: Loved everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The property was beautiful, the room we stayed in was excellent. The coast and ocean views were outstanding! The food at the restaurant was also wonderful, we had breakfast one morning and a dinner another during our stay.
Cons: The staff was friendly and helpful but our room for the first night was not ready on time. After discussion we were upgraded to another room which actually exceeded our expectations. Thank you Heritage House!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything. This was our FAVORITE place of all the resorts we stayed in along our PCH adventure. I want to live here. The view - the fire place - the bed ... all fantastic. This place is a hidden gem and I m so happy we found it.
Cons: No. It was perfect.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The view was breathtaking. Great insulation, everything was in good working order, clean, maintained, very spacious accommodations. Loved the spacious grounds, staff was very cheerful and helpful.
Cons: Not all the windows had shades.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The view, room size, bathroom and shower. Staff were great, food very good, bed comfy.
Cons: A few little things in the bedroom could be improved - a screen on the door would have let us open the doors to the deck and avoided bugs, the room could have been cleaner, and I didn’t like the hessian mat on the floor.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfasts were delicious. Loved the farmhouse with the games and sherry. Loved the peace and quiet. Very tranquil and serene.
Cons: Can't think of anything. Maybe more of opportunity to interact with the llamas.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast offering was an excellent gourmet presentation. Having the llamas and chickens were a treat. We appreciate the organic and earth friendly products offered.
Cons: As early risers breakfast could have been served a bit earlier.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The menu was varied with some unusual and vegan options. Pricing was fair, too. Very close to Van Dam beach. Lovely place to stay.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Where it was located
Cons: So far away
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very peaceful nice play to stay.
Cons: Room should have had a fan. Got hot during the day.
6.3 Good
Pros: It is hard not to like being on the Mendocino coast!
Cons: Sheets were not fitted to the bed and kept coming off, the shower head detached itself on the misses and I fortunately was able to reattach it. We had breakfast at the onsite diner but the misses got sick from it and that negatively impacted the day, upon returning from our morning outing that was cut short due to breakfast reaction we had to prompt room service for fresh towels and clean cups, the slider door tracks are corroded and difficult to open and close.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Martin and carry are so welcoming to us property is super dog friendly
Cons: No ice machine
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was amazing! I absolutely loved watching the animals eat their breakfast too. It was like a fairy tale. The food and the staff were so incredible!
Cons: The wifi was spotty. We had trouble getting on to look for things to do and see in the area.
7.5 Good
Pros: The property is beautiful and the manager was very welcoming and warm. Breakfast location was very good.
Cons: The description of the room on booking.com could have been better. We didnt expect to get a room with no windows apart from the glass in the front which was also the common passage area for other guests. It could be a problem for those with claustrophobia. Given that every cottage/room was so different, photographs and descriptions should not be generic - this gives misleading information.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A great place ton stay if you want to feel like you are not is a pesky hotel/ Gorgeous views and great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Cons: A little weak on maid service.
7.0 Good
Pros: The room (Thyme)was spacious and had a porch back & front. The small yard at the back was fenced but not secure enough for a small (8lb.) dog.We had to watch her to make sure she did not escape as there was room enough under fencing towards the deck area but this was not a big issue as there is so much area for walking your dog or allowing your dog off leash. Front porch had view of the ocean ,landscape & office /restaurant area. Easy to sit & relax. We never used the hot tub or sauna nor did I indulge in a Spa Treatment. I did check out the sauna/hot tub area & it was very clean & in a pleasant setting at a more secluded part of the property next to the Spa which is in the Yurt. Our room had a spa tub which was great but we just showered in the spacious ADA compliant shower. Plenty of hot water. Spa tub is separate from bath room. It is an open tub next to the king size bed. Spa towels & spa robes are provided. Coffee maker (tea bags , creamer etc.) Microwave, hairdryer, small fridge
Cons: The gas fireplace which is the only source of heat had a sooty smell to it when in use so we never used it but brought it to the attention of management when we left & they listened to my concerns & said they would check it out.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and there was an iron. We had a fridge, complimentary coffee, and a complimentary wine bottle. The tub was huge! There was a spa on the grounds, sauna, and picnic tables. The hotel was dog friendly, and the restaurant served delicious food! I would definitely stay there again!!!
Cons: I liked it all!

7.0 Good
Pros: Easy access, good parking, good wi-fi, clean rooms.
Cons: Smaller room than anticipated, ant problem, needs armchair for reading, new coffee maker has very short cord so had to try it in various locations to find an electrical outlet within the length of the cord.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We liked the heat source, the ground level, the bed was comfortable and the general feel of the room.
