Pros: The fantastic tips and notes on the maps provided by the hosts with all the same care they put into every item in the home. They even drove us to the cafe before we headed to the station to help with our bags. The view onto the river is fabulous, the location so central and all round perfect Overall Quiet and calm is encouraged with respect to fellow “housemates” so it’s great for early nights in

Pros: Excellent stay in Nikko. Cozy, new and super-clean spot! And Ken-san (the owner) and his wife went above and beyond for welcoming us and for making us feel at home (Ken even drove us to the train station!!) Thank you so very much for everything, Domo Arigato Gozaimashita!

Pros: Wonderful hospitality! We felt at home there. Our hosts even prepared a personnalized map of things to see in Nikko, where to eat (including at one time restaurants closed), where to shop, ... The house was very well decorated, our bedroom very comfortable, and the bathroom/toilet area clean. We especially enjoyed the "lounge/living room" with its garden view. We would definitely recommend staying at Stay Nikko Guesthouse!

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location, good breakfast, really great Onsen baths which we absolutely loved!! We enjoyed the stroll along the river gorge from the hotel to the city center that the owner recommended to us.
Cons: The room was really small for three people and the bathroom is really tiny, just one of those one-piece bathrooms like found on ships. This made it slightly uncomfortable. Definitely ok for two people though.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was very friendly, the private onsens were great and our room was very clean. The major shrines are only a fifteen minute walk away.
Cons: Room looked a tiny bit dated, but it did not bother us at all.

Pros: We loved the baths, so relaxing! The owners of this hotel are just lovely and kind; they offered to drive us to the train station, just a class act all the way. Delicious breakfast, I would highly recommend, fresh baked rolls everyday!
Cons: That we had to leave, it was the best part of our honeymoon in Japan staying at this lovely place.
7.5 Good
Pros: the staff are very nice and the breakfast is very good. it is a little far away from the CBD. you should need to buy a pass bus ticket.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The bath house was amazing. Breakfast was excellent. I asked for a taxi as I was checking out, the older fellow behind the counter said he'd give me a lift. Enough english to get by. Very pleasant.
Cons: Didn't like the pillows, had to steal one from the next bed. Location also wasn't the greatest, about 2 miles from the station.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Where do I start? It was incredible from the moment we stepped out of the taxi – met by a sea of smiling faces and warm welcomes, ushered inside and served a drink while our bags were taken to our room. The room was beautiful (Ginryu - twin with private outdoor bath) – and that outdoor bath was amazing! Each night we were served a different traditional meal in our own private dining area (the food was delicious!). The hotel is tucked away in a beautifully quiet area, away from the main street, so using their complimentary shuttle bus to get around is recommended. The majority of the staff do not speak/understand English very well, but they tried their best to communicate, which we greatly appreciated as our Japanese proficiency is not good at all. Overall superb service, food and accommodation. I would definitely stay here again!
Cons: Absolutely nothing!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The overall layout is very good
Cons: Too much Food
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic service and food. We had a lovely room with private bath, had a very relaxing stay. The courtesy bus from the station and temples was a bonus, it worked very well! Overall the hotel was very private - we barely saw the other guests which was nice!
Cons: We chose a Japanese-style room, and I probably would not do that again. I am not built for futons, and not having a bed to collapse in on arrival was hard! But this is not on the hotel at all - we should have just chosen western style.
6.3 Good
Pros: Cozy beds, beautiful green views.
Cons: too noisy. staffs chatting, next door ‘s sound and vacuum before check-out are my impression of this accommodation. we can’t say private dining room by same reason.
7.5 Good
Pros: Great location, private onsen was nice, dinner was delicious. Staff very helpful.
Cons: Meals felt rushed at times, was not offered a drink menu for alcohol.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location, and deluxe room was wonderful and spacious with a private onsen. Staff were very helpful and quick to respond to all requests.
Cons: Pillows on the bed were a bit uncomfortable.
8.3 Excellent
Cons: Breakfast and dinner were included, japanese style. Looked very much vegetarian, and we had to cook stuff by ourselves. May seem interesting, but as my wife says, if I must cook my food myself, I better stay home :-(.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Room was big and comfortable, service was good, response to queries and requests was very prompt, onsen was beautiful, breakfast and dinner was good as well.
Cons: Just a bit far from the station, but they did have shuttle pickups in the day which was great, just not the night time.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Japanese style room, very large, three rooms, actually, including an enclosed porch for sitting. Meals were excellent and beautifully presented. There was good transfer service available getting from the train station to the hotel.
Cons: The staff was not prepared for English speaking guests. It was sometimes difficult to communicate. No English language services on the room TV, either.
Seijaku To Magokoro No Yado Nanaeyae - Nikkō - Building
5
9.0 Excellent (721 reviews)
C$ 429+
Overview Reviews
With a stay at Seijaku to Magokoro no Yado Nanaeyae in Nikko, you'll be within a 5-minute drive of Kinugawa Onsen and Tobu World Square. This ryokan is 3.6 mi (5.8 km) from Edo Wonderland and 14.6 mi (23.5 km) from Hunter Mountain Shiobara.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing service - you really see what Japanese standards of service means (tea ceremony in the room when you arrive, owner coming to greet each guest at dinner...). Excellent food in a private dinner room, very good breakfast, all typically japanese. The locally produced sake is the best we ever had. Rooms are large, comfortable, with a flair of « tradition » but at the same time equipped with latest standards (excellent wifi for example). Private onsen available. Small gifts at departure. The city as such is nothing exceptional but this ryokan is worth the trip in itself (rooms with river view to be preferred)
Cons: Nothing
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Proximity to the train station, nice outdoor onsen
Cons: Futon padding could have been thicker.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great room and quality onsen - small, but more than enough for a nice, relaxing break. The owners were simply beyond "nice" - they actually noticed my birthday was just a few days ago, and offered me a small sake during dinner and gave a small gift when I checked out. The room was excellent - nice river view, very large and cozy. The staff members actually laid out the blankets when we left for dinner, and packed it back for us when we were enjoying a morning onsen (quite a nice view of a river flowing underneath). This was our party's first visit to a Ryokan-and I have to say, it exceeded every bit of our expectation. Definitely looking forward for a second visit.
Cons: Beer was a bit pricey.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great Staff and hospitality and service
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The service in the ryokan was excellent! The staff was very helpful and friendly and the place is convenient to walk to from Kinugawaonsen train station. It is a good place to relax and rejuvenate yourself from strenuous walking and hiking.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, staffs are concerned to the custoners
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staffs are very friendly and provide a 'butler service' in a tradition Japanese way. We are surprised that staffs came out to welcome us when we still 20 metres away from the hotel. We stayed in the begining of February which probably is not the peak season so the whole staying feels very private and enjoyable. We even have our own dining room. I informed the hotel this is my husband's first trip to Japan to celebrate his birthday. We got a special staff bring in entertainment and souvenir as a gift after our dinner to celebrate, which is very nice of the hotel. The dinner is about 12 course set menu, very lovely! Overall, the experience is great and we would love to come back here again.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nearly everything: views, authenticity, food, location.
Cons: Futon and pillows take some getting used to
9.2 Excellent
Cons: Hotel's name only show in Japanease language so it's difficult for foreigner to find the hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: Friendly staff, delicious food, good price
Cons: The only thing I don’t understand is that staff insisted coming up to tidy up at 8 am

