Beautiful house and grounds, fantastic service from John and Nancy, amazing breakfast (was a bit like being in Downton Abbey!). Also you have to try in inside slippery slide!
A proper door into the bathroom instead of the louvred one which lets light and sound through.
The place was fabulous, the nicest property we have stayed in, the room was palatial and there was a pool and tennis court. The biggest bathroom we have ever seen, super toiletries, luxurious bed and dressing room area. Absolutely lovely. John spent some time chatting to us the first night and they were very attentive.
The atmosphere was however a little unrelaxing unfortunately because in our opinion the hosts tried just a bit too hard and as a result they were over attentive, for example we had to pre-order breakfast by 7.30pm the night before and were chased if we didn't, despite there not really being that many options, and we were asked numerous times at what point in the breakfast we wanted our hot food so breakfast was unrelaxed and rather hushed. My husband unfortunately also dropped a plate of fruit and while John handled it well, Nancy seemed quite put out by it and we felt distinctly uncomfortable after that. Shame as the place is gorgeous and had it been a bit more relaxing it would have been idyllic.
We found them exceptionally friendly and hospitable. Did our washing and refused payment. Produced an excellent dinner since it was Christmas Day and the local restaurants were closed. Five star rating!
We liked nothing. It was not to cater for New Zealanders only nieve traveralers. This gives a bad impression of new Zealanders. New Zealand is not like this accomodation.
Hindu gods everywhere. Lady said she could cook and the omelet was well below par. The bed was hard. We felt uncomfortable. Paid for 2 nights and only stayed 1. We will not be using booking.com again. We have used them before but never again.
Lovely house in the quiet semi-rural outskirts of Taupo, just a 10 minute drive into town. Beautiful large suite with large bathroom, and overlooking the extensive gardens. Our hosts were great - we appreciated their recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. It really did feel like a private retreat.
