The owners of the property were very friendly and helpful and they let us have an early check-in after an horrendous journey on our motorcycle in a thunderstorm. Thanks again for letting us dry all our gear in the boiler room.
All good for us!
Friendly and inexpensive. Garage parking for bikes. Owners clearly love music. A lot of connected paired rooms, so would probably be good for families.
Noisy (situated next to a heavily traveled road and near the train tracks) and a little bit of a jumble in terms of decoration and layout.
We are fans of Old World Europe, so we loved this hotel. It is really ancient, built in the mid-17th century with those half-timbered walls, cast-iron candlesticks, etc. The room and bathroom were also ancient -- as in, decorated in the 1970's. We loved it! If you are into German Kitsch, you'll adore this hotel. They use real keys to the rooms too, always a plus. We had a view of the vineyards from our room. The town is right on the Moselle River, and also close to the Schloss (Eltz). The host/proprietress was really nice and helpful, and seemed to be among the few in the town who had an excellent command of English. Breakfast was in fact sumptuous, really over-the-top great. Whatever you want to eat for breakfast, it's there. Next visit we will just eat dinner there and sample from their EXTENSIVE wine list (which is in a wooden book with squeaky hinges, you gotta love that!). You can park in the unpaved lot in the back, no problem.
Please don't take the hotel host's advice and go to the Patry for dinner. It was hands-down one of the worst restaurant meals we've ever experienced, and we eat out a lot. We were looking for an "authentic" German restaurant, and this was what she suggested. We were there over an hour before our meal arrived, and it wasn't worth the wait. Take note: there doesn't seem to be any sauerkraut to be had in the town whatsoever!
Old house well restored, excellent breakfast, good service
Directions to Burg Eltz should have been better
Pleasant hosts, garage for motorbike parking, reasonable price for beer and accommodation. Good location. Good breakfast. Good crack in the bar, friendly helpful owners. All in all an excellent stop.