Pros: Private bath in the room terrasse had a wonderful view, bath downstairs and massage chairs just were the perfect combination to relax. The hotel is a bit getting old but it only give it a soul. The facilities are in perfect shape, perfectly clean. Room was very confortable and we received a warm welcome. Diner and breakfast both were delicious. It was hard not to ask to stay for another day.

Pros: Dinner very good
Cons: Breakfast too simple

Pros: I don't know where to start, it was so great! The lovely, helpful smily staff, the heart warming way they received up when we came, and during the meals, and the magnificient meals, the tremendous view of Chuzenji lake, the marvelous outdoor onsen in the room. A jewel!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Service was great, facilities was plentiful and catered for all ages, onsen was one of the biggest I've seen in Japan, buffet breakfast and dinner had a super wide spread and variety, plus the food quality and taste was great as well. Will definitely recommend to people who want to stay around this area.
Cons: Perhaps just that this onsen hotel was a bit more mass and commercialised style, thus the scale of the hotel and the facilities were huge with a large number of rooms, which will prob not suit the traveller who is looking for a more traditional and 'authentic' onsen experience I would say, but depends on the traveller.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The entire experience was perfect! All the amenities provided additional comfort! The food was very good but I wish some items were replaced quicker. But we ate at the second serving so I guess it was harder for the hotel staff.
Cons: The distance of the indoor public baths.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the Japanese bedroom and the nice and smiling staff
7.1 Good
Pros: hot spring
Cons: obsolete room facilities, the air purifier does not work
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was awesome, especially the bath on the balcony, the food is also pretty good and the choices at the buffet :-)
Cons: Nothing to mention
7.9 Good
Pros: Very clean, great service and friendly staff. Buffet dinner and breakfast was great. Private onsen is really good
Cons: It’s very far from nearest station and not many trains. Also no internet, at least no instruction given.

