Travelers seeking minimalist jungle luxury will find it at the Andaz Peninsula Papagayo, an architectural stunner that appears to be built into the side of a cliff. The chic hotel often attracts a younger, well-heeled clientele, as well as thirty-something couples who want to be wined and dined.
Spread across 28 hilly acres with jaw-dropping scenery, the Andaz is on the exclusive Papagayo Peninsula, a hideaway in Costa Rica’s northwest Guanacaste province. The peninsula location offers a few luxury hotels, a beach club, and a marina. This is not the place for travelers who want to explore the region, but rather for those seeing seclusion. The wildly beautiful scenery also offers travelers a chance to see and hear howler monkeys and spot exotic birds.
There are two beaches at the Andaz, and it is literally a hike through woodsy paths and tree roots to reach them. The first beach is known for its activities while the second beach is quiet with softer and whiter sand. The two pool areas, but essentially four pools, are a major draw for guests. There is one adult-only pool and three pools for families. Also, on-site, are a luxury spa, fitness center, and over 8,000 square feet of event space. All amenities are housed in dozens of tree house like buildings.
The 153 minimalist rooms are spacious with nice features and loads of amenities. Beds seem to float, and a large wooden structure in the center of the room holds essentials such as ironing equipment and a coffeemaker, as well as extras like umbrellas, flip-flops, flashlights and beach bags. A stocked mini bar and drawer of snacks are free. Bathrooms are luxurious, with a spa-like feeling and massive rainfall showers.
