This was a lovely place, a historic building nicely modernised into a luxury hotel. Our room (twin beds, as requested) was very comfortable, good beds and a bathroom with jacuzzi bath and shower spray. Breakfast was good. We used this hotel as a base for visiting Brussels, and thought it was a good alternative to bland business hotels in busy ultra-modern parts of Brussels. Leuven is pretty in parts (not many parts) but feels like an authentic town, and there is a good train service to Brussels, with cheap weekend tickets. We walked round the city (Brussels) on Saturday, and spent most of Sunday at the Musees Royaux des Beaux Arts, which must be one of Europe's most underrated art galleries. We were there for five hours, and did not see everything, in spite of not even going to the Magritte museum. Great stuff about Bruegel in the Old Masters section, and lots of impressionism and social realism in the "fin de siècle" section. The latter section has eight subterranean basements, so plenty to see.
It is hard to find anything not to like in this wonderful place, but the view from our window was less than excellent. The old brick monastery buildings have been tastefully restored, and we could see a garden with magnolia tree (in flower). Alas, just behind this view was a large, concrete slab of a tower block. Town planning (or lack of it) seems to be a problem in so many historic towns in Belgium and the Netherlands.
Clean and comfortable room. Excellent location, friendly staff. Convenient onsite parking.
Breakfast and parking are rather expensive.
Quiet but central location. Well restored room with high ceiling and old beams visible. Very clean. Even the fake fireplace was fitting. Very good breakfast.
