The gardens are stunning. The staff are amazing
Stayed in the stunning Queen Anne suite in a 16th century Tudor mansion....with only one other guest due to the current emergency lockdown. What's not to like!
For working, the wifi system was not great. You seemed to only be able to connect one device to the free wifi by registering your name, email etc. So if you have laptop plus mobile phone plus any other internet-enabled devices it seems you can only connect one to the wifi at a time.....the system needs upgrading!
The service and food in the restaurant was good
The suite was shabby, particularly the bathroom, our room wasn’t ready even though we paid for early check in, the champagne and chocolates I’d pre ordered for the room weren’t in there, we had to ask for them. The afternoon tea with coffee arrived with tea not coffee and every sandwich tasted of fish, even the cheese ones and egg mayonnaise. The breakfast service was terrible, nobody came to serve us, we asked to be served but nothing changed, so we tried the buffet, but this was all meat and we are vegetarians. We got no coffee and there was no way of making our own except In our room. There were many people complaining at checkout and we asked to see the manager Prem Kumar. He promised to email us and rectify the problems by us going back to stay at a ‘quieter time’ but we were so disappointed, this was our 25th wedding anniversary and we couldn’t get that back, plus finding the time and childcare again was going to be a challenge. We wanted to leave as fast as we could but then realised we’d been overcharged by nearly £500!!! This took a week of phone calls to sort out. Just so disappointed, we would never go back. The manager’s promises were empty, no follow up was made, no email came to arrange another stay as promised.
A beautiful old English hotel, maintained to the highest of standards, highly recommend.
Beautiful hotel and gardens. Very comfortable - couldn’t be better.