Pros: The hotel was better when we could imagine! Exellent breakfast and dinner include everything you could want. Onsen on the roof with the view on the mountain. Liked every minute in this hotel
Cons: Nothing

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was perfect. Great Kaiseki dinner. Great breakfast. Great garden. Great room, traditional Japanese. This is a real Ryokan. I will never forgot all you did for us in our honeymoon. Thank you very much!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very close to the famous shrines, situated in a beautiful setting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The information given is correct and reliable. We enjoyed fabulous food and accommodation.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The view and location.
Cons: Onsen was smelly and bit tired and old. Rooms were very 90s and pretty worn down. The whole ryokan wasn’t cosy or beautiful, generally a very disappointing experience. Dinner was OK, but not a spectacular experience either. It is a commercial ryokan, not romantic at all, located in front of a car park on a main road.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Extremely nice and friendly staff. They really went out of their way to help us regarding shuttle service, baggage, maps, telling when cleaning was done, etc. Public bath was wonderful. Room was spacious. Yukatas were nice.
Cons: Room itself waa a little dated, ex. stains and damages on the wall.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location near Toshogu Shrine. Spectacular view from our room. Superb cuisine and attentive service in English. On the pricey side, but worth it for a splurge.
Cons: Everything was great.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Pretty much everything: - The food was delicious (both breakfast and dinner) and I have enjoyed having some information about what it was and how to eat it. - The room was spacious, clean and I liked the view from the window. It also had everything I needed (Yukata, tea, mobile to use for free, etc.) - The location was great and easy to go from the station. There is an shuttle bus that the accomodation will organise for you if you let them know. Alternatively, there is a bus that takes less than 10mins to go there or you can walk 25mins. I liked being next to Shinkyo Bridge and to most temples/shrines. The bus stop to go to Kegon Falls was also 2mins away. - The onsen was big with two baths, one inside (you can open the windows as well) and one outside which was wonderful, especially at night (I even spotted some deers). - The staff spoke very good English which was definitely helpful. There were also very nice and friendly.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: We really recommend Hoshino yado. The staff have been extraordinarily friendly and helpful to make our honeymoon stay extra special. The Kaiseki dinner and also the breakfast were beautifully presented and very tasty: if you want to try this experience, this is the place. The translations of the dishes and how to eat the traditional Japanese way were also much appreciated. The Yukata was great to wear in the hotel and the beautiful gardens, and the onsen was just what we needed after a long day. Also the futon and bedroom were extremely comfortable and gave us a great nights rest! Highly recommended!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: A real japanese ryokan experience (there were several japanese hosts). Perfect staff, very nice traditional room, large and clean. Nice onsen with garden view. Very goog dinner (kaiseki) and breakfast, better than others tried in Japan. Nice position close to the main touristic sites.
Cons: High price, but I suppose one couldn't expect to spend less for this.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Thank you for such an amazing stay. I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere Hoshino Yado created through the surrounding gardens, calming music and helpful staff.
Cons: N/A
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff very friendly and helpful. Food and service excellent, but you must like Japanese cooking (which we do)! Beautiful front garden.
Cons: Didn't have a chance to test the onsen, our own fault arriving too late.

Pros: Great meals and Onsen! The rooms are well-designed and very comfortable! Except the transport is not so convienient, everything is perfect.
9.6 Excellent
Cons: Location is fairly inaccessible
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Kaiseki dinner was amazing. Peaceful resort.
Cons: Communication was a bit difficult in English. Coming from Tokyo it was a bit far.
4.2 Okay
Cons: Unfortunately not worth the value for money. We’ve paid nearly USD 500,00 for one night expecting a high end experience at a traditional ryokan. However we found a worn out place , in urgent need of renovation. We couldn’t properly sleep as could hear people talking from the rooms next to ours. Bathroom utilities very old , and in need of a deep cleaning, same with private Onsen utilities. Onsen kit was a plastic bag , plus a very old body towel. Dinner Kaiseki style was ok . Breakfast was totally Japanese , not even coffee was served . Staff was friendly but very few could speak English. We’ve been to ryokans for this price range before and we’ve always had an exceptional experience, unfortunately we can’t say the same about Honke Bakyu .
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was excellent! It looked like we were in a dream
5.8 Okay
Pros: The private hot spring was very spacious and has a nice view of the river
Cons: The room we are put in had large number of bed bugs appearing from the crack in the wall and from underneath the tatami mat (we did not realize that these are bed bugs at first so we did not ask for the room to be changed). When we woke up in the morning there are several blood spots on the bed sheet. Few days after staying at the hotel we develop strong allergic reaction most likely caused by bites from these bugs.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Its amazing to have been staying in this historical accommodation.
9.2 Excellent

