Bed & Breakfast Exterlaer - Antwerp - Building
1
9.6 Excellent (107 reviews)
C$ 165+
Overview Reviews
Located in Antwerp, Bed and Breakfast Exterlaer is within a 10-minute drive of Wijnegem Shopping Center and Antwerp Zoo.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautifully restored house in a quiet residential area. Friendly owners. Nice breakfast with high quality ingredients. We did not sit in the garden as it was too cold outside but in summer it must be a lovely spot to have breakfast.
Cons: Minor comments: parking is for free but it might take some time to find a parking spot as it is located in a residential area. Curtains do not obscure the room completely so you wake up at sunrise.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Unbelievably clean tidy with a cool twisting mix of modern and old - very very cool
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Decoration, hospitality, lication
Cons: Everyting! Complete perfection!!! And fantastic decoration & style, designed by the very talented host himself, perfect breakfast, beautiful garden, one of the greatest hospitality experience and close to the biggest natural swimming pond in Belgium, the Sportpaleis, the Riverenhof and the centre of Antwerp. I am a fan!!!!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners ,who live in the the adjacent townhouse , were gracious and informative. They are artists who beautifully restored ed and furnished the property. The Exterlaer perfectly met our locational needs, and met our it "charm standard" . It is located in an early twentieth century neighborhhod with a diversity of architecture. Free parking was available about a block away.Parking in Central Antwerp is expensive and restricted. A tram, however is located a half block away ,and it provides easy access to Central Antwerp as well as the Osli Coglei (sp?) art nouveau district, Antwerpen is an overlooked city,
Cons: Nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very helpful, made us feel very welcome. The bed was very comfy, the room was lovely. The breakfast in the morning was superb.
Cons: I had a problem with opening the front door with the code. The problem was not with the code itself but turning the knob of the door in the right direction.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The house and decor are very attractive and the rooms expansive. The location is close to the city centre easily accessible by No 9 tram. There is an excellent restaurant nearby. The continental breakfast is very comprehensive and tasty catering for all tastes. Daniel and Linda are truly wonderful hosts, nothing is too much trouble and they are very knowledgeable with reference to the local area and the city. If I should need to stay in Antwerp again then undoubtedly it would be here!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Host very friendly. Quite place. Nice breakfast
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I think Bed & Breakfast Exterlaer is a guest house rather than a hotel. I would say that it is really cozy and welcoming. Interior inside is basically a home. There is even a cat that will come to say hello at a breakfast! The hotel is located in a quiet and nice area and there is a park nearby. There is a tram line No.9 that will take you to the center of the city in 15 minutes. The hosts attitude is very pleasant. In the beginning I was maybe a little bit confused by the attention from the hosts (that you normally don't get at hotels), but then I got used to it and realized that it is actually a hospitality. The only thing I could point out is that the house has wooden floors inside and when people walk and talk in the staircase one can hear it from the room. But this was not really a problem for me.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Best hosts ever! Very recommended
10.0 Excellent
Pros: very friendly hosts, very tidy and clean rooms with a nice atmosphere. Good restaurant very close for a late night snack after arrival.

Pros: The room was large and very comfortable. The bathroom and shower were excellent. The bed was super king and very comfortable. It was very close to the station which we used to travel inexpensively to Brussels. It was also just a short walk to the historic centre of Antwerp where there was so much to see and do. Rubens house the cathedral the printing museum. The art gallery was fantastic. The cathedral is a must as is the station which is like a cathedral. Luc and lilliane are wonderful hosts nothing too much trouble and very helpful with directions. All in all a great stay all felt very relaxed and friendly. Would highly recommend the property.

Pros: Very helpful owners. Amazing comic library. Helped with heavy luggage. Quirky overall.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very cool location, beautifully decorated rooms and a friendly host
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The name "B&B The Baron" was quite appropriate. My wife and I felt like we were Baron and Baroness. The B&B was unassuming from the outside but once you enter, you feel like you are transported back in time. The breakfast setting was the most elegant setting we ever experienced. I was fortunate enough to be invited into Luc's library full of his collections of comic books - what an amazing experience. The location was very close to Antwerpen-Centraal and Luc's suggested walk proved to be an excellent introduction. Following his advise we took a long walk on the day of arrival, giving us the first look at the must-see sights. I had a magnificent view of the city from the ferries wheel at the Steenplein and great 360-degree sunset view of the city and the port from the Panorama, the 10th floor roof terrace at MAS. We even had local beer and listened to music at a beer garden on the way to MAS.
Cons: Payment by credit card rather than cash would have been more convenient.

