When I think of Penticton, I think of late summer road trips and fresh fruit – apples, peaches, apricots, and cherries. Penticton is situated in an area of British Columbia known as the Okanagan Valley, one of the top fruit-growing regions in Canada. When I was young, my grandma would head to Penticton to get fruit for canning, and sometimes I went along. Penticton is still known for fruit growing, but these days it’s mostly grapes. There are over 80 wineries within 20 minutes of the city and eight craft breweries. Situated between two lakes, you’ll find miles of sandy beaches and plenty of water-based activities. The nearby Kettle Valley Rail Trail is a fantastic area for cycling and hiking. There are plenty of things to do in this area and lots of great places to stay. Here’s my pick of the 10 best hotels in Penticton.

1.

Four Points by Sheraton Penticton at the Convention Centre

Address:

903 Vernon Avenue

Price:

C$ 145-C$ 416/night

One of the things I like best about this hotel is its location. It’s connected to the Penticton Trade and Convention Centre and across the street from the South Okanagan Events Centre, so this is one of the best hotels in Penticton if you’re attending a convention or event.

It’s also one of the newest hotels in Penticton. Opened in September 2023, the property has modern guestrooms and great amenities like a pool, gym and large rooftop patio with fantastic views of the city, the mountains and Okanagan Lake. There are water-view and city-view rooms available, while suites can hold up to five people.

The on-site restaurant, the Palmer Steakhouse Casual, has a great eggs Benedict breakfast menu, and the restaurant does bottomless Bennies on Saturday mornings.

2.

Lakeside Villa & Nordic Spa

Address:

4201 Skaha Lake Road

Price:

C$ 128-C$ 319/night

I love Nordic spas – especially after a long day of hiking, cycling or wine touring. This inn has its own cute on-site Nordic spa, a private beach and a barbecue and picnic area, making the Lakeside Villa Inn & Nordic Spa one of the best hotels in Penticton for amenities.

The hotel has a range of renovated suites with full kitchens or kitchenettes with a bar fridge, a coffee maker, and a microwave. The kitchen units also feature full-size appliances including a stove/oven and refrigerator. Guestrooms can accommodate up to four people and there are some pet-friendly rooms too.

When you want to venture off-site, Skaha Meadows Golf Course, Play Estate Winery and Barefoot Beach at Skaha Lake are all within walking distance of the property.

3.

Wesbert Winery & Guest Suites

Address:

1465 Naramata Rd

Price:

C$ 111-C$ 346/night

I love a room with a view and the three guestrooms at this award-winning winery have both lake views and vineyard views. From the balcony, you also get mountain views, so all the bases are covered. An amazing location surrounded by vineyards makes Wesbert Winery & Guest Suites one of the most unique hotels in Penticton and the surrounding area.

All the guestrooms have smart TVs, fridges and coffee makers and two of the rooms have shared kitchenette facilities. There’s also an on-site pizzeria. Guests can book in for wine tasting, an elevated experience that pairs food and wine, or just visit the pizzeria to enjoy pizzas, flatbreads and charcuterie boards served alongside fantastic wines.

The property is a 15-minute walk from Three Mile Point and Three Mile Clothing Optional Beach. It’s also close to the Kettle Valley Rail Trail and could make an overnight stop on a multi-day cycling itinerary.

4.

Balcomo, a Ramada by Wyndham

Address:

1050 Eckhardt Avenue West

Price:

C$ 133-C$ 506/night

Whether you’re travelling with kids or a fur baby, the Balcomo is one of the best hotels in Penticton for families. I love the large courtyard and the beautiful grounds, and the hotel has bocce ball, ladder ball, spikeball and a variety of other games that are fun for the whole family.

The property also has great amenities including a barbecue area, a seasonal outdoor pool with a great pool bar, year-round hot tubs, a fitness centre, a playground, and guest laundry facilities. You’ll also find a business centre and a good on-site restaurant.

The staff are exceptional and the service is another thing that makes this one of the best hotels in Penticton. Rooms have been recently renovated, and all come with fridges and coffee makers. Some also have fully equipped kitchens. Top tip for those with pets: OK Dog Park, a short drive from the Balcomo, has a dog beach.

5.

Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Penticton

Address:

602 Eckhardt Avenue West

Price:

C$ 147-C$ 738/night

I like the convenience of an included breakfast, and this hotel does it so well. It’s one of the best included buffet breakfasts in town, with a wide array of hot and cold items including waffles, pancakes, eggs, fruit, sausages or bacon, juice and coffee.

