9.2 Excellent
Pros: Despite being in an unlikely part of town, the ryokan was very authentic: the garden is wonderful especially at night; the staff could not have been more helpful. Our two rooms were spacious and close together which helped as a family group. And the Kaiseki dinner was excellent.
Cons: Being an older property, some of the decor is rather tired, but that adds strangely to the charm!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Both the half board breakfast and dinner were great. value for money, if you are looking for a nice japanese dining experience, it was good.
Cons: Not too much, pretty much liked everythinbg
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff were generally friendly. Not many speak english but then again, they should not really have to. You are in Japan. The onsen (hot springs) facilities were amazing and there is also a free table tennis area. The decor and hotel grounds are really beautiful. Probably the most unique you will ever find.
Cons: Too many room visits by staff. In an attempt to be helpful you often cannot get any rest. For example, being chased for breakfast, being asked for room clean (there are no do not disturb signs), then you get separately asked for towels or yukata changes. You can get up to 4/5 visits in a day. If you try to have an afternoon nap, forget about it.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was beautiful. My partner and I really enjoyed exploring the hotel itself, admiring all the lush trees, flowers, and impressive rocks! The onsen was spectacular and well kept. We really enjoyed having a traditional Japanese dinner served in our room, had the best meat in my life.
Cons: My partner and I compared the sizes of the onsens, and we found that the male's side was much larger! I didn't like that.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very Good food (especially the dinner), Great view&environment, Best service, Nice rooms, beyond expectation! Love this hotel!
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Interior of the hotel is spectacular. Room was large with both tatami and western sitting areas. Very clean and well maintained facilities. Men's furo is large with moderate water temperature. Ladies' is smaller. We were there during sakura blossom timing and the small river flowing in front of the hotel was lit up and beautiful at night.
Cons: The town around the ryokan is nothing to write home about.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The Japanese garned is magnificent, the building is proper classic
Cons: The futons were slightly too thin
10.0 Excellent
Pros: the entire place is like museum, I've never seen such curiosities in hotels!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful gardens. The most magnificent I have seen at a hotel. Despite reports of tired and dirty rooms on the web, these seem to be from a few years ago and ours seemed well kept
Cons: Some hall carpets are looking very worn, but it looks like they are replacing them. In room evening meal was rushed, as they had a large group meal and needed all staff to help
7.5 Good
Pros: The gardens and lobby are beautiful and well thought out. The room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice view out in to the pond. The onsen and spa area was compact yet luxurious. The toiletries and amenities are plentiful. The meals were traditionally Japanese are very Instagram-worthy. A member of the staff helped with English translations while we were there. The hotel was quick to reply to inquiries and provided pick-up from the station.
Cons: As some reviews mentioned, away from the main lobby the carpets and furniture are faded and well-worn. The rooms have a slightly musty smell that may come from the mats but is not unbearable. I wish that the staff had told us more about ryokan living like how to wear the yukata, proper onsen etiquette and what exactly we were eating for breakfast and dinner. Sure, we can use Youtube and Google translate to figure these things out, it would greatly enhance our experience if a small pamphlet was provided for foreigners in order to avoid any cultural faux pas.

Pros: The breakfast and dinner we're delicious. The service is also great. No one spoke English but they use Google translate to communicate with the guests.
Cons: The meals were on strict time periods. If you don't show up for that time you will miss your meal. I ended up bringing my girlfriend's meal to her because she wanted to relax in the spa before breakfast.
6.7 Good
Pros: The staff were very helpful and kind.
Cons: We chose this location for the outdoor garden. We were excited to sit and talk in the beautiful setting shown in the pictures. The garden was not accessible, no water, no Matt’s or chairs, or lighting. This was a big disappointment. We spent most of our time in our room.

It's near a lot of good places to eat as well as Donki and a DVD/book shop. The staff is very helpful and they understand English quite fine! Thank you so much for your service.
Cons: It was a little far from Isawa Onsen station--you'd need to spend around Y910-1000 for the taxi or take a 30-minute walk. It wasn't much of a disadvantage in general, but it might hurt a little if you're on a budget. Hotel-to-station shuttles may be a good addition in the future.

Cons: The hotel charged us the adult price instead of kids prices for the kids’s dinners even though I asked for 4 adult meals. I finally got them to change the fee at check out,but there should be a better way to book through booking.com to ensure that the dinner we are paying for is what we are getting. Very disappointing!
