Small hotel and very cozy atmosphere
The pool is very nice
Upon arrival we carry our luggages and waited in reception for someone to arrive as the place was empty except the guard. We book the apartment and first reception guy told us that they don't find our booking then we came into the apartment and there was strong smell of mold, we have a baby so we told them that there is no way that we can stay in the apartment, so they gave us a room instead, they wanted higher price then booking, then I cancelled the booking and made a new one. We got the room with a dirty sheets with bugs all over them, we went to see 2 more room until we saw a normal room. Their is no stuff available most of the time.
Stylish decoration, nice and friendly staff
It was very dead and deserted. I don't want to get the staff into trouble because this wasnt their fault. The property just didnt engage enough. there was never anyone around. I didnt have breakfast any of the days because even at 930 am there was no one at reception. No one at the bar / cafe area. I finally asked the sweeper to call someone just to get a coffee so i could head out. My husband was at Dream Sea Surf Camp 650 metres away for 10 days. I wanted to visit for the weekend - but it was such a bad vibe we just came back to sleep after 10 pm and left by 9 ish . Even the wifi didnt work! So i couldnt even send a few mails and had to do even that at DreamSea. When we came back at night the room smelt stuffy (from the smell from the AC). But it goes away after 45 mins to an hour. Just the initial 30 minutes is quite bad (i was in room #5). There are bright lights kept on till very late at night. But no blackout curtains. So its hard to fall asleep at night when there's bright white light outside the room. There was a Fur Elise alarm from somewhere that went off at 8 or 830 am everyday. Didnt sound like a guest's alarm but an alarm of the property (or maybe the neighbors). But it was very loud and heard inside the room. I couldn't find an iron in the room. Since there's never anyone around i gave up. I feel guilty trashing a place so much. So please treat this as feedback for improvement and keep this feedback private (ie this is not to be disclosed on the website / publicly). Hope W15 Ahangama can improve and sustain.
The staff (except the manager) were good. There’s a nice sea view from the far corner of the property.
The room itself wasn’t clean, the air conditioning couldn’t be controlled - the remote didn’t work. There were dead mosquitoes stuck to the pillows & bed sheets and there were cockroaches in the room. The amenities shelves were dusty, the outdoor bathroom was terrible! There’s a disgusting black plastic tarp you’re supposed to use as a curtain but there’s still no privacy (I don’t want to use the toilet in full view of the person I’m sharing a room with!) and there were bugs galore (I know this is a tropical country but imagine the amount of bugs that will come for you whilst you’re sat on the toilet!). The hotel does not make it clear there is an outdoor bathroom on its facilities description, and they make you prepay for the room at check in so you can’t demand to leave if you don’t like the room! Breakfast was uninspiring, burnt hoppers, veg curry option was carrots & onions - so many vegetables available in Sri Lanka, and only carrots available here! They have enough space to grow veg, if the management are too cheap to go to the market. The pool looked ok, the cabanas and seats are run down, in serious need of maintenance. The sister property in Weligama is lovely (we escaped and spent our whole day there!) and I can only imagine this is highly rated because of that hotel, there is no way this is 4/5*.