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely and quiet and next to the most beautiful river.
Cons: Nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location is really near the main temples. They gave us kimonos while we were there and the japanese baths were amazing. The staff is really nice. Highly recommend this place to stay.
Cons: Is not near the city center, but is not a negative point, the hotel is near the main attractions of the city, which are not in the city center. The only thing I think they could offer is the breakfast, as we already played near €90 for sleeping.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location! Within easy walking distance of Toshogu Shrine. Lots of good options to eat in the area. There are two onsen on site at the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: This was our favourite hotel in Japan (3 weeks travelling). It features a beautiful onsen, you get a yukata, free green tea and a simple yet good western-style breakfast. The temples are only 10 minutes away on foot, so it's the perfect location by the river. The staff were very friendly. We got a map from them. Also the most incredible meal from all our trip in Japan was taken 5 min away at Bell (shojin ryori, beware that it takes 45 min to prepare, more than worth it). We regret not staying for 2 or 3 nights in Nikko.
Cons: Our fault: we arrived after 7 pm in Nikko and there are no buses at this time! It is around 30-40 min walk from the station, uphill. Consider if you have luggage like us.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in Turtle Inn Nikko for 3days/2nights. It was awesome! We would totally stay here again. The owners were very friendly, they even gave us a map with details of things to do near the inn. The room was very cozy. It has everything we needed and more (like yukata, power strip, etc). The inn was in a quiet & pretty neighborhood. I loved the sound of the river just behind the inn. It's also walking distance to the famous complex of shrines & temples. There's a Lawson walking distance to it too, plus some good restaurants, so food was not a problem. The onsen was a nice bonus.
Cons: Nothing in particular. Everything was great!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was extremely friendly, great to have the hot baths, good sized room. They also have a dog who is lovely.
Cons: Showers finish at 9:30am which is fine unless you are not an early riser. They were however very lovely and allowed us to shower when we got up a little late

Pros: Staff were superb, very helpful. I was given a lift to the station early in the morning, and had hot water, tea and snacks in the room waiting each day. It's quite a cosy place, and some lovely views when walking in to Nikko down the hill. Thank you!
Cons: The walk from the station is uphill and about 25-30 minutes. This wasn't a negative for me as I'm used to hiking, just a note :)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It is the cozy place which provides necessary facilities you would need when traveling. Though it's a bit far from the train station, the owner offer transfer services. Home cooked breakfast and dinner are offered at reasonable prices. I'll definitely repeat my stay if I happen to go to Nikko sgain.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The owner was a really nice and helpful man who spoke very good English. It was nice to get out into the surrounding countryside away from the tourist hustle and bustle in the town. There is a waterfall about an extra 2km northeast from the pension. Room was nice and quiet with a private bathroom. The owner really went out his way and gave me some free watermelon upon my arrival and a paper fan as a parting gift to ward off the summer heat.
Cons: If you decide to walk to the pension from the center of town, you'd better do it before dark since you'll be on a semi country road. I probably should have emailed the owner for a free ride, but I only had a small backpack for luggage. I brought food too but if you don't, the pension can provide you with a meal. Its important that you reserve them in advance since the pension is small and independent. I don't really write reviews for booking that much but the owner treated me really well here so I'd like to personally wish him the best of luck. Wish I stayed 2 nights instead of 1 (I missed lake Chuzenji so you might want to consider it for a longer stay).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host has enough English language to help my terrible Japanese. I was offered dinner (extra cost) at no notice, driven to the evening "Light Up" in the gardens of the local Temple- no additional cost. I heard the host offer a french guest a lift back to town (Nikko) and after she declined he drew a map showing those restaurants open of an evening (many are closed) and insisted that she ask the Restaurateur call him that he might pics her up and return her to the hotel- about 1.6 km from the town of Nikko, close but a dark road. If you visit Nikko (you must, it is fantastic) this is an economical but good place to stay.
Cons: This is not the Ritz but considering the cost a great option, keep the extra cost of a swanky hotel to spend in Nikko, if you are concerned with flash and razzle then stay elsewhere, I would call this place good honest accommodation. Location is a walk from the station Tobu Nikko, about 1.6 km, buses are few and far between up the road, good for walkers, a little difficult if you do not want to stretch your legs. I laughed at the fact that my big feet are too big for the "inside slippers- if you are a US size 9 or10 or bigger bring a pair of clean slippers with you, useful elsewhere in Japan, culturally important