The other thing I like about this hotel is its location. It’s within walking distance of the Penticton Trade & Convention Centre, the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC), Cascades Casino and many great restaurants and attractions.

The property has an indoor pool and a hot tub, a fitness centre, and guest laundry. All rooms have mini-fridges and microwaves, and they’re spacious and modern.

6.

Kettle Valley Beach Resort

Address:

950 Lakeshore Drive West

Price:

C$ 93-C$ 684/night

I love the location of this boutique resort and the amenities that help you make the most of it. The property is just 400 metres from Okanagan Lake Beach, and it has an outdoor gathering area with a fire pit, picnic tables, barbecues and comfy outdoor seating.

The guestrooms have a laidback coastal vibe with wood floors, throw rugs and retro-style furnishings. All rooms have TVs and coffee makers, while some have kitchens or kitchenettes. There’s also one four-bedroom suite that can accommodate a large family or a small group.

With that huge four-bedroom suite and a great outdoor gathering area, this is one of the best hotels in Penticton – especially if you want to be close to the water. Insider tip: Salty’s Beach House, one of the best restaurants in Penticton, is a few doors down from the hotel.

7.

Casa Grande Inn

Address:

1070 Lakeshore Drive W.

Price:

C$ 179-C$ 511/night

Casa Grande Inn & Suites surprised me. You don’t expect to find Pueblo Revival/Santa Fe-style architecture in the Okanagan, but that’s exactly what you get here. It’s beautifully done with 20-foot ceilings, tall fireplaces, heated tile floors and gorgeous art.

Another thing that makes this property stand out is its location. It’s right across from Okanagan Beach and within walking distance of Penticton Trade and Convention Centre, the South Okanagan Events Centre (SOEC) and the Penticton Memorial Arena.

The Casa has six guestrooms as well as a four-bedroom vacation home. Each room is unique and has its a TV, mini-fridge and ensuite bathroom, and most have patios with lake or mountain views. Guests can store bikes, kayaks or other equipment in the B&B’s garage for added convenience.

8.

Naramata Inn

Address:

3625 1 Street

Price:

C$ 292-C$ 574/night

I love a historical property and it’s even better if it has great food. This 12-room inn was built in 1908 by John Moore Robinson as his family home. Today, it’s a wonderful restaurant with rooms – one of the best hotels in Penticton and the surrounding area for foodies.

Each of the mission-style rooms has direct access to a veranda with spectacular views of the lake and the surrounding hills. Though the rooms have been modernized, they’ve retained their original charm with antique furnishings and clawfoot or deep soaking bathtubs. Every stay includes a simple home-style breakfast with scones, croissants, homemade granola, yogurt and house-made jams and jellies.

If you’re staying at the inn, make a reservation in advance for dinner at the fine dining restaurant. The chef’s tasting menu changes daily, based on the local ingredients available, and dishes are paired with local wines.

9.

St Andrews By The Lake Golf Resort

Address:

111 St. Andrews Drive

Price:

C$ 167-C$ 183/night

It’s not every day you find a golf course clubhouse that’s also a B&B. St. Andrews By The Lake Golf Resort is one of the best hotels to stay in Penticton and the surrounding area. It’s located about a 20-minute drive southwest of the city in nearby Kaleden.

One of the things I like best about this property is the great amenities – especially if you’re travelling from May through October when the golf course and restaurant are open. There’s a nine-hole golf course, an outdoor heated swimming pool, a restaurant, a library, a shared barbecue, horseshoe pits, and a fitness room on-site.

There are five guestrooms on the lower level of the clubhouse, each with a private bathroom, TV, mini-fridge and coffee maker. From May through October only, you can also rent a more spacious one-bedroom suite with a fully equipped kitchen and a separate living room.

10.

The Inn at Therapy Vineyards

Address:

Naramata, V0H 1N0

Price:

C$ 316-C$ 553/night

I’ve always believed that staying in a vineyard can be a therapeutic experience. I suppose that’s why the owners of this place put “therapy” right in the name. Guests who stay in one of the inn’s five rooms enjoy sunset views over the lake and vineyards and wake to a delicious homemade breakfast served in the Therapy Lounge.

Then there’s the wine. Inn guests can enjoy beautiful views from the deck or hot tub with a glass of vino. They can also arrange to experience a wine tasting and enjoy the elegant yet approachable wines produced in the vineyard, making this one of the best hotels in Penticton and the surrounding area for wine lovers.

All the guestrooms have fireplaces, lovely spa-like bathrooms, TVs, and a private deck or patio. Waffle kimono robes and other little touches are all part of the therapy.