Cons: More hot water. My husband ended up with a cold shower, because he ran out of hot water during his shower.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Our host was very friendly and supportive and went out of her way to attempt to deal with our two serious complaints. She called us once to see how everything was, and gave recommendations on local dining and the alternative roads available to allow return to our home. A number of roads were closed due to extensive flooding.
Cons: However . . . the room, athough , clean, attractive and having a nice gas fireplace was unacceptable. We were inundated with ants on two of our four evenings there. The television service was through Direct TV, with a highly complex remote control with which we were never able to access any programming whatever. We made a request that, if it was so easy, please ask the maid to turn on the TV and leave it operating when she left the room. That request was not followed. I also recommended to the host that they print up instructions for operating the remote. That request did not seem to meet with any support. Absence of a TV during four nights of a downpour was not at all pleasant.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Fire in room, it was warm when we arrived. Bed comfortable. Sea view
Cons: Had to collect key 4 miles from the Buckhorn Cove, dark by the time we drove back and couldn’t find the place, no clear large sign, drove on too far and eventually had to turn back. In the room only plastic cups and glasses, no bowls, plates cutlery etc. We had a microwaveable meal, but no cutlery to eat it with, also no bowls or spoons to eat our muesli with in the morning! Considering there is nowhere to eat apart from Mendocino 4 miles away, we feel the owner should provide plates, bowls cutlery etc or at the very least warn us to eat at Mendocino as nothing is provided at the chalet.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Access to beautiful Buckhorn Cove. Quiet- we were the only guests!
Cons: Small room. Everything else was fine
7.5 Good
Pros: It was fine. Shower situation was an issue. Probably should have been a sign saying hot means cold and cold means hot. It actually fixing the problem! Other than that fine
9.3 Excellent
Pros: All very good except could have used ice.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything else. The location was amazing. The parking was easy. There was wifi. Close to medicino with AMAZING food. Their guest book had so many recommendations. The views out of our balcony was amazing. I loved that it was pet friendly and provided sheets, towels, and treats for our furry friend. Right down the street was the big river Beach (highly recommend!
Cons: There were ants everywhere and at midnight the first night the fire alarm started to churp. We called the person and no one responded so we got to listen to that all night. The next day we left it on the table hoping whoever came to fix the room would fix it. We came back and it was still churping. They sent someone over right away but then it started to churp again! :( All night and morning til we left. It was awful. I felt like I was going crazy. Only reason I'm not giving it top stars.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice, newly remodeled room and bathroom with a comfortable bed. Close to the town of Mendocino and also close to some nice beaches and rivers to explore.
Cons: I didn't realize that the check-in location/key pick up was not at the same location as the Inn until we had already arrived. Not a huge deal, however after a long day of driving it was a little inconvenient to have to back-track a couple of miles to get our key.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved the quiet, natural surroundings and cozy interior. Would definitely recommend.

Pros: Close to the wedding venue we were attending.
Cons: Historical, but really in need of some care. Room was tired and not super clean.
8.0 Excellent
Cons: paper thin walls
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location and beautiful old building. We ate dinner in the Victorian restaurant and were very well looking after by John. Delicious food too! Mendocino is a cute town and we enjoyed our brief stay here.
Cons: Beds were not very comfortable. Bathroom was small in our room.
7.0 Good
Pros: Great location. Hotel had historic charm. It is definitely a place where you go for the experience and not for comfort.
Cons: Very squeaky beds, you can cough or roll over without making a huge racket.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice view, lots of wild blackberries across the road. Very close to a great market which was a lifesaver since there was no electricity at the motel due to the fire.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Lovely and stylish hotel with a 19th century flair offering complementary coffee in the morning as well as a nice, varied and tasty breakfast menu. We shared the facilities and never had a problem with finding a free shower/toilet, all of which were kept very clean. Mendocino is a small place, the hotel is central as well as facing the seafront and surrounded by shops/restaurants. The rooms are not spacious, but very nice looking. A hotel that looks more expensive than it was :-)
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Magnificent Victorian hotel OVERLOOKING the Pacific Ocean.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Excellent Location.
Cons: Room and bed were to small. No TV or Night tables
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The room had direct access to the wrap around terrace overlooking the coast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel in the middle of everything in town
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The Hotel is a historic building in the middle of town with an expansive ocean view. The cafe is very affordable for excellent breakfast options and there is a happy hour with affordable drinks. With style and good service at economy prices with the shared bath rooms... What's not to like?
8.2 Excellent
Pros: Excellent Location on Main Street and close to Ocean. No TV, but great period decor throughout. Great food and service. Plenty to do for couple of days without driving anywhere. Definitely worth a visit!!
