Reception staff were excellent. Hotel really nice. Good area to explore from.
St. Märgen is such a wonderfully small village that any property is a great location, this one especially because if the great view we were afforded from our little balcony. The entire hotel has been renovated since my last visit, and it is very nice and new.
We chose to take a room on one floor where an elevator is not available. Since my previous visits were ALL without elevator support I didn’t mind a bit (we looked at the room before choosing it) but as years progress the stairs are more of a challenge. Loved it anyway!
The hotel is situated in a lovely part of St Märgen and accessible for day trips around the Black Forest. The view was spectacular.
The bed was ok even though we expected a double bed not two singles next to each other. When we enquired about this, we were informed that double beds did not exist in that hotel. Also the bathroom is small and very old style which didn’t compliment the actual bedroom decor which was nice. When looking for the hotel we saw one photo which had a modern bathroom and when we asked to change our room we were told that all bathrooms were the same. The thing which annoyed us the most was during breakfast time. We were there when the temperature was very hot (+30 Degrees) and when we used to go to the breakfast lounge (around 09:30hrs) there were too many flies around the food which put us off completely. We recommended to the staff to cover the food at least but this was not taken into consideration and the situation remained the same for the rest of our days at the hotel.
Room was comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Good restaurant and bar with shady outside seating.
The room overlooked a very busy noisy road. Constant heavy lorries and motorbikes. The room did not have air conditioning so it was necessary to keep the window open in the heat.
Great buffet style breakfast with high quality bread, cheeses, meats etc.
When you stay at DER HIRSCHEN in Sankt Maergen, you'll be 8 minutes by car from Abbey of Saint Peter in the Black Forest. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
