I loved the charm & character of the house & gardens & attention to the nicest details in the room.
The staff were amazing and our room was great with very comfortable beds
Breakfast is always fun, tasty and filling at the Pendray. Staff very friendly and helpful. This was our third visit and we have enjoyed each of our stays. Close to the harbor easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and fun activities.
Little hard for an older person to get in and out of the claw foot bath tub/shower No AC so room was rather warm but the weather was great.
The achitecture of the building did not disappoint - it is beautiful, albeit a bit rundown. The Pendray Room was lovely, romantic, bright and a good size, with a comfortable bed and large bay windows, overlooking the street and harbour. We were able to sit out on the balcony attached to the room and listen to the Blues Bash Music Festival from there. The Pendray Inn is in a good, walkable location, staff were friendly and the breakfast/tea was delicious.
As mentioned, we loved the building but were sad to see it was run down in appearance; most exterior surfaces were in need of cleaning/paint resurfacing and our room had a large stain on the carpet. Although the linens/towels in the bedroom, bathroom and teahouse appeared crisp and clean, there was dust on most exterior surfaces, spider/cob webs in several of the main level interior room corners/fixtures, the what-could-be-gorgeous hardwood floors were dull/unpolished and there was spider web debris and dead flies sitting on the window ledge at our table in the breakfast room. We understand it's an old building but that wasn't what we anticipated, considering we spent $400/night for the experience. The staff were lovely and friendly but it seems they could use a full-time maintenance person on site. One other aspect we hadn't considered; if you are considering booking The Pendray Room, expect line ups of passerbys to take photos of the house (along with you) when you are on the balcony and in your room. It is such a lovely property and although we enjoyed the "Victorian romance" aspect of our stay, we would think twice about paying that much there, in future.
Elegant. Historic. Peaceful. Comfortable. Location, gardens, view - spectacular!
Enjoy a unique Victorian experience. The historic Pendray Inn and Tea House was built as a private residence in the late 1890's. Today, it boasts a unique collection of 9 distinctive suites all with their own personality and charm. The interior of the mansion boasts beautiful original woodwork, stained glass windows and crystal chandeliers. The tea room, located on the first floor of the Mansion, offers traditional afternoon tea and is currently opened Wednesday through Sundays. The mansion occupies a prominent location on the edge of Victoria's Inner Harbour and is surrounded by elegantly landscaped gardens, wandering pathways and lovely fountains. In addition to the Pendray Inn and Tea House, two other historic buildings; the Middle House and the Judges House, add to the charm of the surrounding grounds. The Pendray Inn and Tea House offers authenticity, warmth and character. It ideally caters to those looking for a romantic getaway, couple's retreat, social or corporate guests. Please note that as the Pendray Inn is a heritage home, it does not offer wheelchair access or elevators. We are pleased to assist with your luggage handling day or night.