Pros: Beautifully located slightly outside of the center of Nikki, perfect as starting point for hiking and to chill and enjoy the nature

Pros: Staff hospitality and kindness.
Cons: Nothing
7.9 Good
Pros: Owner is delightful and helpful. Breakfast was a reasonable additional charge but was very good and well worth it. Clean and tidy but the facility is on the older side. That added some degree of charm but also signs of age. For example the carpet in our room was old, worn and stained. Still a comfortable place to shower, sleep and have a tasty breakfast before exploring Nikko.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were so warm and helpful in every way possible. Kazu-san is an amazing cook - the best breakfasts (by far!) in 7.5 months of my travel. He provided helpful maps, ideas of things to do, recommendations on logistics, and even gave me a couple of rides into town. It's a comfortable, homey place just outside of town. So beautiful waking up to birds chirping, walking over the bridge to admire the river/waterfalls. I loved every bit of this place -- especially Kazu-san and his sweet mother -- Best Hosts!
7.5 Good
Pros: The owner spoke English well and made an effort to be helpful and friendly. He took notice of the small things like changing my breakfast slightly every morning, having hot tea ready for me and putting cookies in my room on the last day. He also drove me to the station in the mornings and offered to pick me up between 4:00 ~ 5:00 in the afternoons.
Cons: It was difficult to get to and no public transport after 4:30 so you were forced to use taxis or hike 2kms up hill. You could have good meals there but the times were extremely limited, breakfast at 8:00, dinner at 6:00, this lack of flexibility made it harder to relax as I always had to be aware of the time and in a place you don't know, judging how long it will take you to return to your hotel can be difficult especially with such limited public transport ! It also made it difficult if you wanted to get out early to explore the further areas and miss the bus queues.

Pros: Loved our stay in a traditional Japanese room. Airy and comfortable, with a view of the river and mountains. Breakfast was great (both Western and Japanese), and we had a kaiseki meal that was fun and delicious. Staff was welcoming and helpful. Location is good -- we could walk into town and to the historic sites. Can definitely recommend!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: A nice hotel ryokan with outdoors onsen and big and comfy room. Excelente dinner and breakfast
Cons: Pillows could be better
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The service is excellent. We arrived on a rainy day. The staff help us dry the shoes by the shoe dryer immediately. Very kindly service.
Cons: We ordered Japanese style and Western style breakfast in the morning. It is a little strange the Western breakfast was placed inside the Japanese tableware.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The Onsen was great! They had 3 outdoor onsens, and one of them is a Jacuzzi. There were also a lot of great toiletries in the Onsen that we could use to pamper ourselves. We ended up buying some of the products from their gift shop which also provide tax free shopping. We could also relax on the massage chairs after the onsen bath. Walking distance to the temples and shrines so we were able to leave the car at the hotel and not have to pay parking fees if we were to drive closer to the temples/shrines. The meals were tasty and filling, we especially like the fresh yuba which was so creamy. The hotel also sold entrance tickets to the 3 main temples/shrines, which is useful to avoid queues during peak periods. Very friendly and helpful staff. I like that they have a special area for us to sit down and enjoy some tea and sweets while checking in instead of standing at the front desk. For ladies, we get a choice of yukata as well.
Cons: Not much.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed being able to eat our meals in our room since we have a baby. The onsen was also beautiful and clean. The location can't be beat either! So close to many of the main sites.
Cons: The room was a little bit dangerous for a mobile baby as there were lots of breakable items within reach! That is typical of a ryokan though so I didn't mind too much!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very delicious dinner and breakfast. Nice view from the room and convenient location.
Cons: Room is bit hot in the night. Although we shut down the air conditions but still feel pretty hot when sleeping.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: After admiring at the gorgeous shrines and temples, and the kanmangafuchi abyss, I was greeted in the ryokan with hot matcha and sweets, and a really friendly manager. What can be more comforting in a wintery afternoon. Yes, soaking in onsen while admiring the mountains and rivers, and the sumptuous dinner. The staff is amazing and the location is superb.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The staff was fantastic! All of them were simply wonderful! Spacious room with a great view. A classical hotel with an onsen - very good quality. Close to the World Heritage sites.
Cons: It's a bit older, but it didn't disturb much.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We stayed 3 night at Senhime Monogatari october/November 2018, and It was a wonderful experience. You can’t judge the hotel/ryokan by normal western preunderstanding. The hotel has it’s own norm, own speed, own way of doing things and own philosophy. We got a fantastic and positive lesson of practiced omotenashi, the special Japanese service philosophy. We chose a Japanese styled room, with private bathtub, a kind of outside room with a view to volcano mountains, mountain river and yellow/red leafs on trees. The Japanese styled room was equipped with tatami mats, traditional Japanese low chairs and table. We got kimonos, and different kimono overlayers to chose from, Japanese wooden clippers and simple indoor filt shoes. The bed was made for us every evening during our diner downstairs. And removed during the breakfast. We slept on mats on the floor, it was a little uncomfortable for us and we adjusted with an extra mat. The breakfast and dinner is a whole story for it’s self, and giving a massive value to the stay. This is Japanese food at it’s best. The hotel has a Shuttlebus service to Tobu station, and within 100 meters there is bus stop no. 8 to the lakes and falls. Notice that the bus on busy days will be packed at stop no.8