Cons: The mattress (room 7) was terrible...maybe as old as the hotel itself. This was such a negative; almost ruined the trip for us. Told front desk person, but she never made a note of my comment or apologized.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was quaint, clean and comfortable. The surrounding grounds was a well maintained beautiful garden. The Inn is an older structure with period correct fixtures and amenities. I liked the overall ambience, the location and the comfort. The stay was very pleasant, the location excellent with the historic town and the Mendocino coast within walking distance. I will have no hesitation staying at the Hill House Inn again.
Cons: The staff was a bit impersonal and the breakfast in the morning was a bit off-the-shelf supermarket stuff and the coffee tepid. The again, for the price one cannot beat the value.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Walking distance to town. Super friendly staff and coffee served all day
6.0 Good
Pros: The charm of this "hotel" makes it worth staying. Its in a great place, only a few walking steps from everything.
Cons: There is no Air Conditioning or Fans. It was very hot and had a difficult time sleeping. I understand ACs are not the norm by the coast, but they need something.
7.0 Good
Pros: Small, quiet facility.
Cons: Hotel is very old, and kinda looks it. Some areas need attention.
3.8 Mediocre
Pros: Location.
Cons: Totally Run down!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful old looking but well kept hotel, very nice garden and great spacious rooms, very clean and in very good condition
Cons: No Microwave nor fridge. (Probably did not meet the environment)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It’s a cool and funky historic property. We stayed in the “Betty Davis Suite” and was told she’d actually stayed in that same room. Our room was large and had a real working fireplace (they provided a Dura-Flame log for no extra cost!). And Mendocino is flat out gorgeous.
Cons: There’s some wear-and-tear issues going on that could take over if not addressed: holes in the curtain liners, small stains on the bathroom towels, etc. We’d stay there again — but if improvements aren’t made, this property could lose its quirky charm quickly.
6.0 Good
Pros: Good location
Cons: facilities and cleanliness to be improved
7.0 Good
Pros: Location good Beds comfortable
Cons: Decor dated however in keeping with old American styling
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great location. Beautiful hotel.
Cons: My daughter is allergic to dust. She was stuffy the whole night.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: My room was ground level with a spa tub. Very big room and very comfortable!
7.0 Good
Pros: Breakfast was very nice although the seating was a tad unconventional.
Cons: Having the room just by the main entrance led to a lot of disturbance. Also, I didn't like having the head end of the bed abutting a window - I guess it is the Feng Shui person in me...
5.5 Okay
Pros: I stayed in the water tower and really liked it. it was cozy and my queen bed was comfortable. It was really low to the floor but that bother me at all. My 7yr old slept on the sofa bed and it worked great for him. Not so sure it would have been comfortable for a larger Adult, but again my son loved it. The breakfast was good. The Pancakes amazing.
Cons: lets see..what could have been better? Welll I guess you could say that the property is in definite need of a.... facelift. I was concerned that I was disturbing my neighbors when I went up and down the separate water tower stairs because the are creaky..maybe even a little wobbly? Also I instructed my son to be careful not to drag his hands on the rail so he wouldn't get splinters. And there are other things that I could say... but overall..we enjoyed ourselves and would definitely stay in the water tower again...even with the creaky staircase! The guests were great..met some really nice folks.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Host was entertaining, breakfast was excellent, room was just wonderful. A very warm and inviting home.
6.0 Good
Pros: Staff was wonderful and the breakfast was special.
Cons: The owners of this historic building should be ashamed of themselves for the physical condition of the rooms and building. Beds were comfortable but couches, chairs etc were pitiful.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice, huge room on first floor. Reminded of Andrew Jackson's Hermitage parlor room. Breakfast patio was quite pleasant with chirping birds and blue sky.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Casual style. The other guests were very pleasant. My dog was welcome. Perfect location for a village stay.
Cons: Breakfast was too spicy for a little old lady!
4.3 Okay
Pros: Not much
Cons: The house was extremely shabby, front door knob was almost falling off, it looked like the house from the 60’s Tv series the Adams Family
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The vegetarian breakfast was outstanding! And the musical overture beforehand was lovely! The property and the surrounding were beautifully full of flowers!
7.5 Good
Pros: Great atmosphere
Cons: Not enough food at breakfast
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Perfect location. Walking distance to shops, restaurants and trails. Breakfast was excellent The owner is entertaining. Room was perfect. Cozy, comfortable.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The Inn is in very old house, very funky and interesting, big room with high ceiling. Room had Jacuzzi (which I didn't use). Nice grounds outside. Great staff, full of information. In good location, walking distance to several restaurants.
Cons: Not really. I wish I could have stayed longer and not just one night.
