The Restaurant was very good and good value for money.

The drinks in the Bar at Reception were very expensive, i.e. 8.50 for a Vodka and tonic!!! The room had a smell of stale cigarettes and backed onto a busy road, so was noisy,

The Campanile have a familiar layout which we like and the staff were friendly and informative. The room was air-conditioned and the bathroom very well appointed, I particularly appreciated the generous size of the washbasin and the mist free mirror above. So many times I find bathrooms so cramped it's difficult to wet shave as I'm tall. There was also lots of room to put your toiletries. There was also a kettle in the room to make tea or coffee. Our room was at the back of the block on the first floor level with a common open balcony providing access to all rooms. We didn't mind that or that our view was some grass and a boundary hedge. We didn't appreciate that there was a container for cigarette butts on the wall 30 cm outside our door as we don't smoke. We thought that would encourage smokers to stand beside our door to indulge their sad habit. As far as I could see that was the 'smoking area' for all rooms on our balcony. Who thought that would be a good idea? Luckily, I had some adhesive tape with me which I used to seal it off and we weren't bothered by smokers during our stay. There is a restaurant on site which we didn't use and a bar which is quiet but comfortable. The Campanile is situated in a complex of offices, exhibition halls and hotels outside Bordeaux and there is a choice of restaurants nearby. As we generally avoid hotel restaurants, we walked to the Italian Del'Art beside McDonalds which was excellent and good value. The area generally is well kept and tidy and the lake is nice though all activities seem to be situated on the far side of the water. The tram stop is handy enough to the hotel. In fact that was one of the reasons I picked the location as I thought it would be easy to get into the city using the tram. Unfortunately, the tramlines were being altered and the tram didn't go all the way to the centre.

Apart from the smelly provision for smokers being outside our door there was little to complain about. Our experience of the location was impacted by the incomplete service of the tram which, of course, is outside the control of the hotel. We didn't like standing at the unlit bus top in the city waiting for the bus to take us back to where the tram stopped. A working tram would bring the hotel closer to the city.

The Receptionist Laura was very helpful

I will never stay at one these hotels again. The room showed its age and the food in the restaurant was awful. Laura in reception was very helpful but the Restaurant Manager was both rude and unhelpful. The salad was old, the meat was only just edible and the single slice of desert cost me 11 euros! I shall be writing to trip advisor.