Pros: The room was very nice and well located to The MAS building. Staff were very friendly.
Cons: Seem to be very expensive. The breakfast was over priced and limited in variety. Was very easy to wander into the red light area on your way to town although the hotel is located in a nice area. For the price paid would have been nice to have more than 1 coffee and tea available in the room.

Pros: Apprently we were satisfied with staying here. But we would not come back. Impressive bath system, braod main bed and tidy kitchen were there.
Cons: however second bed wasn’s good and breakfast was not good enough. A man delivered a heavy tray to 3rd floor. That was colourful but lukewarm, unfresh bread, no fruit with some mini tomatos. I have to give 7 star

Cons: Location isn't very central but only a 10 min cab ride

Pros: Our host were very friendly and helpful. They provided us a lot of information about Antwerp and provided a map with pointing out some places to visit. We asked for the availability of the poll in the morning and it was provided the same day. The breakfast was huge and delicious and the variation of the different food was enough for the days we stayed. The room was clean and big and the beds were comfortable. We would definitely come back.
Cons: Nothing to mention.
7.0 Good
Cons: There is a disco studio downstairs and although we were told that we won't hear any noise being on the 2nd floor it was not possible to sleep until 2am in the morning.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location was very central, easy to walk everywhere. The room and the bathroom were spacious. The breakfast was very good. The ironing facilities in the room were an extra bonus. You can feel that the owners care about the guests and want them to enjoy the stay.
Cons: We arrived on the late afternoon of a hot day and as the room was on the last floor, directly under the roof it was VERY hot and stuffy in the room. I wish the aircon was on before our arrival as in other hotels as it took really a long time for the room to cool down. Small but important things spoiled otherwise very good impression: the tiny toilet needs a ventilator to be installed ( one can easily suffocate in it!), the shower is very good but there is no shelf for the shower gel, it would be nice to have a mirror in the room, not only in the bathroom).
6.3 Good
Pros: Situation, breakfast, staff
Cons: Very hot in the room without A/C
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Clean, authentic Flemish architecture in a cool neighbourhood near museums, away from main touristy areas. Breakfast was to die for with its variety and freshness of products.
Cons: Should have had two bottles of bottled water for free as most 4 star hotels that we have visited in the past month have had.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The area was quiet but surrounded by the plenty of restaurants, bars and cafes. Helpful staff, nice facilities and a good buffet breakfast. Can definitely recommend.
Cons: Nothing, albeit that it is just a bit on the pricy side.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Although the building itself is quite old, the room is so clean and we were able to stay here nice and comfortable. I would come back to this hotel again.
Cons: The room was a little warm and we wanted to control the room temperature.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice old building, excellent location, convenient parking
Cons: ./.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Friendliness of staff. Location was quiet and not far from the main city centre, lots of cafes, restaurants and shops.
Cons: Hotel Room disappointing, but spotlessly clean, dated furniture, tea and coffee making facilities would be useful. First Room was on 4th Floor, attic room, very dark, no opening windows, just a skylight in the bedroom, very hot, smell of sewers, air conditioning had not been turned on, very claustrophobic. We asked for a different room and the staff were very helpful, the 2nd room on the 3rd floor was adequate, furnishings need updating.

Pros: Great location. Staff very helpful, parking garage attached. Excellent air conditioning, which was a nice relief!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: thank you for the hummus at breakfast, the soft boiled eggs. the quiet, for the pleasant help for the great location
Cons: The art on the walls, I took some of it down. nothing on the walls would have been better. Something authentic from the flea market or old posters would be better, in my opinion