Pros: Friendly welcome, small but Nice and neat Japanese style rooms, lovely onsen, lovely kimono’s to borrow during your stay and a super nice breakfast. Bonus: the temples are within walking distance and the statues with red scarfs and a small cemetery are just around the corner, so perfect for an early morning disc

Pros: Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff, walking distance to bus station (10min). Right by beautiful forest. The hot bath is great and for single use. Would definitely stay there again.

Pros: Room was nice and comfortable. Stuff is nice and helpfull.
Cons: Aircon need to be cleaned, coz it smells like something died inside when u enter the room.
7.5 Good
Pros: It is so nice to have a hot spring experience.
Cons: Need some meats of the breakfast.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: I had difficulty getting the the Ryokan at first but when I finally arrive all my stress melted away. Friendly staff who were very helpful and attentive. They even showed me on a map where popular tourism sites are. For a 1,000 yen, you can have breakfast in the morning that is healthy and refreshing way to start off your day. Also, a hot spring on the property which is perfect after a long day exploring Nikko. A walk away from famous Shrines. My advice make sure you get off at bus stop 8 or 9.
Cons: Maybe some directions provided for the guests. The address doesn’t work with some apps.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Such friendly hosts always ready to help. If you want to see the river when you’re in the Onsen make sure you use it before dark ;)
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It has a private onsen, which can be used if vacant (suggested max time of 30 minutes). The tatami floor is nice. The location is good, with a lot of green and the river right next to it. Many tourist attractions are close by.
Cons: It has quite thin walls, it was quite noisy between the other guests (clsoing doors and such), the river and the cicadas. The room was very bright in the morning, as it lacks curtains (paper windows to darken only).
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The price was right and it is in a quiet neighborhood close to the heritage sites. The private sauna was a nice surprise.
Cons: The door of the sauna slams shut, which we could hear throughout the night – it’s probably a simple fix on the hotels part...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: I have been here several times over the last 20 years. Friendly service and close to all the sights. The tatami rooms are great as is the onsen.
Cons: Everything was good - no problems whatsoever.
7.5 Good
Pros: Bath room
Cons: Location. Difficult to find place to eat near there

Pros: The countryside. Very clean. The owner brought us to a very familiar and unique onsen, and so cheap! There is a shuttle bus. Very relaxing.
Cons: It is a bit far from the station. But there is a shuttle service. And the landscape is amazing. Very hard pillow.

Pros: In a great location just outside of the town in a peaceful and pleasant environment very close to the Natural Hot Springs! The owner Yuji was very kind and helpful, he recommended the best things to do in Nikko and a personal highlight was the Onsen which he took us to! A pleasurable stay in this traditional authentic lodge with lots of instructions so you’re never lost of what to do or how to do it! Would stay again:)

Pros: Our stay was really nice, we actually extended it! Really clean and nice owner who has recommendations for the area. It was very convenient to be picked up at the train station, be dropped off as well as being brought to the onsen at night :) thank you!!
Cons: The only thing which was a little hard to get used to was the hardness of the pillows but there is a massage chair in the common area which will make you feel fresh again :)