10.0 Excellent
Pros: I really enjoyed the breakfast, it was good value for money and it's a very nice touch that it is brought to your room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Nice calm and cleaver designed hotelroom in the middle of Atntwerpen
Cons: Little dangerous staircase
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Very kind staff, we called the owner and told them we would arrive after midnight and she was being very helpful to let us to pick up the key. Great location, the famous shopping street is less than 10 mins walking distance and it is right next to a church, super cool. Unique building, it is a very old building with a nice design.
Cons: The stair going up to bedroom is a bit narrow and would be easy to fall down from it even if we didn't. Yet, we had to walk very carefully.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nicely located. Loved the mix of the old church wall, the old floor with the modern shower and furniture. Staff was professional and friendly. Will come again, really enjoyed my stay!
Cons: Some dust under the chair and bed in my room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing experience overall.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A great standard, crockery, bathroom fixtures & fittings, comfortable very big bed! Lovely quiet courtyard outside, which would be perfect for a morning breakfast or evening drink. Collection of key very simple and handy too.
Cons: The stairs are very steep and narrow footing so didn't feel I could carry my suitcase upstairs. Having said that there is nothing that the owners can do to rectify this, but its mindful that if you have a heavy or large suitcase, leave it downstairs.
7.5 Good
Cons: The lack of the a door between the toilet and the bedroom
5.8 Okay
Cons: Everything was really tiny and looked way bigger on the photos. The stair are really steep therefore it‘s impossible to get the luggage to the bedroom, but there wouldn‘t be space anywhere... We wanted to sleep a little bit longer but they clean the appartment only till 11am.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: I had a great stay at Bernardin. A gorgeous property in a quiet location, yet close to the Historic centre. The owners were more than helpful and breakfast was delicious! I would definitely recommend.
Cons: I didn't have a problem with them, but the stairs are very steep! So for anyone that has mobility issues it would be very difficult and not recommended.

Pros: Location
Cons: Steep steps

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great facilities, comfy bed and stylish.
Cons: Nothing. Was satisfied with everything.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Room was very clean, spacious and well designed. We were offered either a room at the front or the back of the hotel, where the latter would be more quiet. We choose one at the front and there was no noise at all, the city is very quiet overall. The availability of a Chromecast on the tv was a nice suprise. Staff was friendly and the breakfast was very good! Lots to choose from and all very tasty.
Cons: There is no amenity kit in the bathroom, something I normally wouldn't even notice. The same holds for a place to put the soap or a toothbrush. The heated mirror kinda makes up for it.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel, located in the centre of Antwerp. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Also the interior was amazing, well decorated.
Cons: N.v.t
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Clean, with a very nice staff, and good size room. Directly across from the zoo and train station. Quiet, especially considering the location. All public transport, city bikes, and electric scooters are just out front. Good value for money.
Cons: It’s a bit farther out from the old town center than expected. Coaches, buses, and trams stop right out front. There is also a large Ferris Wheel from the zoo so there are a lot of people waiting around at all hours. Was awoken by an accidental call from the front desk at 1:00 in the morning for a pizza delivery that I didn’t order. Please match names and not just room numbers before calling rooms.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location and good service

Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Beds not overly comfortable and the location was a fair walk to the centre.
6.3 Good
Pros: The location was good.
Cons: The air conditioning did not work for 3 days. The shower floods every time. The sink was very grubby. Could not turn on 50% of the room lights. The maid topped up the coffee capsules but left no milk.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent neighbourhood location with boutiques, restaurants and bars.
Cons: Absolutely nothing.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Loved everything about this hotel!
Cons: Not applicable
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Property is really nice, the rooms are trendy and got all the comfort you need. The restaurant downstairs is really nice too and the whole thing is beautifully located in Antwerp’s vibrant South area.
Cons: It’s not a dislike more like a little inconvenience is in the bathroom, if turn on the tab fully you get soaked, but that’s a real tiny thing and didn’t really do anything to the overall experience. Will definitely go back there in the future, it’s too nice!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Staff were superb and nothing eas too much trouble. Location was good too
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It's absolutely lovely to be able to sleep in a room with high ceilings.
Cons: An extra towel.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Awesome hotel. Located on a cozy square with local bars and restaurants. Great and spacious rooms with a big bed and huge tub. Would recommend!
Cons: We read that the food bar downstairs was really good as well. We went there to get breakfast but had to wait over an hour to get our food. That’s too long to wait for breakfast, but the food was awesome!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The position of the hotel and the general vibe is amazing. Effortlessly cool but understated. The room was stunning, so much light also. A relaxed and comfortable place to spend time. The restaurant and bar are well designed and the staff were great, the little shop was interesting and full of eclectic pieces.
Cons: Not much to say here, other than the big white LCD tv kind of ruined the beautifully deigned interior of the room. I don’t need a tv when I’m on holiday, but that’s just me!

Pros: The location.
Cons: The bathroom was not clean when we first checked in, we asked for another room. The AC is very noisy and annoying. On the checkout day they kept banging on the door very rude and yelling even though it wasn’t late. A lady (house keeping) was standing out the door on the phone yelling as well.
